That seems to be a better kiln, did you need to burn as much wood as the first time to make the charcoal ?, a better fitting fire door might focus the heat better and reduce the amount of wood needed to make charcoual.
Ah yes, much improved. I burned probably 1/4 as much as the first time if that.
Later burns have produced 30 lbs of charcoal (I don't know what the beginning weight was) by burning less than 50lb of wood.
I have since added insulation to the front of the drum which has cut the burn time down to about 2 hours, and also have sealed the fire door there a bit better.
I agree that an insulated fire door would also improve, as would better, thicker insulation overall.
