  • i wish love was really like this..

  • A very touching video, and great piece of music. Liked!*

  • So beautiful.. makes you clear your mind and relax.

  • White sox lol

  • this is me....this video represents myself, who I am........ romanticism, poetry, nature, rainy and cold days..........art.... this is me

  • bien me gusta eric satie

  • shut up, you're ruining the song.

  • Minecraft song, Yeah! Epicness!!!

  • I'm calm. Just giving my opinion. geez.

  • Well, my grave has been marked this week, and there are some things I wanted to tell you before I leave:

Yes, at times I could hear your thoughts...

Yes, at times I could feel your sensations...

Yes, Kim, I know your secret because it is my secret too...

I will gladly let it pass with me, but I wanted you to know that it would have been returned a hundred fold, humbly, and without question. I guess this is the only way I could tell you.

Kim, I wish you the best...

  • Das schönste Lied! :)

  • .....sublime...............................

  • You're right. That is beautiful.

Now just replace the two with Flint and Hinawa. :D. (Anyone who's played Mother 3 would know why)

  • how do you pronounce this with a french accent?

  • @yellowman88 Geem-noh-peh-dee

  • o:32 - 0:38 = JACK THE RIPPER!

  • Saddest shit ever.

  • The person who made this must be really heartbroken.

  • anachronistic camera and dodgy white socks notwithstanding, this is almost a thing of beauty, White socks...

  • The only flaw is that the camera in the video is not from the time period. It is obvious you are trying to make this a period piece by looking at the costumes. You should have either left the camera part out or found one that suited the era you were trying to capture.

  • @madambathory calm down

  • ありがとう

  • BravO bravO......+hanK yoU, FashionistO montrosE

  • I love Satie. And I know what Gymnopedie actually means. THAT's the video I'd like to see. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Juliamm77 You know what this song means? Is there any indication Satie explained what he was trying to convey? I have my opinion, but have yet to see a comment that touches on the potential meaning of the song.

  • @jamesrav Gymnopedie means "naked young boys at play." I'm thinking Taylor Lautner young, myself, if someone wants to make the video. Over 18, please.

As for Satie, he gave many of his compositions ironic titles or instructions to the player. It was backlash to what he thought of as the pretension of the programmatic music of the time.

All in all, I love the comments on here. It's fun to separate out the music people from the non-music types. Comments on Pachelbel's Cannon in D are my fave.

  • @Juliamm77 I knew that definition, I'm interested in what people believe these 3:37 seconds (in my favorite rendition) are meant to represent. People are usually so moved by it, but don't explain why.

  • @jamesrav I don't think Satie himself did much in the way of explaining. Les Six wrote more about music than Satie did, but they were all more about writing moving music than talking about it. I think "less talking, more doing" could have been one of their philosophies, but 20th century. music history was I while ago and I've switched majors since then. A few times. I think it's the listeners' interpretations are more important..

  • made me cry

  • did Satie also make Wikipedia No. 1 ? ;-)

  • @AnOm75 very funny, except not

  • @AnOm75 no. but i think he was involved in "gymkhana 3"...you can still find it on youtube...

  • dumbass video but amazing music.

  • whats the movie in the vid?

  • Beautiful song, cute video. Ignore the commercial & negative comments. Satie's music is very tranquil, and mesmerizing, often uplifting...

  • best music ever

  • she definitely saw the bouquet behind his back...

  • really dug the video and the shots used, very cool idea.. thanks for sharing!

  • Beautiful video, thank you for sharing!

  • The buzzing noise is coming from a Canon 5d mark II or similar DSLR Camera, I have that camera and the image stabilizer makes that noise.

  • REALLY sweet video . Please enter this for a competition...

Just out of interest - did you do the video and then find a soundtrack or did you always have this piece in mind whilst creating the video?

    Penelope

  • Mother 3. Ahem. Mother 3. Ahem.

  • the girl must be off doing something amazing for him..

  • Such a Wonderfully Romantic and Lonely Composition.

  • hydfawr: you are my brother.

  • hydfawr: you are my brother.

  • :51

    I will stab you.

  • @drummr4JC haha good one!!

JFMP. OK.

  • Tripping intensely on LSD in an empty room, shuffling a deck of cards while looking out of the window at many people flying kites one Autumn sunday morning many years ago, with this piece of music helping me along. Wonderful stuff.

  • The umbrella floating in the pond and the windmill........poetry. The hissing sound was distracting.

  • is there a higher quality version of this video?

  • i really like this video ^_^ i think it'll help me put more emotion into the song when i play it

  • well you're all kind of full shit for debating what you're debating. there's no image or set of images that is inherently "wrong" for a video, no music that is inherently "bad" for soundtrack, etc. the funniest thing is that you all obviously have no familiarity with Satie the man, his sense of humor, views on art, etc.

  • is that so... then answer me this... what is your inspiration for your music, why do you do it in the first place... because if you're doing it for money... immedietly, you're doing it for the wrong reason, and i could care less for the feelings of souljah boy, he is a rapper whose in music for the wrong reason... people whose values live in money... your comments are irrelevant, for a real musician does not value money, music is a message of the people... p.s. i'm a musician as well...

  • fantastic. Bravooo

  • Most people view this for the song - the video sucks

  • me gusta

  • Why did he do that card trick. It doesn't fit. This song really doesn't fit with a music video. Maybe just some simple pictures would be better.

  • Worst Videoooooooooooo!!!

  • Nice Videoooooooo!!!

  • @cannedkitty, what the bloody hell are you thinking...defiling such a beautiful song such as this...with the pathetic lyrics of some stupid rapper! a song such as this doesn;t deserve to be downgraded into the musical bullshit that is today's sociey, people like you don't know how to appreciate beautiful music like this... i pity you...

  • @DraKoXVII

You can't claim that to be a fact because other people think its great. and getting down to it, i am offended by your statement. You see, i am rapper, So your saying rap is bullshit offends me. Honestly speaking this could be a great rap instrumental. i am sure Soulja Boi wouldnt like you calling him stupid, seeing as he is a millionaire and a fabulous artist. and obviously we do appreciate this or we wouldn;t be listening to this piece.

  • @DraKoXVII

"with the pathetic lyrics of some stupid rapper! a song such as this doesn;t deserve to be downgraded into the musical bullshit that is today's sociey," You amuse me. You are full of ignorance. i pity you.

  • i want soulja boy to rap over this

  • @cannedkitty don't listen to the small minded bitches who say that this wouldnt be a good rap or hip hop instrumental. music can't be defined by one way of playing a song. they are ignorant. This would be a good instrumental

  • Why did the lady use an umbrella instead of a parasol? Expecting showers?

  • hermosa melodia

  • Very nice!

  • gymnopedie means naked promenade

  • I have a physical reaction to this music. It possesses me.

  • Beautiful music, and beautiful video, but the video make me depressed so much I've lost vitality for the rest of day...fuck ;(

  • He entered a time-machine and stole this song from the future. Plaigurist! lol

  • Hi ! a new remix of Erik Satie Gymnopedie No1 to discover on the Direct2Dreams YouTube Page :-)) (Tape Direct2Dreams on YouTube to discover it !)

  • @Relaxationn Seriously what the fuck

  • Unbelievable. Remarkable. This is musique.

  • So beautiful...

  • très jolie sehr shon very good Bravo!!

  • This is really moving. :)

  • this is very lovely.... its so pure and beautiful and it gives you hope that it will resolve with a sunray kind of thing but.... the chords switch from that wistful major to darkness. the video goes wonderfully with the mood the tune creates.

  • This makes me want to watch the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya again...

  • @OfNaught

The bluray was just released, watched it for the first time the other day. Go download it if you haven't already. It's beautiful. I wasn't about to watch the camrip.

  • Satie wrote in the performence directions: "lent et douleureux"

  • @HKGleclercq yeah, i'm really curious as to why he would want it to be played "with pain". maybe this piece holds some significance to him.

  • @AkoolStick Whati s even funnier is that he dedicated this song to Mademoiselle Jeanne de Bret. I "wikipediaed" her but found nothing. Weird :D

  • gymnopedia comes from the Greek word ''γυμνοπαιδεια'' which consists of the words

''γυμνο'' ''gymno'' which means naked, and ''παιδεια'' ''pedia'' which comes from the word ''παιδι'' ''pedi'' which means child.

An interpretation could be nakedness of children, or the naked education(which is a bit weird)

  • @khetnhio It's simply a danse from young people in ancient sparta. Satie was fond of ancient greek civilisation. "Gnossiennes" is also from a greek word (either gnos or knossos).

  • Anyone else hear that buzzing noise?

  • @MrCoolManTim

Sounds like the buzzing from a snare drum

  • Wow, beautiful

  • Very nice, I get the message, and have lived through that, so amazing how you told the story, a very beautiful and emotion filled piece, thanks!

  • as i listen to this wonderful piece, i feel something that cannot be describe with words alone.i make me realize about things that i cannot understand.its the feeling of sadness in the atmosphere and the melody makes me want to hear this piece again and again...for many times.....until i fell to a deep deep sleep................

it the best when you listen to this before you sleep or before you die ;)

  • EL VIDEO NO TIENE QUE VER CON LA MUSICA,

    PERO AUN ASI ESTA CHIDO

  • Suena como a Manet , Singer Sargent y Barthold Jongkind... suenan a luz

Sounds like Manet , Singer Sargent and Barthold Jongkind... sounds like light

... pero no hay colores en el video... es uan lastima, pero buena trama.

  • Te llega al corazón.

  • Goeie muiziek Luister maar!!

  • personally im not the biggest fan of classical but no other song that i have ever heard has touched me the way this song it can be happy and said it can make you cry and it can make you laugh this gut really new what he was doing....

  • I see the message you were trying to give cause i thought of the same thing. Your video could have been better though. God job however.

  • Could be :D beautiful video!

  • This is what Trent Reznor wishes he could do.

  • @ANONONTHEJEWTUBE oh snap... i agree

  • love the 80's music

Dvorak + Satie = real music

  • wtf video:O

  • this takes a long time to load

  • Superb piece of music, fantastic video. Reflecting my life at the moment.......

  • sorry the video is pretty crap

  • Melody very wonderful video epic bad

  • one of my favourite songs

  • the 'theme song' of princess Krahe in princess tutu... i love this song.

  • this song is breath taking....almost hard to describe in words

  • I have heard this somewhere before! Like a Zelda game or something but this is way better! I wish more people in the world enjoyed this style of music instead of rap because maybe that would influence much of the general populations passion for true beauty.

  • @FliBsiness The start of this song is very similar to the opening theme for Ocarina of Time. The theme that plays when you see Link riding Epona across Hyrule Field at night.

  • The most romantic melody of all the seasons

  • Love!

  • @bullock23 Of course...

  • So far this is the best version of the song... reminds me of Guanajuato... don't you Glory?

  • So far, this is the best version I have heard... reminds me Guanajuato, dont you Glory?

  • anyone know any other good songs with this mood/tone?

  • @cowsandcavys Try "Spiegel Im Spiegel" by Arvo Part, an Estonian composer. A more beautiful piece of music you shall not find. Good luck.

  • @eimajecnerwal great suggestion, thank you so much

  • I like it ^ ^

  • Vous fait vraiment penser, une telle belle chanson. Il fait vouloir vous pleurer et sourire en même temps.

  • Beautiful piece of music!!!

  • why the most romantic people is most lonely....?

  • @ilikeyouallot who knows...

  • @ilikeyouallot Us romantic people have to be lonely to remain romantic =)

  • i like it.

  • How do you pronounce his last name? "SATI" or "SATI-É" or something else?

  • @LogInAnders

    just "sati".

  • song is beautiful, video is gay (:

  • Tellement clair et limpide. Tellement étrange et onirique. Tellement doux et exquis.

Tel est son compositeur, Erik Satie =)

  • the reality of many good romantic men..... mostly ideal love. women are not into that. love for them means material. you denial love women, not to blame, it is simple many factor influence for your insecurities. but simple things in life are better. simplify your lives..... love. somewhere perhaps.....

  • melancholy but in a tranquil and calming way

  • I remember driving in Paris in the rain one morning, this song came on and I had a desperate need to talk to my mother who loves classical music. It brought me to tears. Simple yet incredibly moving, this song is very touching

  • woooww beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This tune almost brings a tear to my eye

  • Made my heart.....

    Only heart can do this..

  • I can never listen to this song and think to myself what it's about. I have no idea why! At some points it makes me think of a sad love, then pure serenity and then a passion for something. This song is good for the soul and I can always always fall asleep to it and let my mind wonder in it's brilliance and emtional melody! Love it to bits, would love to pass away listening it this... not trying to be depressing but it's just so calming =D xoxoxox

  • @TheEverfade you hit the nail on the head with "sad love", and this video portrays something I have experienced in real life, and before I ever saw this video that is what itreminded me of,,, like you say not rying to be depressing but I alrady am becasue I lost my Sunshine girl, most likely for ever.

  • @TheEverfade You got it right, Everfade. It's whatever You want it to be.

  • @TheEverfade Actually, Eric Satie "composed his music for Furniture". Weird, yes, but I think his music wasn't meant to instill meaning, rather give a feeling of tranquility.

  • @SilverSodaCan And it does just that =]

  • @TheEverfade I agree. There's no better way to dwell on your life's pictures than with this song.

  • @TheMagicalMadrigal

So, could you explain him to me please? =]

  • It's clear that the person who made this video doesn't get Satie at all.

  • i think the one that doesnt get satie at all is you, because the song wasnt intended to have one only meaning but a series of meanings and each person can interpret the song however they want to

  • @Borjagonzalo123 I agree; my comment may have been a little harsh and made when my mood was not so good.

  • @TheMagicalMadrigal its really honorable to apologize and i understand that anyone can have a bad day

    luck in future

  • i agree brynolfbrynja.

  • The Ridiculous, and meaningless, Interactions between Man and Woman shouldn´t stain, and pollute, this magical piece of music.

  • You needn't watch the video!

  • @brynolfbrynja Do you not think that the motives for those 'ridiculous meaningless interactions between man and woman' give breath into this song?

Music like this is a mirror of our deepest emotions; it's what gives it it's power. Tell me something more moving than love or love lost, regardless of what it's object is.

  • @brynolfbrynja I can't agree with you. I don't know what your views on love relationships are, but as a composer myself, I know that personal life is the main influence on such music. Satie was a loner all his life and despite his asexuality he almost certainly longed for a companion.

  • @Sunchild333 He did have a girlfriend briefly: Suzanne Valadon.

  • I reckon Satie was three generations ahead of his time with this piece . . . like finding an eight-track player in a Model T.

  • I cant explain why.. For some reason this video seems a little creepy to me, love the song though.
