This song and video are so amazing ! I saw the movie recently, and it's really brilliant - more intricate and philosophical, and maybe even better, than the first GIST. It's really useful to know the lyrics of this song, thank you very much !
u should watch the second and the third as well as the tv series there also incrediable!!>,... do u hav any idea how there going to a 3D version of it?>?
that's the name of the third gits film?i watched the first and innocence (second) film and the the complet ghost in the shell-stand alone complex vol.1
Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society is the "third movie" but the story line is a follow-up on the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series. You'd be better off checking out the two seasons of that before seeing GitS:SAC SSS. If you're not down for the time investment of watching (and probably re-watching) something like 22 hours of GitS there are also the "Laughing Man" and "Individual Eleven" movies which are just feature-length summaries of seasons 1 and 2, respectively.
not completely true, the laughing man movie is actually the prequel to the whole entire series. And GitS is composed of two different types of episodes: Stand Alone (meaning that they have nothing to do with the Laughing Man and can stand by themselves) and Complex (meaning they are part of the Laughing Man storyline, and do need re-watching to fully comprehend)
"Lamenting over their being in this world of life, their dreams having faded away."
Innocence is a lack of consciousness.
Godliness is a complete oneness, knowing no differentiation. Material objects-robots- know a nothingness, again without differentiation.
It is we humans, we dreamers, that force consciousness on the world. Schopenhauer equated this to original sin...the understanding of difference brings suffering into the world. Yet, we still cling to this dream
...that's just my take on what the poem may mean...I personally don't really hover in all this pessimistic physicalism.
However, Schopenhauer(World as Will and Representation) and Freud (Civilization and its Discontents) are perhaps philosophically relevant to Ghost in the Shell. I might add, they borrow and develop from the Vedas and Buddhism, and are imminently readable if you have the time.
To understand this poem, you should probably become intimately familiar with Japanese & several religions, esp. eastern.
To Japanese people (I'm half Japanese) the poem invokes several images that you get acquainted with throughout your life without trying to.
For example, many believe that people become "gods" when we die. Christians often think this is blasphemy, but the Japanese word "kami" need not be a "god" as in western thought, angels can be considered "kami."
That's great information, and though I agree with it fully, I also think that you don't necessarily have to know so much about the culture, after all this is beautiful poetry and poetry, well it can have different meanings to different people, regardless of their cultural knowledge, but that's just my little thought on it =]
I really do adore all this work, its so deep.
The voices are so majestic and otherworldly and the timing is perfect.
@Kruelable The term God is inadequate to really describe the Abrahamic God anyway, even with the big G. People still think about zeus or apollo when talking about God, those that don't know much about theology anyway. In truth, angels, elves, fairies, demons, etc. can all be considered "gods" or "kami" in that sense, but nothing in Japanese religion is equal to God with a big G. Hinduism's Brahman and Taoism's Tao are the closest things, although they're impersonal.
I am afraid you are wrong though, this is MAKING OF ANDRIOD from the second movie, MAKING OF CYBORG is from the first movie, they both have the same composer. :)
Song played in video is "Making of a Cyborg" composed by Yohko Kanno and sung by Ilaria Graziano. The lyrics in the description are from the song "Flowers Grieve and Fall" also by the same artists.
Where did this video clip come from? Is it from "GITS: Innocence" or another anime?

@Oppaiko Angels are called gods by God. It's all about the g or G. Compared to humans they are gods but none of them is God.

this is the opening movie credit song for ghost in the shell the first movie and the song is not by kanno yoko but by kenji kawai
Because I had danced, the beautiful lady was enchanted
Because I had danced, the shining moon echoed
Proposing marriage, the god shall descend
The night clears away and the chimera bird will sing
The distant god may give us the precious blessing!"
