  • omg. I want one!

  • so where do i buy one?????

  • Are there any plans for a Reactogon iPad app?

  • I don't know much about this shit but from 1:50 the sound starts getting nice

  • all arcades of the future should look and sound just like this. in fact. this. merged with laser quest/columns AND virtua racing in like 5 dimensions. do it!!

  • looks hard to use.. but also looks like alot of fun

  • 2:28 that is one bad ass riff!

  • @LeisureCentury Good luck trying to resist it

  • when i first watched ths video 4 years ago i thought it was so hightech... now with the ipad2 this looks like it was made by the cavemen

  • Now all they need to do is make the display polymorphic, so that the features/ buttons have volume. i.e. it would be more touchable. That, or a sort of pipe organ arrangement of hexagonal holograms

  • This thing is Awesome!!!!

  • sounds like tron

  • Very cool!

  • lol this is shit

  • Where can I buy one of these??

  • @EAGangstad

    Iḿ interested in it too.

  • whys it so big

  • The Daft Punk would KILL for such device :D

  • @Arraxis Lo or Deadmau5

  • Future DJ system?

  • @nejex461

Yeah, I can see how this interface could easily adapt to the demands of a DJ - but I think it'll most likely find a place in studios & on stage first; as it allows for (almost) "real-time" programming of complex arpeggios (etc) during a performance many keyboards lack.

Personaly, I'd love to have one ;-)

I can also see it making a good basis for a lights/graphics controller in the light-shows that help 'make' a stage performance - it'd also work well in this role for nightclubs too

    :-)

  • i think bioware used this think to creat the mass effect songs

  • chuck norris really hate this table...he will kick this table from new york to berlin if this thing played in front of him

  • Where can I get the last track in full? It's just AWESOME!!!

  • Latency..... ass! lagga inte runt! idiot!

  • that thing is fucking huge!!!!!

  • nice.. i like the end

  • dude this is sooo cooool i wanna hook this up to reason

  • I made it.

  • I don't know whether it succeeds, anyway I'm trying to make this in Flash.

This is very simple but coolest thing I've been ever saw.

  • @Parkjimin950521 problem with flash is it doesn't support midi midi:/ or does it?

  • @MubangaDNB Yes. I think that flash doesn't support midi. So I imported part of scales (≒70 sounds) and used it. Using SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA is much better, because then I can make real 'synthesizer', but I failed to use it. :(

  • useless .. ..boring ... 3:45 omg ... :S

  • Where can i get more information on this?

  • cool! digi musical art!!!

  • Brilliant! Looks expensive but that's the coolest controller I ever seen...

  • i want this!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man, if I had such a "toy", I'd be toying my life away.

Fucking creative! That's a thumbs up!

  • at 1:48 i use this sound for my cellphone ring, so cool

  • a devilishly clever musical version of the interminable Colditz board game from the '70's :)

  • Is it the future already

  • I find myself oddly desirous to own such a thing. Though I'd honestly settle for a nice software simulation. (Extra points if it runs as a VST in Your Favourite DAW(tm).)

  • i dont get it. Although, its still fun to watch.

  • sweet ;O

  • If you write this comment 3 times in the next 24 hours, you will get a free banana but if you don't, you will be eated by a giant banana in 2 months

  • biballa

  • no se pasa pero esta bien

  • That's pretty crazy

  • 3:05 NICE 1!

  • This is amazing!Good work.

  • This looks like so much fun!

  • A 21st century way to produce 20th century 8-bit music. I can tell the amount of work put into it and maybe its potential, but it still seems like a novelty invention at best.

  • look @ pages 5 6 and 7

  • interssting instrument

  • 2:26 sounds like 80's

  • > I made one (virtually) with RunRev : search "exagofon" on YouTube

  • This is fantabulous, My son would have a ball with this, making music. Looks like something that could be used to bring, "Total Sound Resonance," to help awaken the masses. WOW truly. Thanks to the Special Being for sharing this with me, too. <3 to all.

  • the music it makes sounds kinda gay

  • Reminds me of Mass Effect!

  • fucking mad 2007 multi touch ready.. awsome

  • should've been called reacxagon :P

  • Trippieeee~

  • This thing rules!Where is the website of the publisher?I want to buy this crazyness even tho i dont need it ^^

  • i want one!!! that shit is sick!!!

  • Wow that machine is sick!

  • a whole new era of video game music!!

well... the same music just made different.....yea...?

  • lolocaust1337 sums up the entire ADD-generation mindset in a single comment!

  • I definitely don't want one. What would you do with it once you're bored?

  • I just love 3:12 on...

  • that would be one fun after noon playing on one :P

  • you could make a cool software with this iedia :D

  • Jordan Rudess should get one, if he doesn't have it already.

  • LoL, I could see him playing a sick beverly hills cops remix on this

  • I want one. Where can I buy it

  • awesome, the last beat was wicked

  • why do people get into arguments through youtube video comments that are paragraphs long and last for multiple pages?

    i never understood this.

  • @hooniecheeb the are lonely

  • @hooniecheeb Because there is a whole mail/messaging system on youtube... for better or worse, I guess. There is probably something more to it, like either a large subset of the population is stupid as sin, distracted in some way or something, or there is a deeper psychological need that it somehow the bickering satisfies. Im probably going to co with the crazy one...

Ill leave it to you to determine what that means.

    Lol

  • @hooniecheeb youtube is too pussy to just make it so that you can type with more charecters havent you noticed that?

  • I want one.

  • Looks like fun. That last setup has a loop that terminates after 3 cycles. There must be some sort of counter token.

  • I'd say that you could assign it to automatically restart the loops after say 4 or 8 beats.

  • 1:48 - 2:00 sounds like something from VnV Nation

  • that's just stupid FRESH!

    nice job!

  • nice (pronounced as 'noise') 5*

  • omfg this is amazing !

  • And again, like I said, you're complaining about the SOUND on a video that is about SEQUENCING!!! If you want to hear nice pretty composed pieces then don't search for things like "chain reactive performance arpeggiator" as you're not going to get it... duuuh.... either give the guy some credit for a pretty amazing technical piece of work that he has done (notice I didn't say an amazing musical piece?) or piss off...

  • cool cool

  • What ever happened to the violin viola cello double bass and piano . Music became just a game to everyone?

  • For one thing, maybe before you try to sound intelligent, you should do a quick spell check and grammar check.

This arpeggiator uses a pretty complex system that utilizes music theory (a harmonic table) and combines it with a very experimental system of using the harmonic table. It is anything but a game.

Who is to say that synthesizers have less meaning in music than instruments such as violins? Violins take a lot of skill to play.

  • Or, how about you try to teach me music? I bet you can't teach me anything either. I'm pretty stupid.

  • What is wrong with simply skipping learning how to play an instrument and composing music?

  • i do agree that there are electronic controllers and instruments these days, but i don't get the "game" part...

  • why is it called "reactogon" when it's made of hexagons?

Beautiful machine, could end up being really useful for teaching theory.

  • cuz of how those pieces were were making the notes react in different ways

  • how much?

  • yeah how much would this set me back XD

  • That thing is . . HUGE!!

  • ...thats what... she said...?

  • @GreyNoises

    yes, every time! lol!

  • haha. good.

  • Wow! Reactable is evolving!

I would love to see how far it goes ten years from now

  • where can yo get this is it amasing!!!

  • id love to have one of these if hypotheticly none of my mates had heard of the reactable xD

  • What crazy sumbitch made this contraption?

And how many thousands of dollars does it cost?

  • powerfull.

  • SOUND MIRRACLE

  • This is GORGEOUS!

    Well done.

Where can I get to play one?

    :)

  • I want one!

  • amazing. i used to dream about something like this.

  • ein zeugs gibts ey =)

  • I want one

  • Good tool for DJs :-)

  • lol.. what's a DJ gonna do with an arpeggiator? I mean besides FAIL

  • @ cartesiaLive

I agree. I admire your critical stance. The primary function of such 'musical' (they're more visual to me) devices should be that of helping musicians making interesting music, not monotonous melodic structures in some flashing surface. I've only seen 1 good use of the reactable in a Bjork video, everything else looks so lame.

  • So all devices should be designed at aiding the musical thought process? Why? Why not have something that approaches creativity from a different angle? It may be more random than it is creative but if this helps you come up with sequences of notes that you wouldn't have otherwise thought about then surely it has served a purpose? This sort of music making really appeals to me, and if you're skilled then the outcome isn't monotonous. By the way, the reactable is something completely different.

  • random=bad

  • Comment=pointless

  • Well, no - the... 'reactogon' (terrible name) will not make you come up with.. "never imagined before" sequences of notes (sounds like a silly advert to me, the way you put it). But even then, what will make you come up with interesting sequences of notes (if you're SO desparate about them) is... guess what... your brain. Surprise!!

  • You don't really get it, do you? It's meant to be aleatoric, it's not meant to be a composition aid. The use of the harmonic table in this hardware means that adjacent hexagons will be in equal intervals (so in one direction you might get 5ths, another direction 3rds, and so on). It isn't design for composers.

Your comment is like complaining that a cow is useless because it doesn't yield wool...

  • Oh, and I never said "never imagined before" in my previous comment, I said "sequences of notes that you wouldn't have otherwise thought about".

Your trained brain tends to stick to melodic norms and this is a great way of making up tunes that don't just use a minor/major/penatonic scale. It is actually a very creative device.

Unless you're claiming to have already imagined every possible combination of sequences are you?

  • Also, no - not *all* (you're an 'all-or-nothing' kind of person? that's sad!) devices should be designed towards aiding the musical thought process. For instance: the kettle; the hoover; the AM radio; and the airplane - they are all devices that were built for a non-musical function. But to my (and John Cage's) ears, they sound oh so pleasing, contrary to this reactogon business, which is meant to sound... ffffun. But.. what..?

where is bill hicks when you need him

  • Now you're just being pedantic because you haven't really got an argument. Nobody said you had to like it, just don't go making up invalid arguments because you don't like the musical outcome.

  • But that's what you're failing to grasp, just like the majority of debaters on youtube: I don't have to have an argument! I'm not even trying to convince you about my stance or 'win the debate'. The reactogon does not give me the goosebumps, the AM radio, especially around 6000 Hz, does. End of story.

  • Well you WERE arguing the toss - just go back and read your statements incase you forgot. If it was purely opinion then maybe you should have stated that to begin with instead of expressing you opinions as fact? And then maybe people wouldn't debate with you, which you seem to love doing so much anyway (I've seen your comments on other videos). By the way, calling me 'sad' was uncalled for, I never insulted you. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't do it in real life, so why on the internet?

  • Hold on a sec

"Your trained brain tends to stick to melodic norms and this is a great way of making up tunes that don't just use a minor/major/penatonic scale."

WHAT!! Xenakis, John Cage, Stockhausen have all had musical training of some sort, and were making aleatoric/chance music of the finest quality! Without the need for a reacmaTron! So you're saying that their 'trained' brains were actually *stuck* and needed a reactogon to save them from their musical impasse and pentatonic scales.

  • You're clearly trying to divert the argument here as you've made several stupid statements. Anyway, I thought you weren't arguing? :D

  • and no, once again you are misinterpreting what I say. I never said this was the only way to make aleatoric music, you're twisting my words (and I suspect you know this & grasping at straws). There are plenty of ways, I should know I'm doing a dissertation on it... if you're interested then go look up genetic algorithms, markov chains, and petri nets and maybe we could have a proper discussion rather than this pathetic debate about semantics you've wound us up in.

  • Well, your replies and thought are expressed by an 'all-or-nothing' attitude, several invalid syllogisms, and some contradiction, hence the 'semantic' approach of my own responses.

Apart from that, we differ on this: I talk about what's good to my ears and helpful in making proper music (not monotonous repetition - the reactogon is not even aleatoric you idiot! Listen to the video again!). You talk about what's good as a process and helpful towards programming a patch. See the difference?

  • I never mentioned programming a patch. If this is merely an art piece or even a game it is still a valid musical device, whether it makes you "piss your pants" (oh dear) or not... again, can I use the term 'fuckwit'? Ooops, I just did....

  • Yadda yadda. After losing all hope of 'winning the debate' that *you* started, you now adopt the tactic of insulting. Poor boy.. To use your own words, "you wouldn't do that in real life, would you?"

Yes, it is a valid musical device, as you say. But I'm also talking from a personal standpoint and experience: i can't hear an inspiring demo, and I can't see great musical potential - that's my opinion. Which returns us back to my very first comment. Case closed.

  • Nope, if you go back and look at your first comment you made a statement, not an opinion. You, of all people - arguing about semantics should realise your error there...

and yes, if you called me an idiot to my face, not only would I call you a fuckwit, I'd knock you clean out...

going around in circles is the only thing you seem to be able to do, rather than admitting your mistake, not being pig headed, and moving on to a more sensible discussion. "Yadda yadda"

  • By the way I've looked at your other posts and noticed a pattern of this sort of behaviour. Do you think all of these people are at fault, or do you maybe think you're a complete bell-end?

  • Awaiting your oh-so intelligent response about how something else I have said could be misinterpreted. Is that what you spend your time doing? - rearranging people's sentences so that you can claim that they are some sort of idiot? I noticed you did it in response to other people's posts on other videos too. I think it's hilarious how arrogant you are, I bet you don't get out much...

  • You need to understand that I'm mainly interested in good music - you can keep talking about i ching tables, markov chains of the second order, Max/MSP patches, probability theory as much as you like (you just fancy showing off with technicalities, yeah? As if I haven't sat programming MaxMSP for hours to come up with algorithmic sequencers), if the sonic outcome doesn't make me piss my pants, you've failed.

Also, don't start me with academia and technicalities - merely running in tangents.

  • Aleatoric means leaving something to chance. The hexagons aren't notated so the 'chance' here is down to the user not knowing what notes they have chosen. "you idiot"

If the only way you can conduct a discussion is to argue that black is white then defend yourself by completely changing your angle and banding about insults then fine, I shall do the same. I reserve the word "fuckwit" for extreme cases of obnoxiousness, and in this case I would like to use it. YOU ARE A FUCKWIT!

  • This shit is amazing.

  • ive been looking for this video for like 6 months

  • letak sume try..

  • This sounds like something out of System Shock 2.

  • 2:29 sounds like the incidental music from the TV show Monkey! :D

  • awesome shit

    very close to reacTable

  • same people made it

  • i know

  • You can download a synth for free =P

  • holy crap.... were do u buy this thing i must know!!!

  • OH MY GOSH!!!! This stoof is incredible, i want it NOW! plz send me ill give you my address where u HAVE TO send this stuff =D

  • I see the future of DJs !

  • Reminds me of Animusic, must they have been using this to create some of their music creations? :) What if they do? ('o')

  • meh, monome/ reactable/ tenori/ ds/ psp/ iphone are all way better than this for making tunes.

  • technology music yeahhhhh

    love it

  • I LOVE IT SELL IT TO ME

  • were and how can i get it??????????

    how much?

  • I think a jazzmutant would be better and cheapper than this but it depends of what do you want, a lemur can do this and more, whatever you want musically speaking, cheers =D

  • But it can't though, hexagonal shapes on the lemur... not possible.

  • maybe, but the jazzmutant lemur is easier to get and it´s better, with lemur you can do whatever you want in MIDI but with this you only can do arpeggios ¬¬´ cheers =D

  • i want one

  • From my use of MIDI and Controllers ect.. this is godly. defiantly a step up from your basic MIDI Keyboard.

The Reactable is also minty fresh but this looks amazing also

  • Wow! When i remember my old casio keyboard 1983 and see now THIS....unbelievable, amazing! Thanks for such a diving into a new future!

  • coool

  • you should totally sell this

  • reacttable

    sorry

  • Music is your own perception of sound.

  • It's just a new generation of music!

    Be more tolerant!
