  • this is awesome. i will cover this in my next video :D

  • If everyone could play like this...then it would not be so amazing. Some people

are just destined to be awesome at their craft...Tommy is there. It brings him joy to make us happy. So the circle is complete. I hope you didn't burn your guitar!

  • Fairplay to anyone contemplating learning this bloke's stuff, i'm about ready to burn my guitar, then again some say you have to have goals (give me some easier ones please)! !

  • @junksleeper bad news....this is probably his easiest...for me anyway....

  • i saw tommy emmanuel live before i even knew who he was at sum private gig lol! I fell in love with his playing as soon as I heard this piece, tho. I have to learn it - if i cud just dig out that copy of Guitarist magazine...

    Jo

  • The April 2007 copy of GUITAR ONE magizine has the tab for Antonella's Birthday if you can find a back copy.

  • when i first heard this i had to learn it man!! so i tryed using his tuning technique and wrote a song with it, check it out on me profile ;)

  • This song truly shows what a virtuoso Tommy is. Fantastic!

  • Beautiful.

  • Anyone know where i can get the tab for this song?

  • it was in this month's guitar one mag

  • It tuned DGDGBE capo second fret i bet my guitar on it!

  • looks like you lost a guitar :-) Tommy doesn't work in non-standard tunings, at all. Only drop-D sometimes

  • Your so wrong, he never CHANGES guitar tuning, he always keeps his JUMBO in DGDGBE capo second fret. Every song he plays on that guitar is in DGDGBE, So Tall fidler, cowboys dream, mystery (capo 4th fret) are all tuned that way.

Tommy doesn't like changing tuning on his mouse so he uses his jumbo. I can play some of that song and its tuned that way. (he always keeps a capo on the second fret of the jumbo guitar also)

I guess i can keep my guitar..

  • Who's correct on the tuning issue? I'd sure like to know ... : )

  • Basically: Jumbo is tuned DGDGBE Mouse (smaller one) Standard

He is using his Jumbo so this is tuned DGDGBE with capo second fret

Sorry if my last post was confusing!

  • Pkw101 is correct on the tuning

The June 2007 (issue 290) issue of Guitarist magazine includes a dvd with him performing and teaching the viewer how to play Antonella's Birthday

Tabs are also included as well for those of you who are curious as to how to play this song although I did find a pretty accurate tab on the net too

  • i can play this song, its DGDGBE capo on the 2nd fret. sorry :)

same tunning as tall fidler because i always play tall fiddler after playing antonellas birthday.

i normally then tune back up to standard tunning still in second fret and play lewis and clark :)

  • I'd love to hear your version. Post up!

  • will be eventually, i have about 20 tommy songs or so i wanna record. but i have university to think about right now with exams and so on . but yeah soon!

  • when he was on woodsongs, he said his mind didn't work in altered tunings, only standard, but that was a few years ago (not sure when exactly) and since then he's experimented in other tunings

  • You're completely wrong, he also uses the DADGAD tuning sometimes, and his Initiation guitar (the cutaway) is standard tuned in Cis!

  • Would anyone have any thoughts on what tuning he is using for this piece?

  • standard tuning with a capo

  • thanks, that's what I was thinking, based on the harmonics he plays at the beginning of the melody.

  • is it the ebg808Te?

  • Does any one now what the guitar he is playing here is? I know its a Maton but what make?

  • Technically incredible. So many difficult techniques played so subtley and cleanly, its inspiring. Fantastic guitarist!!

  • awesome guy, what a feeling...

  • he's so amazing....

  • i play guitar for more than 30 years and i still can't play a whole song perfect. i never saw tom making one mistake.

  • That's right! hummm... In fact, I saw one very small mistake just one time, but it was very small...

    He's the acoustic god I believe !

  • stage performance is what catch peoples' eyes. he gives it all. if you have seen him do the percussion for Mombasa or his performance of Initiation, then you will know what I speak of.

  • the greatest thing about Tommy is not his technique (though they're among the, if not the best); the greatest thing about him is his musicality. just amazing.

  • you said it best, the honesty shines thru every note. Makes you feel humble to sit in the light of it!

  • That must have been something to see live. This is as close as i can get. Keep 'em coming.

  • he's not bad but i dont think he's all that special.

  • I suppose you think Malmstein is better or something crazy like that :-)

  • ^^^^ both are great in their own regard...... but "not all that special," lets be serious for a minute...

  • All Malmstein does is just pound out notes on the electric guitar without any technique or finesse. This guy is much better!!

  • Are you kidding? Have you heard any more of his music than this?

  • Chet said that he was probably the best player on the planet. I agree with Chet wholeheartedly.

  • Then obviously, it looks like you haven't seen much of his material. Try out the video of him playing classical gas.

  • Wow...i love this song. The best version I've ever heard. So effortless.

  • they just get better and better, amazing!

  • So beautiful...

  • Wow, he can write and play. I love all the new songs I have heard of the new 'Mystery' album

  • Great Video, keep them commin, Tommy just gets better and better
