  • very good vid mate cause of this i got an 77% on my exam i didnt go to school for 2 years and this vid helped me get into college i thank you very much. i dosed around in school but this vid saved my future thanks again im going to start revising now ;D

  • This is HORRIBLE! This way takes way toooo loooong!

    Besides, this video doesn't explain how to apply this method with something like

    LiOH + H2(SO4) = H2O + Li2(SO4)

    there is a hydroxide on the left but none on the right....so now what???? you can't draw that stupid line!

  • @SlapMarket First off, BE NICE, especially when your comment makes you look like a fool considering that the example you typed here is exactly like the first example in this video, but you are NOT paying attention to detail. You have hydroxide on BOTH sides. H2O = H(OH)!!!

    Let's say we didn't have OH on both sides, you still draw that "stupid line" (as you called it) but you separate the OH into H's and O's.

  • @lilmissmuah As a matter of fact I was balancing the polyatomic OH first which as a result also increased my number of H's. SO4 is not the only polyatomic in this question. Hope this cleared things up for you.

  • @photoxloan First off, when balancing combustion reactions, balance the C's and H's first. Leave the O's for last.If you can do that, you will get an odd number of O's on the products side. The coefficients will work out to 1 + 4 --> 3 + 3

  • @photoxloan It depends on the question. If you have 3 molecules on one side and 2 on the other, both of those numbers are multiples of 6. So on the side of the 3 you'd multiply it by 2 and on the side of the 2 you'd multiply it by 3. I hope that explained it. It's tough without an actual question to refer to. Look at my video on synthesis and decomposition, I have a couple of questions that balance out like the one I mentioned up top. Hope this helped you. Good luck with your studies. Mr.P

    ___Fe +__ H2 SO4 --->___Fe2 (SO4)3 + ____H2 the ____Fe2(SO4)3 part lets say for example i put a 2 there would be me saying now Fe-4 and S-6 and 0 24 ? basically how do I distrubute the number when it has Parethensis like that

  • @RedWOLF4Life96 That is the correct way of distribution. However, if you're looking for the answer, there is no need to put a 2 there. The correct balanced equation is: 2 Fe + 3 H2SO4 = Fe2(SO4)3 + 3 H2

    When we added 2 to the front of the Al(OH)*sub3*...

    It becomes Al: 2 and OH: 6 and not 5 because we multiply it? O.o

  • No, when we multiply if by 3, we combine SO4 as a whole. If we separate the SO4 into S's and O's, then yes we'll get 12 O's and 3 S's. We treat polyatomic ions such as SO4 as a combined when balancing, so long as they appear on both sides in the same way (as SO4). I hope this helped, thanks for watching.   • Great explanation. We just started to do balancing equations the other day in chemistry class, and I didn't understand it well at all. When I saw this video, it instantly enlightened me on the subject. I am now more able to do these equations. Your videos are all very helpful- I have been watching them and they all make a lot of sense and I now are in the top three of the chem class. Thanks so much dude. Keep making these they help alot.

  • Hey sir! I was wondering, how come, we have H2 in the reactants, and we put it down as 2 Hydrogens. (3:20 of the video) But then we have SO4 and we put that down as 1. Why not 4? Or even if we did 4, its only the oxygen that has 4 right? and the Sulfur only has 1 molecule. Do you kinda understand where I'm getting at? Thank you

  • As a matter of fact the equation you've written is already balanced. So there is nothing that needs balancing. Notice K=1 on both sides, Ag=1 on both sides and both sides have NO3=1

  • Thank you for those kind words. As for the 6, well the original number we had was 3, but we eventually come to the conclusion that the 3 fulfilled our balanced state for a short period of time. Ultimately we had to increase the number of H and the OH because we have 6 H's and 6 OH on our Reactant side. Let me know if that helped you at all. Keep me posted.

  • Yes, however it can make balancing slightly more challenging. As a student I used to separate the S and the O4 until I figured out how it helped me to keep them together. It's your choice entirely. Best of luck with your studies. Thanks for watching.

  • As a matter of fact they can be separated. Just make sure that you count the number of atoms accordingly (i.e. Al(OH)3 - means we have 1-Al, 3-O and 3-H). The only problem is that separating them will make balancing slightly more challenging when dealing with these polyatomic ions. Let me know how else I can help. Once I get my classes recorded I will start expanding my library with other material. But that won't be for at least another year as I have to build PowerPoint presentations for the material first.   • Thank you very much. This is as far as our curriculum for Grade 10 goes. I will hopefully in the near future be doing some grade 11 and 12 chemistry.

  • Exactly. Lowest common multiple. BUT remember, once you balance make sure that all the coefficients (numbers) are in lowest terms for example:

    4H2O ---> 4H2 + 2O2 notice how all the numbers can be simplified to:

    2H2O ---> 2H2 + O2

    Same rules like in math. Simplify to lowest terms once you have completely balanced the equation.

  • How do u do when you have 4 on one side and 6 on the other? Do you put 3 and 2 respectively on front of those molecules? [balance with 12 --- lowest common number].
