  • I got this camera for free when I bought an expensive printer, I love it and it has great quality.

  • hey! took these with my nikon d40

let me know what you think please :)

    artsyblogtitlehere.blogspot.com/

  • some stupid kid at school bought a d3x and he doesnt have any photographic experience. I call that spoiled

  • @PurpleEnt agreed.

  • Big dangerous and black, sounds racist lol

  • Some people don't like small cameras... I don't like hand cramps lol

  • F R E E Camera User and Owner Manuals to Download. ALL MAKES. Store it on your computer. N E V E R lose it -

  • I have a D40x and it has taken some great shots.

  • @2007omi Don't get me wrong but the D40 captures better images than the D40x mostly in night time and long shutter exposure times.

  • @kkjgg112391 The only problem I have with the D40x is that it freezes up about an hour after taking action shots. The shots are blurry or it is really slow computing them. This is a problem. I talked with another who has a higher end Nikon and it does the same thing, so its not just my camera. Nikon needs to fix this problem, or I'll buy a Cannon.

  • @2007omi

I suggest taking a look at the sony alpha A230. jsut got mine the other day and the smooth autofocuse plus other great features such as image stabilization is worth the very low price tag.

  • @kkjgg112391 Sony sucks. I broke my sony dslr in a month. Its the shittiest build quality ever.

  • @xbob808x Mine's doing good for 2 months now... no probs whatsoever... you prolly got a lemon...

  • @2007omi Its probably your memory card....

Canon has the same problem as well, if your shooting fast shots the card has to buffer them and can only process a certain amount at a time before its full. It has nothing to do with the camera.

  • i seen people take more amazing photos with "entry-level" cameras than high dollar stuff. i guess traveling lightly has it's obvious benefits..

  • You are crappy, i make photos with d40 for 3years it's awesome camera, i won many awards witch that camera

  • thanks really helpful :]

  • what lens is that?

  • i think it's a standart 18-55 kit

  • Yep, its the Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm ED Lens. Nothing special lol

  • canon rebel xs or the d40,d460, or the d3000

  • I have a D40 and love it. I got it because it was the cheapest DSLR camera where I live the cannons are a bit out of my price range.

  • @Aranur cannons! they explode when you take pictures ;)

  • @wille201 XD glad I went with my Nikon

  • @Aranur same here. still use it and it works fine

  • I've got a nikon D40x

  • whats the difference

  • the shotime series 'Dexter' just made me fall in love with Nikon all over again (:

  • does the camera brand matter? I can shoot better than my friend with a 5D Mark I; i use a Nikon D90. It's the PHOTOGRAPHER, not the CAMERA that matters.

  • You it seems)

  • Its both.

  • Specifications and features of a camera are important, however a photgrapher can make all the difference.

  • no - part of it is the photographer, the other half is the camera and quality. just correcting you :).

  • @SimaticStyle

    It's 99% photographer. Just correcting you ;)

  • @Q124R - You're absolutely right! It's the singer - NOT - the song!

  • @Q124R YOU'RE RIGHT!!! MAN :D

  • @Q124R sometimes brand or the model does matter.. especially when both photographers are well skilled but has different gears.. =D

  • i fucking love my d40 :D

  • This is not bad for a First DSLR camera.

I had a one and yes it is a first class camera.

However You will get bored very quick with it.

New "Stuff" is coming out all the time.

I have just bought the new D3000 and it is out of this world.

  • What's the meaning of SLR?

  • give me the thousands for a "real" camera so I can get one or shove it up your ass you stuck up prick.

  • The alpha A200 is better :D

  • it's a good start for starters :D

  • d40 outfit with 3x 18-55mm

    zoom-NIKKOR lens.

    megapixels-6.1

    frames per second,up to 2.5

    LCD monitor-2.5"

    $500.00

  • I want to see a review from a actual owner not some show getting paid to promote it, is this really a good camera?? is it good for first time users photographers or amateurs?? because I'm looking to get this and I have no knowledge of cameras

  • There are a few reviews here on YouTube with reviews and they aren't trying to sell the D40. Also have a look at Ken Rockwell's review of the D40, he is a professional who says he uses it alot of the time compared to his advanced DSLR. Search for his review on Google.

  • I own it and I only got two words for it: Fucking Awesome.

  • having any problems with it ?

  • None

  • and what about the price ?? is it over expensive?? for what you get?

  • It is affordable, about 399 dollars me thinks.

  • okok thank you :D

  • its 500 at least, i paid around 500 plus a 55-200 nikkor lense, an extra 290

  • does the nikon d40 auto focus?

  • Yes

  • yes, and manual. the d40 is the best slr for its price, i love it.

  • auto and manual, but not the camera just the lense, and you have to buy AF-S lenses, I have 1 its great had it for a few months now

  • yes

  • one of best cameras i have ever used better than more expensive models such as d70 and d200 in my opinion especially the d40x version its also smaller so easier to carry around and it is very very user friendly with the info screen being very usefull

  • as a matter of fact, people should just buy the SLR for just one reason alone - the fifth one he mentions.!

  • which is? it says error now :((

  • try refreshing the page.. it should load!!

he mentions the mechanical nature of the slr.

  • thanks :D

  • its 250 on most websites, however if you want to get better quality for a slightly higher price i would strongly recommend the Sony A200.

  • hahaha LOL

  • can anyone recomend me a cheap fisheye for the nikon d40?

  • Comment removed

  • Best: NIKKOR 10.5mm (I recommend this cos Nikkors are made by Nikon and you know they are made for each other - just a bit expensive, but worth the money.)

You may also wana try -

TOKINA 10-17 (Does the job, cheaper too)

SIGMA 10-20 (not a fish eye, but an ultra wide angle lens)

  • also, try asking a lot of Nikon users whats best. don't just take my opinion.

There are many Nikon/digital still photography forums on the internet for discussions. Join one of them and post this question there. cos if you wanna spend a few hundred dollars, you might wanna be sure you made the right choice.

  • dslrs look big dangerous and black

    hahahaha LOL

    made my day

  • the nikon d40 is a great camera for someone who's looking for more than compact digital cameras can offer.

it's probably the least expensive DSLR, just like he says, i got mine at best buy for about $400.

it's got a large range of presets for the beginner, and precise manual controls for the intermediate or expert user. It also is fully compatible with the Nikkor DX line of lenses, which has dozens of lenses. It will also work with older Nikon lenses, but not all features may be compatible.

  • 0:14

    big, dangerous and black

    hahahahahahah

  • hi im new 2 photography n i dnt no which camera 2 buy d40 d40x d60 or d80 so which 1 its the best 4 beginners pls let me no thnx

  • I would say that the d40 would be great for beginners. It is quite user friendly and is aimed at beginners. Not to mention, it's the cheapest of the 4!

  • Which is better to buy D40 or D60?

  • i was debating between the d40 and d60. i went with the 40. Its cheaper, and has a higher flash sync speed. The only reason to get the 60 is if you change the lenses a lot, you may want the auto dust cleaner. I don't think most people will use more than 6MP. Search "The Megapixel Myth".

  • Hi, I own a D60 since 3 months and think that it is a great camera. dust reduction and the quite better resolution are really useful compared to the D40 !

  • I have one, and it's amazing. Very cheap too, which is a plus when you're on an extremely tight budget. :D

  • d60 is much better

  • uhhh, no!!!!

  • you shouldve metioned that the 6 MP sensor is better than a compact digital because of the sensors size which allows it to get more light per pixel giving you higher quality images. i really want one of those

  • now I want the nikon D60 so should u get that the rebel xs or rebel xsi

  • i do skateboarking, ive got the nikon d40 and when i take a picture the shutter snaps really quickly but the pic comes out blurred, why is this??

  • your shutter time may be too slow. Use Shutter Priority Mode (S) and use at least a 1/1000s.

  • you might need faster shutter speed if you have it in auto that may be why

  • Hey shiuld I get this or the Canon EOS Rebel XS or the Son A200

  • No competition, don't even need comparing. Get the Nikon. You will love it as much as I do.

  • i love this camera, it works amazing and takes great shots. my dad also uses it all the time for sports and the shots turn out crystal clear!

  • Hey I might get 1 in 1 week for my birthday I like to take pics, what kinda zoom does it have like how far away could you take a picture of a person and get them the whole body just the body height in the picture, does it have any digital zoom.(PLEASE RESPOND)

  • Comment removed

  • lawl at gee

  • It doesn't have any digital zoom that I know of, but it uses a lens to zoom in. (You turn it with your hands) You can stand pretty far and still be able to take a picture of a person .

  • no no digital thats what you get in a compact digital. the lens it comes with has 3x zoom if you want bigger you have to get a 55-200mm zoom lens which will cost around 150 dollars

  • the bundled 18-55mm has a zoom range of 3x.

  • D40 is so good, with it around i dont have to think about any other DSLR

  • I love my Nikon D40 its one of the best SLR cameras you can get for the price range. The 6million pixels dont bother me as i wont be printing poster size pictures. I cant find any faults with camera atoll and the price is now only £240.

  • "..it looks big, dangerous and black." heh...you know what else is?....

  • Love my Nikon :)

  • i really wan't to buy this for my grandparents.

  • im amazed how these caneras are not sculpted to you face when taking a shot had the canon 450d just sat there so sold it the problem well, you need a set of lenses so your looking a 800+ for a decent setup plus dam scared of droping, banging it just to big to cary round

  • wtf is a canera. I'm not going to care what someone says when they are too lazy to even proof-read themselves.

  • hey you dont know what a canera is its a square box that contains lenses, some plastice, 3 match sticks and a foo foo valve LOL :)

  • Why's Derren Brown doing this?

    1:24

  • you mean looking through the viewfinder? because there is no live view function on a d40

  • No...it just sounded like Derren Brown at the point...in my opinion...

  • great reveiw thanks, I wanna get into DSLR photography but theyre so bloody exspensive. this is a good budget camera, my art teacher has this camera and I've played with it, it is so easy to use

  • it's around 37o euros kit . pretty affordable

  • 0.16 racist

  • Hello.

Do anyone know if I can make good prints in A4 paper with the D40 ? The quality will be good ?

I thinking to grab this camera, and i need to know if the prints will be nice (if they will not be pixelated).

    Thanks !

  • LOL 0:15-0:17

  • what is there?

  • I was having problems loading it and all I herd was "big, dangerous, and black"

  • lmao

  • nice call sir hahaha

  • canon sucks -canon sucks -canon sucks

  • Fuck canon you stupid bitch.

  • Why does everyone beat on Canon users?

Canon and Nikon are just as great.

  • ehh, i just switched from canon 40D to a Nikon D700, and yeah I know they are in different classes, but even the d90 vs. the 40d. Nikon is winning the best DSLR battle. Doesn't mean that Canon won't make a comeback. But for now, Nikon has the more advanced system, and the more reliable camera!

  • Is the d40 ne good when taking sports photos

  • As of now.

    :]

    Danteamaral17,

ALMOST any (D)SLR is good for taking sports shots, as you can 'freeze' the action.

    But yes,

    A D40 is a mediocre beginner camera.

    Research!

  • canon 40D is 6.5 fps. yes. very good for sports.

  • Comment removed

  • should i get a nikon d40 with standard lens or the nikon p80?

  • The D40 does not suck. It is a fantastic entry level DSLR. Don't mislead people with your idiotic, misguided views. You're a moron, BRO.

  • IDK but i cant decide on which the buy. The D40 or the P90. Help PLZ!

  • D40, if you dont know what to choose then the D40 is yours choice

  • Comment removed

  • i hate cameras that are too small because you are more likely to shake when you shoot. larger cameras reduce that tendency . Nuf said.

  • how much is this?

    400$ right?

  • yea, $399 at costco

  • YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU>UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU>UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU>UUu

  • if your really into photography and you think your gonna get serious with it do not buy this camera go for a D300 or something around that spend the extra money its worth it you dont want to start with this and then buy one because youll be spending too much but if your just gonna play around with photography for a hobby and to show your artistic side go for this its a great camera!

  • megapixels arent that important in as far as image quality is concerned, megapixels are only relavant really when you want to enlarge it.

  • it is only 6 mega pixelsssssssssss

  • Its not about mega pixels its about the glass

  • and the sensor, the sensor in DSLRs is much larger than compact cameras and hence they have a larger dynamic range.

  • that is very true. ignore all these people. glass is perhaps more important, but 6.1mp is just wayy too low for a dslr

  • No, 6.1mp its not too low for an slr. If you've ever taken a pic with this camera you would know that. The Nikon d40 slr functions beatifully with this megapixel range. Some ppl r clearly led to believe that a higher megapxl is somewhat conjusive to better image quality. That is not the case at all.

  • never said that, but I still think 6.1mp is too low, and it dumbfounds me why nikon would put 6.1mp on a camera, when no other dslr on the market has it. but yes, I know megapixels are only one part to it, but it is still an important part

  • absolutely. Seeing as its the most accessible dslr on the market, this might possibly explain their choice of moderate megapxl range by trying to make it a more budget viable option. Still, its defo a great camera but i am biased.

  • can you explain the whole megapixel thing to me? a lot of people say that the more you have the better/brighter your colors will be, but magazines and other Nikon users say that it doesn't..right now i have a Sony Cybershot [10.1MP]...so i don't know how i can tell if MP matter

  • Brighter/betta/sharper colors can also b achieved in post lyk photoshop or other softwares. Mpxls matter wen u want 2blow up an image, higher mpxls doesn't necessarily mean increased quality. I have a 10MP cam from fujifilm & its nothin compared 2 my Nikon 6.1MP. SLR's are generally better & this Nikon is an entry-level type slr. Pic quality has mor 2 do with skill & a quality lense 4 resolution. mpxls hasn't that much 2 do with the look of an image. There are great cams with lower mp ranges.

  • Oh, & i 4got to mention the sensor in slr cameras. They are in a different league & add much more to the quality of an overall image than a typical higher mp digital cam with less sophisticated overall function attributes. Sometimes higher mp digital cams overcompensate for the lack of overall function. in general slr's r built 2 an overall standard where all aspects of the cam r designed to produce the best possible images. so definitely take evrything in2 account when purchasing ur nxt 1 :-)

  • I have a nikonD80 and i lalalove it<3

  • should i get a d40 or a d60? what has better image quality?

  • depends how large you want to blow up an image.
