@muusicman1993 I'm in SF, the weather cold and frosty in the morning. the glass will not clear all, some parts of the glass at the side will not clear in 5min, my honda or sonata 07 clear it in 2min. also when it foggy, it doest the same thing, not really good on clearing foggy glass.
who said the camry is more powerful..? nowadays, hyundai is trying to improve in its cars, and the thing is that the people think that cars from japan is still better but it's not, some kinds of the cars from Korea are better than cars from japan.
I got a 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4L 4cil and after more than 5000 miles on South West of US I can tell you for true that the real mileage is over the advertised 32MPG on highway . I scored 32.8 MPG on a 490 miles run with A/C on and about 2 hours of stop-and-go in LA traffic [I10 Highway], two adults, empty trunk.
Next round I scored 32.6 MPG with no traffic at all but some heavy winds from side.
The best I scored 33.3 MPG from Sacramento to LA with no traffic, during the night, on I5 Highway.

@Bomchilaka for one, a Hyundai's parts are way harder to find and are more expensive than a domestic car brand. Also, i spelled all my words correct. You on the other hand did not. (you spelled expensive as "exoensive")
@Bomchilaka Ford actually didn't go bankrupt you dumb fuck. They're actually kicking ass... 2010 Motortrend Car of the Year whaaaaat??? Who said that??? Oh, Motortrend did, because the Fusion is an awesome car.
Had one of these for a day a 2010 gl , what a wonder full car, rides great, goes like mad, buttery smooth transmission shifts, quiet on the road .... i want a 2011 =-)
mom has this car, i'm about to get a thunderbird :/ anyway.... we almost got hit by an ambulance cant here the sirens with the damn windows up! safty hazzard!! very unimpressed with this car . dont like it. ive drivin it. baaad
the only thing that is TOO BAD!!!! is sonatas rubbish heavy and hursh shifting transmission, really disappointing, with only 40 k km=26k miles, city style driven, toyotas tranny way far better than any hyundais own tranny
there car hold up for a little bit but after a while they slowly get screwed. the tires have issues on it the engin makes clink noises when we first got it it had ballz i mean now, it takes awhile to get to 60mph. ours is an automatic and when you take it out of park into reverse it clinks and it sounds like a dieing cat. and we dnt go funky wit it. we drive normally and take reall good care of it its a pos
and it only has 13,000 miles on it. its a 2009 no dents nothing looks like it came write out of the dealership. no scrathes. we got it on march of 2009. oh and not to mention the fact that the gas pedal or throttle thing is not real quick to respond. cant tell you how many times the stupid gas pedal clipped under that damn mat. so now that driver side floor matts are in the garage. SAFTY HAZARD!
I these are the facts that hyundai does not tell, spread it in any hyndai video as much as possible to let people know that hyundai sonata is in reality!!! how I really hate sonatas transmission so stupid, HIVEC=Hyundai stupid electronic control
Just got one of these today for a rental while work is being done to my Jetta.. I am pretty impressed... but I'd have much preferred a Camry or an Accord
I got my used 07 for $9000 with 41000m on it. Very nice car and for the price it give me a feel like driving a new accord, because i used to have my 97 accord for 10 years. and I can tell hyundai is better for the price, and same quality as I need. not to mention of 32.5mpg I just hit last week.
unfortunetely not, but it is about $12000 on the blue book. The guy sold this car to me because he got a fight with his girl friend and there is no need to keep it. so he sold to me dirty cheap.
Glad to hear that a former Honda owner bought a Hyundai and loves it. They really are nice cars for the money now. Not the cheap junk of the past. That's why I bought my '06 Kia Optima, which is essentially a Hyundai Sonata. Hyundai owns Kia. I bought mine in March of '09 with 32k miles for $6,900. I've since put 15k miles on it and I still really enjoy driving it. Best tank I got so far was just shy of 35MPGs on a long trip. Love the 4cyl. It's plenty strong in all situations and sips fuel.
Hyundai is definitely stepping their game up! They came a VERY long way! If Hyundai were to turn the Sonata into, a mini version of the Genesis(like Lincoln did with the MKS and, MKZ)..., the Camry and, Accord wouldn't stand a chance! :-)
I have owned a 2001 & 2007 Sonata & would hihly recommend it. I live in a hilly area and find the 3.3l/V6 to be a bit better for mileage than the 4cyl. Plus if you like a little ooommph, the 3.3 gives it. Great acceleration (for a family sedan) and great top end.
OK...why are you guys arguing about an 88 Toyota... it was 21 FREAKING YEARS AGO... go drive a new one and compare that... A lot changes in 21 years...BTW I agre with you 21 years ago the jap stuff did feel a bit tin can like... But I also agree that they freakin ran forever if cared for.
Hyundai will be what Toyota used to be, low priced cars with excellent build quality and reliable motors. Toyota quality and reliability has gone down hill since the 1990's
My cousin had a Toyota Camry I have a Hyundai Elantra, both the same year, 2002. Her Toyota threw a rod through the block at 101k miles. My Hyundai is at 150k, with no problems. Toyotas are not indestructible like people think they are.
I agree. One of the worst cars I owned was an '88 Camry. The 4cyl was awful. Horribly underpowered, leaked oil as a hobby, and burned it as well. The interior was so cheap, typical of even today's Toyotas. The plastic panels literally fell off in some places, the cloth came off the doors. The seats were terribly uncomfortable. I could go on and on. I only kept it a year. I didn't like driving a tin can.
fail...epic fail...toyota's outlast basically any car on the road exception being honda.....just cause u had 1 camry that did that "if it even did"...thats just one car...thousands of camry's last a very very long time.....and for the interior i can vouche it is very good quality....so you very epic fail there ...
Have you even owned an '88 Camry or of that vintage? They were tin cans! I did. I'm speaking from experience. So all you have to say is opinion, not fact. A bad opinion, in my opinion. Read online, Camry's 2.2L has oil sludge problem, that is a fact and an epic fail. I've read of the 3.0 V6 having that problem too, but much less common. Some guy's Avalon with 50k miles needed an engine rebuild because of it. Epic fail. LOL I've NEVER heard of a Hyundai having sludge problems. Leave it to Toyota.
Oh yes, becase everyone knows that the Japanese make all kinds of great trucks. You're an idiot. I hope you drive a Honda Ridgeline so people point and laugh.
tin can?...ive never saw a 2,600 pound tin can before....so that was a ridiculous juvenile statement.....anyways....yeah i will say not all toyota engines will be perfect....every car maker has had problems...and yeah i had an 88 mine leaked oil here and there...but it ran fine...even with 223,000 miles on....my A/C still worked perfect even with that many miles....that is at least one great accomplishment for that car lol...sweet eh?
If you weren't so biased and drove vehicles other than Japanese you'd know European cars feel different than American cars, which feel different than Japanese cars. European cars tend to feel the most solid. Japanese cars tend to feel cheap and soda can-like. It's not just Toyota. I don't know about the latest, but for the longest time, Nissans felt like soda cans too. Doors sound thin, seats are hard, plastics look cheap. The Japanese have not won me over with high prices and cheap feelings.
Outdated? You don't drink carbonated drinks? Or maybe my little analogy went over your little 15yr old head. I'm guessing that's how old you are judging by your language. Get some class kid, and while you're at it, grow up.

Hyundai is going to do so well with the new Genesis line. Toyota also flourished in a few decades and by the way things are going for Hyundai, I say why not?
my 2002 lincoln ls is way better than this 09 sonata. that thing is ugly as shit... and if it was better than the accord, camry, malibu, taurus whatever they say then wouldnt every person on your block have one
No Kevin, even Germans thought Hitler was right when they were participating in his killing madness...Also did every person on your block have a Japanese car 20 years ago?
What everyone does is not necessarily correct. Grow up...

Go sit in an Accord or Camrey. Then go sit in the Sonata and you'll come to see that the quality in the Hyundai is noticeably better wit it's fit and finish all around. Drive them all...in my opinion the Sonata is more pleasant and comfortable to drive.
its definitely a step above where it used to be. Nice interior but the exterior kind or reminds me of an Oldsmobile now. I prefer the Camry SE or the Altima, which are better.
i got 26.97 imperial mpg (I-4)on a 2008, driving in city (no speeding, no abrupt launch or stop, lot of stop-n-go traffic). the air-conditioner was on 90% of the time!
I just got a 2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited (4 cylinder), and it's freakin awesome!!! SO GO FUCKIN INSULT OTHER COMPANIES LIKE HONDA OR FUCKIN TOYOTA!!!!
only fools drive koreans, lacking in imagination, fools and stupid, this brand lacks souls, lack creed, lackbreed,im driving an alfa 159-10times better off, sonata are meant for cab drivers huhuhu
wow you have an alfa? dont thoughs depresiate in value rather quickly, souless? are you fucking kidding me, i guess anything from italy has soul....And i see no sonatas as cab cars.
I own the 2009 Sonata GLS 5speed manual. It's a dream to drive, and it handles like the older Mercedes E Class (back when Mercedes used to make solid vehicles). It gets 23~25 in the city, and 32 hwy (with the manual). The interior is really. Can't beat the price either, $15500 + tax.
Amen, I buy it because it meets my driving needs whenever I'm driving within the law, warraty - best, milage-best, dependable-best, price-best... shall I go on. Yea, you can pay for a better handling machine but how often can you use those attributes in your daily slog? Oh yeah, you can pay for a wanna-be badge from Germany or Japan, not me I'll put that 10-20 g and go to Ger or Japan.
I was looking forward to this review, and I still am. What I mean is another one. This one sucked. I want to know more. I want to know the gas milage in the v6, I want to know if it will be reliable like honda and toyota...
Do some homework online, Hyundai now rates equal to or better than Honda & Toyota for quality and they just replaced Honda for the 5th best selling automaker in the world. I'd post the links if youtube would let me.
that's on the v6? not bad...but the price for the loaded model is too high brand new...I'll wait a year the buy one MAYBE if I dont buy an avalon, or the 06 accord exl
Sonata have done a bad job on front defroster, i rate it poor, but over all it is a high quality car.

Hyundai is going to do so well with the new Genesis line. Toyota also flourished in a few decades and by the way things are going for Hyundai, I say why not?
Sangereal 3 years ago
my 2002 lincoln ls is way better than this 09 sonata. that thing is ugly as shit... and if it was better than the accord, camry, malibu, taurus whatever they say then wouldnt every person on your block have one

MOONiE2k6 3 years ago
sorry but the sonata is not more powerful than the camry

i love the new sonata, it has better quality than the volvos!! The S60 volvo for example has a tacky dash, the sonata is suberb!!
The grandeur (Azera) is even better. Sit in the back of a grandeur, its so comfortable, like a limo

hyundai is gonna be on top of the competition by 2011-2012 just wait and see!

The SONATA is better than the camry... is more powerful and is nicer!!
jrpa50 3 years ago
yeah.. this is about the sonata Genius!!!
DreamBoye 3 years ago
its definitely a step above where it used to be. Nice interior but the exterior kind or reminds me of an Oldsmobile now. I prefer the Camry SE or the Altima, which are better.

The blue back lit gauges are genius...who invented the ugly greyish green anyways?
davewhodavedunn 3 years ago
i got 26.97 imperial mpg (I-4)on a 2008, driving in city (no speeding, no abrupt launch or stop, lot of stop-n-go traffic). the air-conditioner was on 90% of the time!

only fools drive koreans, lacking in imagination, fools and stupid, this brand lacks souls, lack creed, lackbreed,im driving an alfa 159-10times better off, sonata are meant for cab drivers huhuhu
danielhashim 3 years ago
wow you have an alfa? dont thoughs depresiate in value rather quickly, souless? are you fucking kidding me, i guess anything from italy has soul....And i see no sonatas as cab cars.
disracenboi336 3 years ago 2
I own the 2009 Sonata GLS 5speed manual. It's a dream to drive, and it handles like the older Mercedes E Class (back when Mercedes used to make solid vehicles). It gets 23~25 in the city, and 32 hwy (with the manual). The interior is really. Can't beat the price either, $15500 + tax.
wolfman3k5 3 years ago
Amen, I buy it because it meets my driving needs whenever I'm driving within the law, warraty - best, milage-best, dependable-best, price-best... shall I go on. Yea, you can pay for a better handling machine but how often can you use those attributes in your daily slog? Oh yeah, you can pay for a wanna-be badge from Germany or Japan, not me I'll put that 10-20 g and go to Ger or Japan.

Do some homework online, Hyundai now rates equal to or better than Honda & Toyota for quality and they just replaced Honda for the 5th best selling automaker in the world. I'd post the links if youtube would let me.
