I'm a old Japanese, born in Japan, raised in Japan,
but mixed with a German-Russian Jewish blood.
Though, I've never experienced such a discrimination.
Rather, I've been treated well.
Moreover the class leader of my junior high school was a quarter of a African American. He had been popular and been respected among class mates and teachers.
★A colour of skin is nothing problem in Japan, unless you behave badly.
How come there are no videos about stopping racism against the Japanese
I am sick of all these millions of videos hating on Japanese and hating on everything Japanese all the time, and defending every race but Japanese, and only attacking the Japanese race and no other race!
People complain that america is the most racist country in the world. When you see People in Europe, russia and east asia being racist assholes. The only least racist countries are America, Canada and the UK.
I'm an African-American man married to a Japanese woman who's been living in Japan for the past 2 years and I've been called "kurombo" (nigger in Japanese) so many times by older ppl. And every time I've had an issue with a younger Japanese person they've always included my Blackness, as well as my foreignness, in their insults of me. I've also seen many obviously stereotypical racist depictions of Black ppl on Japanese TV shows and shops (i.e. Sambo children books and blackface dolls).
@mooncooninc83 Sorry to hear that. The older generation can be such sticklers sometimes. But there's not much you can do about them. I've found the younger generation to be more accepting, but you're right, they insult you sometimes, even if it's not on purpose. I think they're trying to be kind, but they don't realize that their words are insulting when they're trying to relate to you, or make a comment about you being different. They're just not used to it. Island mentality...
@daiquirikiss When it's just Japanese naivety, I can tell. Like ppl coming up to me asking me if I rap, sing, or dance. But in situations were me and my other Black friends have been insulted by young ppl (mostly by young men for some reason) making remarks about our race on the JR, the racist intentions behind their statement was all too obvious. One of my Black friends actually punched a guy in the face on the JR, in Ebisu, for calling us stupid black monkeys in Japanese.
I sometimes feel the same. I know black intellectuals occasionally exist, but I still see most blacks as rappers and gangstas. And I think they're weird. They are sometimes friendly to Asians and whites, and they are sometimes not.
I find it very interesting that you chose to state that "black intellectuals OCCASIONALLY exist". And you went on to state that you "see most blacks as rappers and gangstas".
If you're a White person, to be honest, I'm not all surprised by your racist/White supremacist views regarding me and my ppl. However, if you're a so-called Asian...I suppose that you've just adopted a racist/White supremacist mindset to fit in with your White counterparts.
@mooncooninc83 but I'm glad you married a Japanese woman. It means you're not totally turned off by Japan's occasional ignorance towards foreigners. I say occasional because my foreign friends and I (all speak enough Japanese to have a good conversation) have had more good experiences than bad, especially in a country setting. The cities suck...
@daiquirikiss Yeah, my love for my wife is the only reason that I've been able to stay here and maintain my sanity thus far lol. And you're right, country folk, for whatever reason, seem to give me less problems. And because I wear my natural hair (I have freeform locs), they stare at me like you wouldn't believe lol! It's funny because, when I look back at them to smile, to break the ice, they're usually still in a state of shock and can't react normally lol!
@mooncooninc83 dont take it on bruh.same as it is over here in the states . the elders of the 40's and 50's will soon die out with there biggotry. and a new generation will whipe out there wrongs. if its too much over there just head to the northern mariana islands. : )
Sorry to say this but roppongy is the trash of tokyo. Too many stupid foreigners and bad people walking around there. Not that all are like that, but have met my fair share of idiots round there.
Like you said I get the stares a lot as I am an Australia (south American born) living in Japan. At first it bothered me but now if I want it to stop I wave at them and it's funny seeing their reaction.... they don't know what to do with themselves and just look away like shocked lol funny stuff :P
Never been to Japan, but I have been to other Asian countries. As a foreigner I got the stares, but I would say most are not negative stares..more like curiosity. I have brownish skin and I'm tall. Also I learned from some people that they may base certain prejudices due to what they see on television. I get more ugly stares in American than I did in Asia. I never felt threatened in Asia.
Thanks for the info! How easy is it to get around Japan if you don't know Japanese? I've always wanted to go just to see millions of people that are as short as I am! I am Mexican-American though so I don't know if that could be an issue sometimes?
@Yodasstuff As a tourist, not much is expected of you. So don't worry. Actually living in Japan is a bit more difficult. If you don't know any Japanese, you can get around, but it's much easier if you know at least a few common phrases. A lot of the signs are written in Japanese and English, so don't worry about that. Just remember that the names are phonetic (like Spanish) and don't have intonations.
@daiquirikiss One tip while travelling Japan: PLEASE no fat, half ton, camper backpacks. They're soooo annoying. And also, keep your voice/laughter level to a minimum. Loud talkers (especially in Kanto region) are seen as people who are stupid. No pictures in weird places (trains). Just do as the Romans do. Common mistakes I've seen tourists in Japan do.
I live there, my friend has lived there for 20 years still does and only recieved one incident of discrimination someone a lone person said go home! I have had so many Japanese people interested in gaijin foreign people. In Japanese culture people don't like to directly make eye contact. Hardly discrimination its curiosity. As for Rappongi or Kabukicho the African people there are pests and aggressive trying to get you into clubs. Also how would the police know your friend is muslem?
@seonidh They didn't know he's Muslim, but his complexion is tan and his face is like a mixture of southeast Asian and Middle East. Thick black eyebrows, a large nose...
How do you get a gaijin card or something? I want to live in Japan someday. I am still oblivious to how you are able to live there as a foreigner. Like you, how were you able to go Japan? What did you do?
@asdkjMawr gaijin card is my phrase for saying, "I took advantage of being a foreigner by using their expectations of me for my own gain." I went to Japan originally using a study abroad program in my college and did that two times. After graduating college, I got a job as an English teacher for public schools. Then I moved on to another job after 18 months of that.
@daiquirikiss I want to go for ALT myself whats the interview like you have to prepare a lesson is it an English one or any topic. Also are they severe in the interview process?
Oh god. racism exists, people. Japan is not the only country that has it. And guess what, it seems to work for them, cuz there seems to be a direct relationship between the amount of crime in Japan and the number of foreigners and foreign influences there.
On another note...STOP WORRYING AND THINKING ABOUT IT SO MUCH. It will only make you paranoid when you go to Japan. As a foreigner, you can never be accepted by the Japanese, so don't try. Soon, you'll wonder why you wanted to all.
Actually, I have never met a person who was really white, black, or yellow. In fact, the whole concept sounds really scary to me. LOL Anyway, I haven't experienced any discrimination in JP (I am Irish/Italian/American, but I have seen Americans who act like jerks treated badly. I mean the "Sugoi" "Otaku" types looking for Maid Cafes. What I have seen though is discrimination against mixed race Japanese and Koreans living in JP. All racism and discrimination is insane, but sho ga nai, eh?
i dont think i want to go to Japan anymore. Im a 5'10'' skinny white girl with light brown hair and green eyes. what if i need a room like you did and get turned away.
@bloodrebel1 If it happens, which it doesn't so much but it can, then look somewhere else. If you listen to the video carefully, I say discrimination happens... but like poohxbear says below, "This was pretty accurate, the middle age and older in particular will act extra grumpy and irritated by you if you look foreign." The younger generation are generally more interested in foreigners. Though they can be offensive when they mean to be complimenting you. It also depends on where in Japan...
@bloodrebel1 (part 2) ...you are. Like in Tokyo, they have a lot of foreigners. A lot of them are tourists. Tourists (no matter what country they're visiting) tend to be obnoxious, ignorant, and inconsiderate of other countries' cultures. So, people in Tokyo (like the older generation) can be grumpy to foreigners. But if you're in the country (not so many tourists) then the people are kinder, more open and friendly. More curious than anything. Same thing in Kansai area too. Friendly!!
This was pretty accurate, the middle age and older in particular will act extra grumpy and irritated by you if you look foreign.
young people will be interested but sometimes say things they mean as compliments that come off as racist "wow, i'm surprised you can use chopsticks!" I was there for 5 months and while I preferred living in the countryside the stares and the pointing were exhausting, when I came back to my very multi-cultural city in the California I felt like i could finally breath.
coolguy75100 why Japan, go2Africa com & and see were your ancestors came from, than you can check the rest of the World. Realistically, Japanese people are different from other Asian mongoloid group. Look at their faces, their eyes are bigger than the peal koreans or chinese and their men have a bigger head structure with 2 much hear. There r Russian & and increasing Asian population in Africa today...
@RussianRaina He is talking about the increasing African population in Tokyo. I think most of them are from Nigeria, but I could be wrong. Unlike most Japanese workers and people on the street, they will harass people walking past their stores or whatever to get them to go to their shady shops. In all my time in Japan I have never, EVER seen a Japanese native do that. Often they will just hand out fliers politely. I'm hoping Japanese Immigration kicks them out eventually. So rude, and base.
Now that the Japanese government has witnessed the pain of their own people, they should stop denying and start compensating the millions of families affected by their past brutal war crimes, including: forced labor, sex slavery and biological weapons testing on humans. My heart goes to the Japanese citizens in pain...because I have absolutely no sympathy for the war criminal Japanese government and royalty.
oh i remember some african (not USA an actual african) guy stopped me in the street in shinjuku i think it was, but anyway he tried to get me into a brothel or what ever it was. haha i was like wtf? an african working as a pimp in tokyo? wtf? lol so gross. but its awesome being young blonde and blue eyed guy in tokyo or anyware in asia, people are so nice to you. people just smile and are nice, so they like to look, i dont mind. i hate my fellow white people all i get from them is dirty looks
haha, yeah people always stare, its like that in hong kong & china. im used to it now. feel like a pop star, i kinda like it lol. i remember high school kids wanted to take a photo with me, so fun! theres a difference between japan and china though in japan people do quikly look away if you look back but in china they just keep staring, lol. but its better to be a butterfly than just another face in the crowd i think. but discrimination? i got nothing but smiles, you people are all crazy.
you know what is funny about what you say. it's not only Japanese that do those things. if you are a stranger. no matter where you go. you will have the same kind of people doing the same thing.did you talk to them? i bet not. because you feel that way, you probably showed it. to me, you are prejudice against them. takes two to tangle. you have youthful tunnel vision. i had people do that to me, and i am Japanese.i had white people rudely look me up and down. i can think the same as you.
oh, i see. so i guess it's the same like when my cousin who is Japanese could not get gas at a gas station on the mainland (US) because of the color of her skin. or when my cousin and her Chinese friend who has the last name lee who had a reservation at a prestigious restaurant and when they got there they were told that there wasn't anything open. or is it when these white guys made their eyes slant when they past my cousin and her friends in the car. is that what you are talking about?
damn japan must be realy that damn racist , you look like a japanese women i seriously dont know how any japanese person can be racist against you , but this will not stop me from moing to japan ,i am a very bright skined african american with curly hair , so things for me should not be as bad as your average dark skin person would probly experience , cuss i heard japan is extreemly racist against black people .
This vid is depressing but I'm grateful for you letting those of us who want to go to Japan know the truth of the situation. I love Japan and all but I have been afraid about if I really want to have a future there (I'm only 16 right now) since I'm Jamaican American so I already generally know the issues I'm going to be seeing if I do go. But I'm finally going next year but I'm going with a teacher and as far as I know, the people in the group are dark-skinned. How's that gonna be taken?
@iLuvAsiansMore Honestly, people with dark skin are difinitely facing more troubles than white people in most countries.japan is no exception, but i dont think it should be a problem if you really accept their cultures , love their cultures and do what they do.peraonally,i strongly suggest you stay in the USA where you are more likely to be accepted as a real american although its a "white"country.think it twice before you go to japan.let your teacher access your situation critically .
@iLuvAsiansMore anyway, you dont have to worry too much about the situation in japan.you can go back to the USA any time as you wish.GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR STUDY IN JAPAN.please have a nice day.
ive had horrible expiereinces in japan... i work for an airline.. so i fly there alot..one time i got kicked out a bar for NOT being japanese...i get lots of stares cause of my style... another time some drunken idiot in a shinjuku internet cafe wanted to fight me Just cause i was spanish! i cursed him out.. but i didnt fight him cause i know the police wouldnt believe me.. i got lost and noone helped me.. japan isnt all that
Living in Australia, people often drive pass me and yelled at me saying stuff like how much they hated me or my people even though they've never met me. And Companies with white people never hire Asian unless we sue their asses, white guys always steal Asian women and toying them around just to change their women and to make us looking like their play toys, white people are way more racist than any moving creature on this planet so get a hold of yourself you freak weeepo!!!
@Traces1000 what's a weeepo? And I'm sorry for being born half? Like I could help it and chose my parents... If you listened to my video more carefully, you would have noticed that I said generally discrimination happens in Japan. But it's not that bad as people make it. But no, you just listen to what you want to hear and call me a "racist sook." How in anyway am I racist to Asians? I'm half-Japanese, living in Japan, speaking Japanese with Japanese friends, working with Japanese everyday...
@Traces1000 Oh i see.. you don't know how to use your keyboard and you meant "weeaboo." Here I'll teach you: the "a" is right below the "q"... you see that? Then the "b" is above the space bar between the "v" and the "n". See? "weeaboo". Great! now you can type!! Yaaaaay!! Here's a cookie!
For your information... I don't watch anime, I hate most of j-pop, and I came to Japan because I am part Japanese. I wanted to learn about my family's history and their language. Got any more shallow insults?
@daiquirikiss I've been to Japan this past summer and i'm Black so I know what you mean when you get a lot of stares. The group I was with was mainly white, only me and a girl in the group were the only black students. In truth it was sort of hard for me to talk to any of the natives, it seemed more like they were afraid of me really. I love Japan, it's culture and it's media but it seems the Japanese only seem to see the bad side of Black people from media and never actual personal contact.
@KingArthur13th It depends on who's staring at you, but like I said, stares doesn't equal racism. They probably have never seen someone like you before or if they have, they're interested in you but too shy to say anything. So they just stare. Next time you're here, why not start a conversation with someone who's staring at you? You might get a positive response.
You white people are 1000% more racist than any other race on this entire planet!!! get a hold of yourself you sook!!!!
I'm living in Australia as an Asian and I've faced atleast 2000Xmore racism than what you've described to me!!! learn to shut yourself up you racist sook
You were probably stared at because they were trying to figure out if you were really Japanese or not. You look like you're half Japanese or something
Also, it's a law in Japan that you have to show your ID card if asked for by the police. It's not like in America or whatever. In Japan, it's a law, so that's why they apply it. If I'd be arrested and asked for my "Gaijin" card, I'd feel bad also, I'd feel they're discriminating against me. But when I know that it's the law, then I don't take it bad anymore.
Too many foreigners misunderstand the "stares" as racism. It's not racism. For example, so many foreigners think the Japanese are racist because they make it hard for foreigners to rent an apartment. But what's not often mentioned is that those foreigners do not speak Japanese, and there have been known cases of foreigners breaking contracts (knowingly or unknowingly) and not respecting agreements, and then they pulled out the language card as an excuse to them not respecting the rules.
@WorldOfSnakes So it's understandable that word spread out, and now it's hard for foreigners to find apartemnet in Japan. They just don't want trouble. Also, some poeple will avoid dealing with you, talking with you, interacting with you, etc. It's not racism. It's because the Japanese mentality is that they're uncomfortable, afraid, to interact with someone that doesn't speak their language. They're just not willing to deal with someone with whom they'll have so much trouble interacting.
@WorldOfSnakes In other cases, they might be afraid to talk to you or deal with you because they know their English isn't good.So they back off. Nothing racist there.Plus, some might avoid you on purpose because they heard about, or even encountered, some disrespectful or crazy foreigners. Word spreads out you know.Foreigners in Japan is a recent thing, so when those crazy foreigners do bad things there, this image stays in ppl's minds. So crazy foreigners can ruin it for you guys. No racism there.
I have been physically attacked till I saw blood, ever spit on, ever received life threat, etc., etc., - just can't write all of them - in Germany. No one really cared. Even someone u were there for at that time. So if you're unlucky or/and you are with a wrong person, such a shit can happen not only in Japan but anywhere, if you live there for a while.
Compared to most civilizations, Japanese society is very homogeneous. So if you look a little different, then you are some kind of attraction to them. In every other average sized city in the Western world you see people of all colors every minute of the day. Because Westerns are used to difference, they don't make a fuzz about it. Whereas in Japan you are some kind of zoo-attraction.
i dont understand, u look asian or japanese. are you sure your getting stared at, or you just going paranoid? your brain may think something when its totally not the case. like you said, its probably not discrimination, their just curious to see someone different, like foreigners. but anyways, you should care about that shit, its stupid, just live happy, be proud of who you are, walk around with some respect!
I'm currently living in a small city in America and I get stared all the time. It doesn't bother me at all, though. I'd live in a big city with lots of Asians if I really don't want to be stared.
that really sucks, that makes me not want to live in Japan anymore, because I never liked those type of looks even in America, and I would hate to get stopped by Police...
@magiib like I said, it happens... but it doesn't happen all the time. From my experience in Tokyo, you can meet real assholes there. However, I've now found that living in the country is a much nicer experience. The people here are so much more friendly.
Race mixing is wrong. Hybrids form their own race that competes with the original race. Dont expect either race to accept you. Just watching your videos I can tell you have a very anti white very pro multiculturalism attitude which equals death to someone like me who is a real real american. I'm sure you have aligned yourself with the jews, homosexual etc etc all the people who a piece of my country. keep on take away my rights. you have no idea how you have destroyed my life and my famlies lif
@soccermomization Be careful what you assert because your words will demonstrate your monstrous stupidity. "Hybrids" as you put it compose of about 75-90% of the worlds population and are especially prevalent in the USA and Canada. There are very few "pure" races anymore as quick survey on history will demonstrate. I suppose that I, a Salvadoran-Irish, should not have been conceived, nor should I have children with my Chinese fiancee. But her parents disagree..
@soccermomization Never heard such idiotism since I last time read about the crazy pinheads who ruled my beautiful country 70 years ago! Lunatics like you make me laugh! Are you even Chinese? xD
@soccermomization Are you Native Indian American? I very much doubt it. Your so-called country doesn't exist.....well only in your mind. The only folks who can sincerely talk about their presence in America are Native Indians & Black Americans, okay. So quit that crap that you spout about your so-called country, your family, rights etc.
I'm a typical looking white guy, and I have been stopped by police in Tokyo. And when I say stopped I mean I was waiting for the train to pull up when these two cops that looked like they were ready for war walked up and started questioning me. They had a little notepad where they wrote down all my info, and I was like 20th on the list.
I guess casually waiting for a train is illegal in Japan.
There is more discrimination in korea than japan. There is a race issue in korea that is worse than japan's. If your spanish, japanese, european, white american, your fine in both countries. If your black, indian, chinese you will face some problems. I know only from my expierence in japan and korea.I'am half peruvian and japanese fyi.
Please complain to previous visiters instead of JP people. There are so many crime been occuring by foreigners.. Those people were totally looking down Japan and as well as JP people. From my experience, I went to JP with my American friend and ends up I had to bail them out from jail. We stayed in JP for only 2 weeks, and they could involve such a stupid thing.. ur hotel expeience, I'm sorry to hear that but the hotel might had a bad experiences before.
Funny thing is that when people doesnt get what they want in other country, they start to claim "I'm being discriminated" Before say anything, ask yourself first.
Do I fully understand other's culture?
Do I respect other's/culture?
Do I speak other's language?
I've been in U.S. for 10years and yes, I've beeeeeen having hard time to live here but I admited that I'm "Alien" for U.S.
It's such a easy thing to complain but too bad you are not Japanese and I'm not American.
Paranoia. Anecotes are not facts. Most foreigners who bitch about racism here, imagine it. The police stop everybody. Love HOtels are NOT HOTELS. They are special places. You can't just stay there. That's why she knocked you back. Onsens are also special & traditional places, & some will knock you back. So what. Most Westerners here don't try to learn the language. Most guys I meet are chasing tail. Understanding comes with communication. A lot of "racism" is just communication breakdown.
@UberNoodleX I have been living in Japan for almost 10 years. I can't recall a single act of real racism towards me. ALL RENTERS are required to get a garrantee in order to sign a contract. Most foreigners can't get that. It's not discrimination. Foreigners in America run into the same kind of barriers. Many foreigners hear the word "gaijin" & assume racist intent. More often than not, the Japanese people using the word are guilty of nothing more than insensitivity. Usually they are elderly.
@UberNoodleX LIke I said, I have been here for a long time & my image of this place is not that it's racist. Is it ideal for a foreigner? No, it isn't. Name a single country, where the laws of which do NOT make it hard for foreigners. There are none. Japan is a culture where there taboos, & times to do and not do things. So many visitors overstep & the Japanese lack the means to communicate the problem. In those cases, it comes off as mean or racist. Foreigners need to appreciate Japan's case.
@UberNoodleX Japan is largely monocultural. She has her problems, & racism is one of them. Yet, racism abounds in countries known for being multicultural. Why make such cases appear as the entirety of the culture. Understanding comes from communication. Those foreigners who respect & love Japan, her language & her people, are rewarded with kindness & openess. But OF COURSE, there are racists here! But Japan IS NOT a post colonial multiculture. Try getting by in the USA without English.
@UberNoodleX The Japanese are prone to directness, such as "gaijin", but it's due to a general lack of awareness. Japan hasn't had internal race conflict, & therefore non of the ingrained fear of racism that the USA has. The USA today is a great multiculture, BECAUSE it suffered so long from racism. It learned. Many Japanese are just naive. Some try to protect foreigners from embarrassment ("Oh you wouldn't understand that", "here have a fork"). Trust me. It's usually not mean spirited at all.
I guess there are some discriminations towards to foreigner in Japan. However, I have a question to her and to all the other foreigners. Do you speak English to elder people who speak no English. I often hear complains from my American friends or none JP speakers that how come Japanese people in Japan dont speak English. How about I say how come American people in U.S. dont speak Japanese. How come stranger suddenly talking to me? I dont even know him/her and its creepy. Cultural diff though.
When I was in Shikoku, they stared at me as I walked down the street. At first I was freaked out (I am American, have light skin brown hair and green eyes). But then I realized they were just staring at me because I was the first non-Japanese person they'd ever seen or the first they'd seen in several years. They were curious about why I was there, and I don't blame them. I would be curious too if someone different from everyone I'd ever seen was there. I got used to it. They weren't rude.
@Gekkouka15 it can happen... but it happens in every country, I'm sure. Japan's definitely one of the more conservative countries. However, I've heard Korea is much worse. In Japan, it's common to see a Japanese woman dating a foreign man (the cool thing to do). In Korea, even that is frowned upon. People complain about not being let into onsen here etc... but in Korea they're much more discriminatory.
@daiquirikiss Oh i see,but one think i can't understand the most about japanese...How can they differentiate between a half-japanese,Korean,or even southeast asians people there?
Seriously, even here in malaysia we can't even differentiate our self between chinese or Japanese? even though we have been a multicultural country and its So hard to tell the differents sometimes =__=
@daiquirikiss just a little bit a clarity. It's not frowned upon in Korea to date a foreigner, unless they are African or from Southeast Asia. At least that is the general rule of thumb I have gotten from Korean girls I know. Is it bad? Yeah it sucks, but unfortunately there is not much that can be done. However, the girls I know do wish it were different so there is hope. Also in Korea, girls LOVE westerners, much like Japan. Thanks for your time
@Divinecovenant0012 Thanks for the clarification. I heard it from a friend who's studying there right now. It was his opinion (having experience with Japan and Korea) that people complain too much about Japan when it's worse in Korea. I haven't been to Korea, but I do know a few from college. I do love my friends from Korea. I'm wanting to visit next year too. I trust his opinion for the country as a whole, but I can't say I can prove it from my own experience.
@daiquirikiss From my understanding it's worst in China. My fiancée is Han Chinese from a province called Hubei and she has taken some heat from people for deciding to marry me. There are internet hate forums in China specifically dedicated to women that marry foreigners. When we go to a Chinese restaurant we are sometimes stared at angrily by older people. But even then it's regional. Places like Shanghai and Beijing are very open to mixing of races but in rural places it's still frowned upon
great vid...i was going to study abroad in japan for my phyics degree...maybe i'm better off going to germany...dont know if i like that kind of thing.
I heard that if you are with other japanese people, instance of being discriminated agianst are less likely to happen...is that true?
even japanese who can`t be cooperative are hated by japanese. and some guys think it`s discrimination when they are not cooperative and treated like that. i have american friends but they say it`s not big deal compared to US. it happens everywhere. btw i hope u are doing well in japan.
Take it easy baby! There are many night clubs which are owned by Nigerians cheating customers and workers are not rare. Many of them have been accuse to police actually. Often they sell drags, that's why police officers are nervous especially when young ladies are accompanied by black people. It is a discrimination, but black people must blame Nigerians. By the way, you look like uptown girl, if you try to find Japanese friend from this criteria, it would be easier to communicate with.
@UltrakupraRebirth its because the japanese respect people and they want to learn about their language, thats not disrespectful! all u people are wrong about the japanaese!
I've wanted to ask a girl who has been to Japan and is foreign about the sexual stuff. I've heard that there are some pervy guys over there and I wondered what you're encounters with sexual harrassment were if any?
@GreenTaurosGuy Most of the perv guys I found were in Tokyo. I don't meet them in the country. I have encountered some though! I encountered a chikan (pervert who grabs women) on the train who tried to grab me. I've found a guy who liked to watch women pee. A friend came out of a public toilet and said he found a pair of boxers and a dirty comic book there. A guy snuck into our guest house in Kanagawa and stole dirty tampons/pads from the girls' rooms.... yep... it happens.
@GreenTaurosGuy Yes, there are perverts. Probably because Japanese girls find out perverts from their expression and the way of speaking, they seem to have a tendency to approach foreigners, especially white girl. Only way to avoid them is to observe Japanese girls expression toward guys. If he has popularity among Japanese girls, he should be fine.
@KillaKlump It all depends on you. If you behave as a teacher, you are treated as a teacher. Sounds stupid but this is it. You don't need to afraid If you can behave and speak like an ordinary Canadian. They are popular for being honest I think
yeah, discrimination is everywhere. in france i get stoped by the police everytime they see me, its fucking insane, and the people also look at me strange. im white you know but i think they dont like my face or something, i dont give a shit.
I've been told the Japanese people hate us, but they also want to "be us" Why is their manga/anime always drawings of Caucasian people and never Japanese people, or their hero's in their video games (Cloud, Squall, Titus etc.) and they really like Western musical instruments like the piano? They really like living a Western lifestyle......but they hate us. Don't get mad at me for this. It is just what I have heard.
I'm 13 and a white (actually really really pale :/ ) Australian. I'm thinking about going to Japan with a sister city programme next year, I work very very VERY hard on my Japanese language and I am so interested in their culture.
Did you try to enter the love hotel alone? If that is the case, it is no surprise they didn't let you in. They never let singles in because of too many cases suicides and other bad things happening.
Usually love hotels are set up so the staff member doesn't even talk to you. There is just a little slot in the wall to pass the money through.
thanks for all the help, for me, It was rough for me to get some great stops when I lived in Okinawa
I believe you, Im Full mexican, and live in okinawa for all my life, and speak well in Japanese and Okinawan, and they discriminate m from that soo much
japaneses are intolerant bastards and fascists, I hate this monkeys land! japan - land of barbarous!
I am not racist, I like koreans and chinese to, I like Afrika and afrikaner so much, they are my friends.. but japan - is stupid country of criminal yellow racists and stupid bastards.
You call Japan " monkey's land" and Japanese as "criminal yellow racists" and you consider yourself not racist? Wow you have one big arrogant twisted brain.
I have korean and chinese friends too and I certainly don't have any problem with people from Africa. But one thing for sure, I don't like YOU! YOU, fucking ignorant racist prick!
@NordgerHingst no. you think japanese are racists? COME TO AMERICA MAN. but no seriously, get over it man. its people like you that hold a grudge against us japanese which eventually leads into war, or a fight of some sort. and if you actually look up statistics of japan's rape, murder, robbery/theft, violence and serious assault rate, you'll find that its much lower and korea is higher. im not saying that korea is bad, cuz i have korean friends, but they dont look at the negative side of japan.
@TwistMySplenePlease japan is the country of biggest racists and fascists. your statistic is wrong and speculativ. All white peoples, who I know, and chineses, koreans talk about japan that.
This land is intolerant and not democratic. The biggest discrimination.
I think, all japan cultur is intolerant and totalitar.
In war is japan for nazis, and that is not surprise. This yellow anti-liberal country taked medical experiments AT WHITE HUMANS and CHINESES! (squadron 731 and squadron 100).

if you look diffrent from them,it 's natural people see you.
this is not discrimination.you're misunderstanding with this.
you dont seem Japanese actually, but you dont seem American too.
and if you feel dicriminated from people in japan,it cause language problem.

selfdedication 2 weeks ago
>>5. You may be stopped by the police,,,
This is sometimes true, but not always.
And it can't be helped.
Because many crimes in Japan have been done by foreigners.
It is not Japanese fault but foreigner's fault.
Of course, it has nothing to do with discrimination and racism.
★Rather, counter-discrimination of foreigners are becomming a problem in Japan, now
because Japanese are treating foreigners warmly too much
and giving a privileges for them too much , especially for Koreans and Chinese.
SamuraiTogo 3 months ago
>>4 ,,, from the older generation.
No, you are misunderstanding about this point
I'm a old Japanese, born in Japan, raised in Japan,
but mixed with a German-Russian Jewish blood.
Though, I've never experienced such a discrimination.
Rather, I've been treated well.
Moreover the class leader of my junior high school was a quarter of a African American. He had been popular and been respected among class mates and teachers.
★A colour of skin is nothing problem in Japan, unless you behave badly.

I am sick of all these millions of videos hating on Japanese and hating on everything Japanese all the time, and defending every race but Japanese, and only attacking the Japanese race and no other race!

Sambo children books and blackface dolls).
mooncooninc83 7 months ago
@mooncooninc83 Sorry to hear that. The older generation can be such sticklers sometimes. But there's not much you can do about them. I've found the younger generation to be more accepting, but you're right, they insult you sometimes, even if it's not on purpose. I think they're trying to be kind, but they don't realize that their words are insulting when they're trying to relate to you, or make a comment about you being different. They're just not used to it. Island mentality...
daiquirikiss 7 months ago
@daiquirikiss When it's just Japanese naivety, I can tell. Like ppl coming up to me asking me if I rap, sing, or dance. But in situations were me and my other Black friends have been insulted by young ppl (mostly by young men for some reason) making remarks about our race on the JR, the racist intentions behind their statement was all too obvious. One of my Black friends actually punched a guy in the face on the JR, in Ebisu, for calling us stupid black monkeys in Japanese.
mooncooninc83 7 months ago
@mooncooninc83
I sometimes feel the same. I know black intellectuals occasionally exist, but I still see most blacks as rappers and gangstas. And I think they're weird. They are sometimes friendly to Asians and whites, and they are sometimes not.
Weird.
SeventhSun 5 months ago
@SeventhSun
However, if you're a so-called Asian...I suppose that you've just adopted a racist/White supremacist mindset to fit in with your White counterparts.
mooncooninc83 5 months ago
@mooncooninc83 but I'm glad you married a Japanese woman. It means you're not totally turned off by Japan's occasional ignorance towards foreigners. I say occasional because my foreign friends and I (all speak enough Japanese to have a good conversation) have had more good experiences than bad, especially in a country setting. The cities suck...

@daiquirikiss Yeah, my love for my wife is the only reason that I've been able to stay here and maintain my sanity thus far lol. It's funny because, when I look back at them to smile, to break the ice, they're usually still in a state of shock and can't react normally lol!

Yodasstuff 8 months ago
@Yodasstuff As a tourist, not much is expected of you. So don't worry. Actually living in Japan is a bit more difficult. If you don't know any Japanese, you can get around, but it's much easier if you know at least a few common phrases. A lot of the signs are written in Japanese and English, so don't worry about that. Just remember that the names are phonetic (like Spanish) and don't have intonations.
daiquirikiss 8 months ago
@daiquirikiss One tip while travelling Japan: PLEASE no fat, half ton, camper backpacks. They're soooo annoying. And also, keep your voice/laughter level to a minimum. Loud talkers (especially in Kanto region) are seen as people who are stupid. No pictures in weird places (trains). Just do as the Romans do. Common mistakes I've seen tourists in Japan do.
daiquirikiss 8 months ago
I live there, my friend has lived there for 20 years still does and only recieved one incident of discrimination someone a lone person said go home! I have had so many Japanese people interested in gaijin foreign people. In Japanese culture people don't like to directly make eye contact. Hardly discrimination its curiosity. As for Rappongi or Kabukicho the African people there are pests and aggressive trying to get you into clubs. Also how would the police know your friend is muslem?

@asdkjMawr gaijin card is my phrase for saying, "I took advantage of being a foreigner by using their expectations of me for my own gain." Then I moved on to another job after 18 months of that.

Oh god. racism exists, people.

It also depends on where in Japan...
daiquirikiss 9 months ago
@bloodrebel1 (part 2) ...you are. Like in Tokyo, they have a lot of foreigners. A lot of them are tourists. Tourists (no matter what country they're visiting) tend to be obnoxious, ignorant, and inconsiderate of other countries' cultures. So, people in Tokyo (like the older generation) can be grumpy to foreigners. But if you're in the country (not so many tourists) then the people are kinder, more open and friendly. More curious than anything. Same thing in Kansai area too. Friendly!!

WorldOfSnakes 1 year ago
Too many foreigners misunderstand the "stares" as racism. It's not racism. For example, so many foreigners think the Japanese are racist because they make it hard for foreigners to rent an apartment. But what's not often mentioned is that those foreigners do not speak Japanese, and there have been known cases of foreigners breaking contracts (knowingly or unknowingly) and not respecting agreements, and then they pulled out the language card as an excuse to them not respecting the rules.
WorldOfSnakes 1 year ago
@WorldOfSnakes So it's understandable that word spread out, and now it's hard for foreigners to find apartemnet in Japan. They just don't want trouble. Also, some poeple will avoid dealing with you, talking with you, interacting with you, etc. It's not racism. It's because the Japanese mentality is that they're uncomfortable, afraid, to interact with someone that doesn't speak their language. They're just not willing to deal with someone with whom they'll have so much trouble interacting.
WorldOfSnakes 1 year ago
@WorldOfSnakes In other cases, they might be afraid to talk to you or deal with you because they know their English isn't good.So they back off. Nothing racist there.Plus, some might avoid you on purpose because they heard about, or even encountered, some disrespectful or crazy foreigners. Word spreads out you know.Foreigners in Japan is a recent thing, so when those crazy foreigners do bad things there, this image stays in ppl's minds. So crazy foreigners can ruin it for you guys. No racism there.
WorldOfSnakes 1 year ago
Your being half japanese, ALMOST CERTAINLY effects how "racism" applies to you.

I'm sure you have aligned yourself with the jews, homosexual etc etc all the people who a piece of my country. keep on take away my rights. you have no idea how you have destroyed my life and my famlies lif
soccermomization 1 year ago
@soccermomization Be careful what you assert because your words will demonstrate your monstrous stupidity. "Hybrids" as you put it compose of about 75-90% of the worlds population and are especially prevalent in the USA and Canada. There are very few "pure" races anymore as quick survey on history will demonstrate. I suppose that I, a Salvadoran-Irish, should not have been conceived, nor should I have children with my Chinese fiancee. But her parents disagree..

It's such a easy thing to complain but too bad you are not Japanese and I'm not American.
arkitec000 1 year ago
UberNoodleX 1 year ago
@UberNoodleX I have been living in Japan for almost 10 years. I can't recall a single act of real racism towards me. ALL RENTERS are required to get a garrantee in order to sign a contract. Most foreigners can't get that. It's not discrimination. Foreigners in America run into the same kind of barriers. Many foreigners hear the word "gaijin" & assume racist intent. More often than not, the Japanese people using the word are guilty of nothing more than insensitivity. Usually they are elderly.
UberNoodleX 1 year ago 2
@UberNoodleX LIke I said, I have been here for a long time & my image of this place is not that it's racist. Is it ideal for a foreigner? No, it isn't. Name a single country, where the laws of which do NOT make it hard for foreigners. There are none. Japan is a culture where there taboos, & times to do and not do things. So many visitors overstep & the Japanese lack the means to communicate the problem. In those cases, it comes off as mean or racist. Foreigners need to appreciate Japan's case.
UberNoodleX 1 year ago
@UberNoodleX Japan is largely monocultural. She has her problems, & racism is one of them. Yet, racism abounds in countries known for being multicultural. Why make such cases appear as the entirety of the culture. Understanding comes from communication. Those foreigners who respect & love Japan, her language & her people, are rewarded with kindness & openess. But OF COURSE, there are racists here! But Japan IS NOT a post colonial multiculture. Try getting by in the USA without English.
UberNoodleX 1 year ago
@UberNoodleX The Japanese are prone to directness, such as "gaijin", but it's due to a general lack of awareness. Japan hasn't had internal race conflict, & therefore non of the ingrained fear of racism that the USA has. The USA today is a great multiculture, BECAUSE it suffered so long from racism. It learned. Many Japanese are just naive. Some try to protect foreigners from embarrassment ("Oh you wouldn't understand that", "here have a fork"). Trust me. It's usually not mean spirited at all.
UberNoodleX 1 year ago
I guess there are some discriminations towards to foreigner in Japan. However, I have a question to her and to all the other foreigners. Do you speak English to elder people who speak no English. I often hear complains from my American friends or none JP speakers that how come Japanese people in Japan dont speak English. How about I say how come American people in U.S. dont speak Japanese. How come stranger suddenly talking to me? I dont even know him/her and its creepy. Cultural diff though.
arkitec000 1 year ago
When I was in Shikoku, they stared at me as I walked down the street. At first I was freaked out (I am American, have light skin brown hair and green eyes). But then I realized they were just staring at me because I was the first non-Japanese person they'd ever seen or the first they'd seen in several years. They were curious about why I was there, and I don't blame them. I would be curious too if someone different from everyone I'd ever seen was there. I got used to it. They weren't rude.

I never thought japanese were so racist...even though you are half Japanese??
Gekkouka15 1 year ago
@Gekkouka15 it can happen... but it happens in every country, I'm sure. Japan's definitely one of the more conservative countries. However, I've heard Korea is much worse. In Japan, it's common to see a Japanese woman dating a foreign man (the cool thing to do). In Korea, even that is frowned upon. People complain about not being let into onsen here etc... but in Korea they're much more discriminatory.
daiquirikiss 1 year ago
@daiquirikiss Oh i see,but one think i can't understand the most about japanese...How can they differentiate between a half-japanese,Korean,or even southeast asians people there?
Seriously, even here in malaysia we can't even differentiate our self between chinese or Japanese? even though we have been a multicultural country and its So hard to tell the differents sometimes =__=
Gekkouka15 1 year ago
@daiquirikiss just a little bit a clarity. It's not frowned upon in Korea to date a foreigner, unless they are African or from Southeast Asia. At least that is the general rule of thumb I have gotten from Korean girls I know. Is it bad? Yeah it sucks, but unfortunately there is not much that can be done. However, the girls I know do wish it were different so there is hope. Also in Korea, girls LOVE westerners, much like Japan. Thanks for your time
Divinecovenant0012 1 year ago
@Divinecovenant0012 Thanks for the clarification. I heard it from a friend who's studying there right now. It was his opinion (having experience with Japan and Korea) that people complain too much about Japan when it's worse in Korea. I haven't been to Korea, but I do know a few from college. I do love my friends from Korea. I'm wanting to visit next year too. I trust his opinion for the country as a whole, but I can't say I can prove it from my own experience.
daiquirikiss 1 year ago
@daiquirikiss From my understanding it's worst in China. My fiancée is Han Chinese from a province called Hubei and she has taken some heat from people for deciding to marry me. There are internet hate forums in China specifically dedicated to women that marry foreigners. When we go to a Chinese restaurant we are sometimes stared at angrily by older people. But even then it's regional. Places like Shanghai and Beijing are very open to mixing of races but in rural places it's still frowned upon

I've wanted to ask a girl who has been to Japan and is foreign about the sexual stuff. I've heard that there are some pervy guys over there and I wondered what you're encounters with sexual harrassment were if any?
GreenTaurosGuy 1 year ago
@GreenTaurosGuy Most of the perv guys I found were in Tokyo. I don't meet them in the country. I have encountered some though! I encountered a chikan (pervert who grabs women) on the train who tried to grab me. I've found a guy who liked to watch women pee. A friend came out of a public toilet and said he found a pair of boxers and a dirty comic book there. A guy snuck into our guest house in Kanagawa and stole dirty tampons/pads from the girls' rooms.... yep... it happens.
daiquirikiss 1 year ago
@GreenTaurosGuy Yes, there are perverts. Probably because Japanese girls find out perverts from their expression and the way of speaking, they seem to have a tendency to approach foreigners, especially white girl. Only way to avoid them is to observe Japanese girls expression toward guys. If he has popularity among Japanese girls, he should be fine.
