It killed me when it ended the way it ended. It felt like such a massive slap in the face and injustice to kill her off in such a way!! I watched the whole series until it came up to FIN. I'd put off watching it for years because I didn't wanted admit to myself that it was over. I cried through nearly the whole episode and by the end I was more angry and upset than anything else. Now, I refuse to watch the last 2 episodes. In my opinion, Many Happy Returns is the way it ended and always will be!

My heart broke into a million pieces when I saw the ending; that for Xena to truly atone for her sins, she would have to be separated from the love of her life. There was nothing more agonizing for Xena than to be parted from Gabrielle. You could see it in her eyes just before she vanishes :'(
@sarah9191919 No. She's actually already dead while fighting him, that's her spirit fighting him. Xena dies in a previous battle in the ep, where she faces an army by herself.
In the ending when Xena and gabrielle are talking they didn't use some of the song you hear here. instead they used an old song he came up with when series 1 started. I prefer that version. I dont know why. I think because it was simplier so make me focus more on the cry-fest action (even though i didn't want to T_T)
