O'Bryan McCoy Burnette Jr. , better known as a R&B balladeer O’Bryan, was born in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina but currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri. As quiet as it is kept, the 80s balladeer has new quiet storm type music and it seems the world is missing out.
The days of creating songs like this are over. The industry has sold their souls to eliminate GROUPS,BANDS,REAL VOICES, LOVE,CREATIVITY, & meaningful lyrics. It's all about the quick dollar, fuck talent. That's why i will never spend a dime on any of this 2000's garbage..rap,pop, R&B, ect. there's a few really good ones out there, but 85% of it is just redundant garbage about bitches,ho's,money, cars, bling, houses, drank, guns, beef, sex ect.. give me back the 60's,70's,80's,mid 90's.
This song is a time capsule in and of itself. When it was cool to serenade a woman, brothers were writing songs like this to extoll the power of love. Give me this stuff any day over today's so-called music. Wow...!!!
O'Bryan put a lot of pimpin in the way he remade this song.Stevie's original version has a classic sound you can hear the difference between his version and O'Bryan's version.
I was a hapless romantic back in the day when O'Bryan came on the scene. I still have this album and I remember playing this song over and over just waiting for that special person to come my way so that I could sing it to her. Guys like O'Bryan, Peabo and Luther and their love songs will always have a special place in my life.
Does anyone know about "romancing" anymore? Take your time to get in one another's head before you get in the bed. Ladies make the guys (work) to get you, stop being so damn easy to go to bed. You say you love someone, no you lust that individual. True, genuine, heartfelt love is sacrificial, enduring, overcoming all the adversities that come with a "true relationship. Anyone can f---. Maybe that's why males call themselves "dog" today, and females call themselves "b----". How sad, learn romance!
@truth1disciple oh my God, will you marry me???? I'm playing, but soooo agree with you, my former guy, just didn't get it when it came to romance, and thought it was silly. I wanted to go to plays, opera, dancing, watch sunsets, so needless to say it didn't last, why would it....thanks for making my day. Lady L.
this is what you call Real music....Gone are the days of true music about Real love that you felt when you Heard it......Thank God for old cds ........These days that's all I play.....I love this song...thank you for posting it..........Good memories....
@logtype47 oh man, U tellin the truth!!! KACE the only real black station we had. Now we as blacks in L.A. have no legitimate black station Because 92.3 is not a black station, and KJLH is confused they play church music at the same time they play R&B. I have nothing against church music, but didnt GOD and JESUS say dont mix the Two?
@77757891 No doubt. I feel you on that one. We are starved for smooth R&B here in Los Angeles. Something about the LA market has been for the past 15 years. Maybe it's industry pressure to push top 40.
The only time I get a chance to here good music is when I visit chocolate cities like Chicago, and DC.
@77757891 On the gospel comment, I've been caught a few times "ENJOYING" a late evening with a lady friend, when the KJLH playlist switch from Slow Jams to Gospel. Needless to say, it makes you feel a bit guilty the next day. I wasn't too cool with that.
Love songs were mostly phased out in the early nineties, having been replaced with sex songs. This led to the rapid decline of morality on earth until... Oh sorry. The web has brought back the music so the next generation can learn from the mistakes of the past. Long Live Real Love Songs.LX
How could I ever forget this song?? Someone told me it was boring when I played it...probably an aquarius lol.....but no......I just sit back, and let the music unfold, as I touch and explore different emotions and experiences....some from my past, and some I wish to feel....it's a beautiful song by all measures.........I actually started singing it out loud in my school library with my headphones plugged into it, hahahah...thank god i can sing tho lol
Songs like this should be a requirement for men to hear before asking a woman to court... so we as men can grasp a concept of romance not just for her but for our selves....
Men (excluding myself) need to get back to loving our women like this. Passion has been pushed to the backburner in favor of chest-pounding, male bravado. Will the real men please stand up and infuse passion, desire, true love, and romance back into our women's lives???? They deserve every tender, heart-felt drop of it!!!
O'Bryan sang when music was real...there was a romance to it that could melt you heart and ease your fears...God, I miss O'Bryan!!! My older brother--7yrs my senior--turned me on to O'Bryan back in the day...and I have loved him ever since. There is something in the sound of his voice that made love alright...Come back and do your thing...it's been FAR TOO LONG!!!
@rperry1908 ITA with you, this is REAL music right here! These days it's all about booty popping and licking somebody up and down making her his bust it baby! WTH and the women or little girls get excited over that crap like it;s cute. I'm only 36yrs old but give me some good ole slow jams from back in the day anytime!
@cassieann1000 Are you aware that there is new O'Bryan music that you can listen to as much as you like on his myspace music page? (myspace.com/obryanmedia)He's posted all the songs in full length versions and recently posted a duet with Sue Ann Carwell titled "One More Try"...He also sends his love to you and your daughter and is very grateful for you taking the time to express your thoughts for him. @obryanation Obryan, where are you? and why in the world did you stop singing songs like this, are you somewhere in the UK? Please come back. Do you realize how much we miss you and how dynamic and beautiful your voice is I listen to this and it sounds better now than it did then. My daughter got it on a card for me for my B'day. It brings back beautiful memories. We miss you and we love you. It's been too many years, please record again.
Not sound like copy cat but yes GOD bless us in our 30's we did have good meaningful music that took back to a place in time in your thoughts where that person or place was special. Vesta Williams dont forget her and the Valentine Bros i wish i had a time machine....
This jam right here can be used for multiple purposes. This will definitely touch a real woman's heart not these fake hair and nails chicks that are roaming around today.
I first heard this song in '02 on WHUR when I graduated from college and moved to MD for my first job I was like WOW this song is so beautiful I've always liked the oldies
@RavenTheePrincess What's also amazing is this song was 19yrs old when you first heard it & it still sounded just as beautiful then as when it was first released. This song has proven that great songs & music always stand the test of time.
MAN, WATCH'OUT IM BOUT TO BUSS A MOVE.......DANG I CANT, CAUSE I LOST MY BABY....... I MISS HER SOOO MUCH...........WISH I COULD CALL HER, SEE HER.........IT HURT SO BAD...... SHE LOVED THIS SONG......AND I LOVED HER SINCE SECOND GRADE
this is one of the songs that you remember exactly where you were when you first heard it!!....High School, Senior Year...got my folks car..heading down to the park with my lady...when life was so simple...love it!!
Wow! I'm so glad I finally found out who sang the song You and I because I have always loved this mans voice. And I'm so glad I'm starting to find more of his music because this is one of my new favorite songs now. I really wish radio and BET would start playingmusic like this again :(
@ChevyBoy211 I am 27 too and feel the same way. I am waiting for the day that I can meet a guy and hear this song playing in the background when we lock eyes. LOL
@dlmst1 I wanted to make a comment very similar to yours but I didn't want 2 sound like a loser LOL Glad someone feels the same thing I feel when I hear this song... I can't wait for a dude to feel this way about me :0) LOL
Oh God! Back in the day Wayne wilson, sung this song to me in St. Louis! I think about him when I hear this song!!! (If I had it to do over again, I would have dated him!) He was a really nice guy!
I loved this song before I knew who song it. My friend gave me a cd and this song and "You and I" was on there before then I think I heard this song only once before. I just fell in love with this song.
@detphemale Chivalry is dead................and women killed him.
The 80's came....and then the 90's....up until now...
Girls got turned out on the "thug loving".Females are mommy and daddy...STRONG & independent.
So strong, in fact, a man has to appear super, ultra masculine to even seem like a "real man" to her.
But, of course, that's all on the surface. An ideology/selfish concept in their mind that they try to force into reality, but end of destroying their lives in pursuit of the illusion
@DirtyFaceCapon3 Chivalry is not dead...he's sitting right next to me and doing fine! You are absolutely correct about some women, though. The times have caused some to have to take of roles that we are not naturally supposed to be in. Not blaming any ONE, because it took both sexes to get to where we are today. Women have to simply recognize Chivalry when they see it, and appreciate it.
@detphemale It's nice to meet a wise, classy lady such as yourself.....But hell would freeze over before the girls of generation recognize chivalry. They literally have an allergic reaction to it.It repels them. They grew up idolizing playas, pimps, thugs, gangbangers, and rappers. We always here about how those images affect boys, but it had a similar, maybe even worst, affect on girls. They started to desire those type of men.Somehow it became cook.I know why, but i'd be here all day.Peace & blessings
With a groove like this,U can't help but love it,Dam! this song made me love all the girls then,ok,I was a ho' back then..... but I settle down and found that 1 and now all that love energy this song brings out goes to the love of my life-yeah my Queen! That 1!(20yrs and still counting)
Y'all remember back in the day when you went to a club and the DJ would break it down to a slow song set? Better yet, some clubs had a separate slow dance room! This jam would come on, EWF, Confunkshun...I could go on for days. Hope we can get back to puttin' true romance in music. Thank God for Maxwell.
To be honest and a lot of people say that a song is their favorite song...but FORREAL this REALLY I MEAN REALLY is my FAVORITE SONG. I put this song on every slow CD I make REAL TALK....this shit makes women get NAKED....Church
I am an 80's baby (25) There would be nothing more that I would love to do but hold a special lady while listening to this. Music these days suck big time.
@esmooth100 being that u r 25 just to let u know that you are a product of this song,it was poppin on the airwaves at that time, summer of 84 to be exact,u should be proud!!
I hear all of y'all. Born in '67 from Toledo, OH and grew up with this music. These kids can't even sing anymore with out computers changing their voice. Who's writing these songs today? Straight sorry!
i'm 43 born in 66 in houston texas. man u just don't find groups like this anymore. what happened 2 slow jams? dressing nice, well groomed, smelling good n respecting the ladies. i'm old school bra. now it's a bunch of thugs who destroy clubs n peoples lifes. what a bunch of losers. i'm so glad i was born n raised in texas on great music. silk,prince,r.f.t.w.,isley's,teddy p.,the time, dreamboy, marvin gaye, one way, roger,al green, bobby womack, troop, guy, commodores, micheal jackson ect. i miss it
Listen str8outtatexas1 I'm feeling you from way up here in The "D" Motown. I'm glad I was brought up listening to hometown music as well. From the looks of your list of artist, it appears that you enjoyed Motown stuff as well. Well good music is good music and I love Texas too.Dallas my family origin and roots.
These young breeds of today need lessons for sure, don't make real love songs like this anymore. I was in high school when this came out and man o man those were the days.
But because of people like you, some of us young folk were raised on good love songs like this. And for that, me being young myself, I give you much respect. Otherwise I'd be one of those knuckleheads listening to bubblegum pop music, trying to keep up with the Joneses.
That's interesting because I read in the liner notes of this greatest hits compilation that back then people compared O'Bryan to Prince!? As a teenager I NEVER thought to compare these two talented artists. Also, at the first Soul Train Music Awards in Santa Monica California, in1986 I was blessed to meet and shake O'Bryan's hand. He was one of many luminaries but his facial appearance seemed disappointing - like. Little does he know the impact that he has had on millions of people globally!
This was high school! I remember Mike from Rare Essence used to sing the shit out of this! Now for singing we have T-pain! Ha Ha, these young heads dont know how much they missed.....Go-Go foreva!!!!
I know ...this one is deep....they dont make'm like this anymore....And the question is...?????Do the Today's Man have Love like this anymore?(no matter what age)...this a deep song...i can listen to this forever.
Wow....this songs brings back so many memories ......I remember when I used to wait for the "Quiet Storm" to come on at night on the radio, and I would put a fresh cassette in my boom box waiting to record this

Wow! I'm so glad I finally found out who sang the song You and I because I have always loved this mans voice. And I'm so glad I'm starting to find more of his music because this is one of my new favorite songs now. I really wish radio and BET would start playingmusic like this again :(

DirtyFaceCapon3 10 months ago
@DirtyFaceCapon3 Chivalry is not dead...he's sitting right next to me and doing fine! You are absolutely correct about some women, though. The times have caused some to have to take of roles that we are not naturally supposed to be in. Not blaming any ONE, because it took both sexes to get to where we are today. Women have to simply recognize Chivalry when they see it, and appreciate it.
detphemale 10 months ago 2
@detphemale It's nice to meet a wise, classy lady such as yourself.....But hell would freeze over before the girls of generation recognize chivalry. They literally have an allergic reaction to it.It repels them. They grew up idolizing playas, pimps, thugs, gangbangers, and rappers. We always here about how those images affect boys, but it had a similar, maybe even worst, affect on girls. They started to desire those type of men.Somehow it became cook.I know why, but i'd be here all day.Peace & blessings

These young breeds of today need lessons for sure, don't make real love songs like this anymore. I was in high school when this came out and man o man those were the days.
eyeluvrob 2 years ago
But because of people like you, some of us young folk were raised on good love songs like this. And for that, me being young myself, I give you much respect. Otherwise I'd be one of those knuckleheads listening to bubblegum pop music, trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Because of Prince, O'Bryan was a VERY under-rated artist.
sdrob40 2 years ago 2
That's interesting because I read in the liner notes of this greatest hits compilation that back then people compared O'Bryan to Prince!? As a teenager I NEVER thought to compare these two talented artists. Also, at the first Soul Train Music Awards in Santa Monica California, in1986 I was blessed to meet and shake O'Bryan's hand. He was one of many luminaries but his facial appearance seemed disappointing - like. Little does he know the impact that he has had on millions of people globally!
