  • 2nd 1 very pretty 3rd very big and cool

  • Thanks Jamie - a shame the butterflies didn't perform for you in December. After some recent rains they are out in force here at the moment! Including some we've never seen before - will try to take some more footage.

  • love it, unfortunately i didn't get to see so many of these beauties on my trip in December, but i did find lots of monster moths!

  • Wow will I see them when I visit Daintree in October next year?

  • Hi Penolva - you are almost sure to see them as there are always some in our gardens, especially just after rain. You will be here during our dry season so there may not be quite so many around. Keep an eye out around any pink or red plants which they love - I was wearing red the other day and a Cairns Birdwing actually landed on me! Cheers - Daphne

  • wow, i just love australian butterflies, i collect lots of these species, so pretty..thanks 4 posting

  • Thanks Hollie - this is a debatable point! I have just found the following reference to the Hercules Moth:-

"This species and the tropical Asian 'Atlas moth' compete for biggest moths in the world, if measured by wing area" Script: Courtesy of Damon Ramsey BSc.(Zool) Biologist Guide

I can say for sure that it is certainly the largest moth in Australia!

  • No, the largest moth in the world is the Atlas moth.

  • @HollieTash hi Hollie, that's what i thought before i came across the Hercules, which has long tails and looks very similar to the Atlas .. Attacus Atlas
