@Voxnulla.......the mirror is to give continuous auto focus when using burst and video.....and the EVF also helps example if you're in a very bright area , you can't see the screen that well, but if you look through the EVF, it's a tunnel like thing so you can still see what you're doing.....

I was going to go with sony as well because they have the IS in the body so you can use any lens and you still retain the IS.... I use Canon and I can tell you all that I spend more money on lenses than the body;...Sony has a great point here, Minolta has some awesome lenses that will have IS because of the body... I guess you win this one Sony.

@BoxxyFan so u still loose light? I mean u can't bump iso as much as u want especially with the not really astonishing noise performance of the sony... Its like saying that u don't loose light as u can just open the aperture or increase the shutter speed.

@JellyfishJNM The noise performance is good considering it has 24mp. You only lose 1/3 stop of light, that's nothing. Compare it to the NEX-7 with the same sensor without the mirror, there is barely any difference at all. And the advantage is you gain 12fps and super fast AF for videos. Go eat a dick, dumbass.

@swingAE86 A900 is an amazing camera. I own one and I highly recommended. If you don't shoot in super low light and you don't need live view this is a best pro camera body to own. 5 fps, 24 megapixels, 100% viewfinder, 19 cross type af points, lens micro adjustment. Color reproductions, focus, metering, exposure is amazingly accurate, focus is fast. Greatly faster than 5d Mk2 but not as fast as the D3. The images look realistic, not as vivid as Nikon and as flat as Canon. They look real.

A lot of Sony fanboys here.. :P While there are a lot of good points for the camera, this camera fails with the electronic viewfinder delay, the light loss from the translucent mirror, and the lag in changing the settings. All of these are serious issues if you're doing sports photography or something similar. The 12 FPS sounds really good, but would that outweigh the negatives?

@Moemay9 Actually, the delay I was talking about here was with electronic viewfinders in general. Basically, there is a small delay with the sensor collecting the image data, the electronics processing it, and then displaying it to the viewfinder. You may not think it's much, but it could mean the difference between getting the shot and missing it.

I've had this camera for over 2 months now and so far I am quite content with my purchase and glad I chose this over the d7000. The high ISO performance is more than satisfactory (I never go over 1600) Only thing I wish was different would be if it ised CF mem cards instead of SD. A regular class 10 SD is too slow for it and an SD Extreme Pro (45mbs write speed) is better but a 60mbs CF card would be perfect for it.

@TechCrazy Sony may make it, but somehow Pentax and Nikon does something to those Sony sensors to make them better. If you look at the DxO mark score, the Pentax K-5 sensor scores 9 points better than the Alpha A55, which has the same sensor, and 1 point better than the Nikon D7000, which also has the same sensor.

@agremeister : Agree Nikon and Canon have been in this business for longer than Sony. But don't forget, Sony inherited all the technical knowledge from Minolta, one of the stalwarts in photography. Sony is experimenting with SLT and other cool stuff. As i read somewhere, it might take an electronics company to for once change SLR photography. You never know.

@TechCrazy Also don't forget that Sony makes sensors for Nikon, Pentax, and other camera manufactures... Canikon users always gonna bitch at other camera brands. Sony cameras are great. I have A900 and its an amazing full frame even though its 4 years old and due for replacement. The color and skin tone reproduction is nothing that Canikon can produce a lot less post production required plus 24 megapixels on full frame allow me to crop all I want.

His only serious criticisms were the slow switch from rear LCD to EVF, slow responses to setting changes, and loss of light transmission to the sensor. All were evident in the video. He does also show Nikon and Canon deficiencies.

Hi guys i just did a comparison on 5 cameras.'Sony SLT-A77, Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 , Canon EOS 7D , Sony SLT-A65 , Canon EOS 550D (EOS Rebel T2i / EOS Kiss X4). And it turns out that the Sony SLT A77 (Alpha) is slightly better than the Canon EOS 7D out of the top 2, here is the link to compare the cameras' you would like to find out for yourself. Sadly, i cannot post the link up for you guys to check yourself, but after comparing them, it is the Sony SLT A77 that is currently best.

@yamahaevo Yes it does, and believe me I was very disappointed with the Sony. I really wanted to like it and really wanted it to be good. I have no brand loyalty what so ever. In fact the best looking pictures I have ever seen were taken with the Sony a850 below ISO 400.

I like Sony, I was just really disappointed with the quality of a77 pictures.

with the fast 12fps sd cards can't keep up. for me it should been a compact flash card. with 7fps sony a550 the buffer is too slow. and with this new a77, lots of great moments will not be taken. by the way I got a550 using a class 10 sdhc card.

A 90mb/s Sandisk Extreme SD is what you need for the A77 then it's buffer can write MUCH faster to the card and be able to shoot/burst much sooner.
