Aussie drivers need better driver training. Europeans travel 3 times faster on their freeways and for their population ratio they have far less road deaths compared to Australia. Im scared to drive here even with these slow speed limits more than I do in Greece or Germany or anywhere else in Europe. Stick to left lane all slow traffic and let faster cars overtake on the right lanes. Look at your mirrors before swaping lanes, keep distance between other vehicles, dont speed in populated areas.
watchin this video make me think twice bout getting my l's incase this happens to me i didnt no luke but mate everyone of ur family and friends are missing u r.i.p.luke
why have 444 people liked this im one one the 38 people no to like this on the grounds that it is so sad to see his friends and family in this way very touching video
my thoughts are with you all
i did not know you luke but you sound like you have some amazing friends and family
I've lost many friends of speed by crashing with motorcycle.I got a motorcycle, too. These vids already changed my mind of speeding in roads.Sometimes you taste the speeds' adrenaline but all times you have in your mouth the deaths' taste that for some seconds you can lost everything.Even your life.
@leo328i6: I remember safety ads from the '60's, so it's not a result of a current trend. A true "nanny state" would set a maximum speed for privately owned vehicles and not allow you to own a faster one. Their ads are propoganda that I can get behind. The fatalities are not inevitable, as evidenced by by the reduction in their numbers. And evidently, something is working to reduce them. RIP Luke, may God comfort your loved ones.
We must think about our decisions before we act upon them. Everybody please if you have a car and drive, don't speed. Even if your in a big rush we don't want to see you go out that way.
Its certainly not a popular point of view, but I hate how we're such a nanny state now that needs to be bombarded with trying to be safer. TAC gets way too much of our tax and road registration dollars just to try and reduce inevitable road fatalities. Its almost become like propaganda, seeing adverts on the side of freeways saying 'we'll catch like bunnies this Easter' with a picture of a police officer with a speed gun. Absolute garbage.
Well, I have a feeling that, if you were to lose someone close to you through something such as irresponsible driving, you'd be singing a completely different song. You're more worried about the cost of advertising than the lives of others. The REAL tragedy is that people like you are never the ones to die. You should move here to the U.S. where 30-40,000 people die each year in car accidents.
Hang on a minute. This kid didn’t die simply because he was speeding, he died because he crashed, simple as that. Inexperience and poor decision making are to blame here. I can’t believe all of the sheep here that rabbit on with all of this speed kills rubbish. Teach kids to drive instead of teaching them to pass a bloody test and we might get somewhere.
Not all accidents are a result of speeding, but if Luke had been doing the speed limit, he would have had enough time to slow down and correct his position on the road, as is the case with alot of accidents. The TAC made this campaign, they know more than all you who are criticizing this ad do.
Suicide rate is double that of the road toll yet the government won't do anything. Suppose there's no financial return in preventing suicide, no point giving someone a ticket for a suicide attempt...
no amount of ads or stories the TAC make will stop idiots from driving the way they do, one has to feel the pain of loss to change their ways, young teens will still speed and drive drunk but so will adults and what not and there's nothing wrong with that, but they have no respect for their own lives and or the people in the car and the lives of the people on the road, and dont think of the repercussions this has on their family and friends till its too late, people need to stop being so selfish
when my mother and sister died in a car crash its was what you would say was a freak accident, i myself being in the car had to witness my mothers death and broke my leg, my sister died 2 days later from her injuries, now its been tough for me me but even tougher for my dad, hes admitted that the hardest thing is his life was cleaning out my sisters room, but what the TAC has to realise is that no amount of ads and stories will stop the dickheads on our roads
You can die in any car, but the government pretty much ignores passive car safety.
Let's compare the result of a VN Commodore getting T-boned and the result of a Volvo XC90 getting T-boned.
I understand very few parents can afford an XC90 for their kid, but seriously, the ONLY reason why the government wouldn't offer incentives to get older and more dangerous (and more polluting!) cars off the road is that it is too expensive. Fucking pisses me off.
To all those people claiming "it's not speed that kills - it inexperience, or not being able to predict other drivers" etc.
Please think about this- if you are only driving at 50km/h does your little mistake because you are inexperienced, or reacting to something you didn't expect- does that kill you? or do you have time to breaK? or swerve?
Errors on the road are always less likely to be fatal if you are driving slower.
Eh, this one's not so bad. I saw a woman a couple years back who was thrown out of a vehicle on the freeway during the night. The biggest piece of her after she was run over a dozen times was her shredded torso, sans head/arms/legs. The only piece of her I could identify (as a human part) was an ear. The person who threw her out of the vehicle didn't seem to even bat an eye about it. At least when you hit a pole at high speeds its 98% an instant fatality.
A sad loss, but even so this is mere TAC propoganda.
How can speeding in itself be the cause of any one accident? The cause has to be either the vehicle, driver or the road or a combination of those three factors. Of course none of this mentioned in this video, deliberately so.
Ask yourself why the Council or Government is not facing a manslaughter charge for placing an unprotected power pole on the side of a rural road.
Its not the speed, its the way how they "learn" to drive you can do 300+ legally on the Autobahn in Germany and there is no problem, the RTA is the problem because all they do is teach you how to pass the exam and NOT how to drive.
i got all choked up watching this. its been a while now since he passed away but i still see within the tight nit group of friends from school the impact it has left. i hope people start to learn from others mistakes. Luke was too young to of been taken, but mistakes can have horrible outcomes such as this one :( ... RIP Luke gone but not forgotten
@fenderish so cars kill people and not the people who drive them you sound like a anti-gun advocate there is always a person who caused this not the vehicle.
The reason there are few deaths on the autobahn is because drivers are 'expecting' high speeds. The problem with roads that have slower limits is that some ppl want to exceed the speed limit and some dont. The autobahn has the speeds set as high as ppl could possibly want to go therefore ppl who want to go slower on the autobahn are more cautious because theyre expecting to encounter fast travelling cars. But no one expects to encounter a car doing 90kms in a 60km zone, logic speaks for itself.
You can speed as much as you want but until humans can predict other drivers behaviour the roads will never be safe unless everyone follows the rules properly. You can speed as fast as you want down an empty fast lane but if someone wants to overtake using the fast lane, they probably wont see you coming and you probably wont be able to slow down enough in time to avoid a collision. Its inexperience yes, but even the best 'safe speeders' cant predict what other drivers are about to do.
i give my condolences to the family that lost this young man, but does this have to happen for us to realize that it can happen to anyone in just 15 seconds of a little thrill? Do inoccent familys have to lose a loved one for us to think and not speed on our roads. We need to be more sensible and more serious on the roads because we arent driving cars we are driving death machines. This young mans death has made an impact on me to be carreful when i go for my licensene.
Maybe is the Australian government took the same initiative as the Germans and funded driver training and better roads and actually gave Australians a reason to get newer, safer cars we would be hearing less about the road toll rising.
You cannot place blame solely on the individual. If our government cared they'd put the money where it matters. If speeding kills why is the Autobahn one of the safest places to drive? Even though people are going in excess of 150kmph?
On 6th August 2010, a link on the website I was browsing was hijacked, taking me here instead.
On the subjet of speeding: Speeding may be the leading contributing factor in accidents, but it has been proven speeding alone does NOT cause accidents!
Speeding isn't the fault here it's inexperience if you're going to speed then learn how to control your car, and learn how to drive first. Everyone in the video is blaming it on speeding but speeding didn't kill Luke.
Well all I can say is how sorry I am for his family and friends , im friends with his little brother jai, kiddo he woulda been proud of you and your whole family for the way that you guys have tried to help other people :)
Well, I'm embarrased to say I never thought about it like that. I used to speed when riding my bike alone and on empty back roads thinking it's ok since I'm only endangering myself but I didn't think how badly my family would hurt if something happened.
I never got the point of speeding. I see so many people do it on the freeway out here in Cali. I mean I get it if you're late, but there is still no reason to drive 80, 90, 100+ every time you hit the freeway. Your card WILL get pulled. Maybe not today, maybe not next week, but your card WILL get pulled when you speed. Hell, maybe it won't be your card. It'll be your son or your friend's, just to make it feel worse.
Not the anguish the people are feeling - that is more than real. But the statement in the description "a crash as a result of speeding" is false.
Speed has never been a factor in the cause of ANY accident. If it were true. everyone who drives over 30 mph would get in an accident. Every NASCAR, F1 and NHRA driver would be dead.
It's not speed that causes accidents. it's DRIVER ERROR. Whether from inexperience, road conditions, alcohol or drugs, or emotion - it's driver error.
@USAon3 but if they weren't speeding, the consequences of their errors are less likely to result in death. The greater the speed the greater the impact.
The difference between race cars is that the roads and cars are built for it, ALL drivers are trained and there are proper safety measures in place.
Public roads aren't tailored to high speeds and not everyone on the roads has the same level of experience.
Speed may not be the only cause of the crash but it does kill
Well said, i hate accidents and although i have a driver licence (was actually force by my parents to get it( i don't like driving. I think cars at this moment in history do more harm then good. All the pollution, all the consuption.....God it never ends, fast and faster.....until a sudden stop or impact.
I had a similar experience, I was driving a bus and this car came flying out of nowhere, some estimates were that the car was travelling at around 200kmh he hit the brakes swerved and slammed into the front of the bus. He died instantly, I suffered a broken wrist, my face was cut to shreds with the glass, my eyes were bleeding. I had a broken contact lens behind the back of my eye for about a week. It affected my family and me in a big way. I feel for anyone who loses a loved one.
i give my condolences to the family that lost this young man, but does this have to happen for us to realize that it can happen to anyone in just 15 seconds of a little thrill? I love how people continue to speed, this is nature's way of killing off a portion of stupid people in the world, too bad they take others with them :(
I'm so sorry. I hope to never KNOW what you all are feeling, but I can only imagine; I know you never wanted to know either. Thanks for sharing this, and I hope it saves lives. I'll be showing it to my sons when they wake. Bless you, and may your pain ease.
While V8 supercars etc are promoted so extensively through the media, how are you going to change the habits of the Lukes of this world? This culture should be challenged and condemned for the stupidty it enhances. The law should also prosecute hooning in tandem with some conviction and heavier penalties. Like most things in this day, the campaign is all too soft, and without leadership and conviction.
Very well produced ad. But, and I say this with all due respect to family and friends of road accident victims, isn't this intellect vs a cultural norm that doesn't have the capacity to absorb this sort of sentiment and appeal? Australia has a demographic that worships cars, speed and the accompanying culture of loud exhausts, tatoos and rum and coke. I don't think they would respond to this.
Propaganda! Nothing but revenue raising & you know it. Speed cameras do not save lives, they pay for fat politician's lunches & chauffeur driven vehicles.
I really hope everyone takes a long hard look and LEARNS from this add!!! I feel for the ppl in the ad! Your all very brave but a GREAT cause!!! STOP THE STUPIDNESS ON OUR ROADS
Shit, it hurts everybody, even me. I feel like a family member even though I never met the kid. R.I.P

PzownedProductions 1 year ago
This is a sham.
USAon3 1 year ago
@USAon3 but if they weren't speeding, the consequences of their errors are less likely to result in death. The greater the speed the greater the impact.
The difference between race cars is that the roads and cars are built for it, ALL drivers are trained and there are proper safety measures in place.
Public roads aren't tailored to high speeds and not everyone on the roads has the same level of experience.
Speed may not be the only cause of the crash but it does kill

The eyewitness looks like he has a plastic mop shaped in a bowl cut on his head. Why do people have those?

Do inoccent familys have to lose a loved one for us to think and not speed on our roads. We need to be more sensible and more serious on the roads because we arent driving cars we are driving death machines. This young mans death has made an impact on me to be carreful when i go for my licensene.

While V8 supercars etc are promoted so extensively through the media, how are you going to change the habits of the Lukes of this world? This culture should be challenged and condemned for the stupidty it enhances. The law should also prosecute hooning in tandem with some conviction and heavier penalties. Like most things in this day, the campaign is all too soft, and without leadership and conviction.
mesixpence 1 year ago
Very well produced ad. But, and I say this with all due respect to family and friends of road accident victims, isn't this intellect vs a cultural norm that doesn't have the capacity to absorb this sort of sentiment and appeal? Australia has a demographic that worships cars, speed and the accompanying culture of loud exhausts, tatoos and rum and coke. I don't think they would respond to this.
mesixpence 1 year ago
@mesixpence I totally, totally agree.
Sorry i voted you down, i meant to vote you up.

Brilliant Video, should be compulsory viewing for ALL Australian Learners when they go for their licence, and an Ad on TV Australia wide.
