As for Satie, he gave many of his compositions ironic titles or instructions to the player. It was backlash to what he thought of as the pretension of the programmatic music of the time.

All in all, I love the comments on here. It's fun to separate out the music people from the non-music types. Comments on Pachelbel's Cannon in D are my fave.

@jamesrav I don't think Satie himself did much in the way of explaining. Les Six wrote more about music than Satie did, but they were all more about writing moving music than talking about it. I think "less talking, more doing" could have been one of their philosophies, but 20th century. music history was I while ago and I've switched majors since then. A few times. I think it's the listeners' interpretations are more important..

''γυμνο'' ''gymno'' which means naked, and ''παιδεια'' ''pedia'' which comes from the word ''παιδι'' ''pedi'' which means child.

An interpretation could be nakedness of children, or the naked education(which is a bit weird)
