If anyone has the error 20 thing, try disconnecting the ipod from your computer, make sure it is off hold home button then reconnect, the apple will appear then the connect to itunes icon will appear. Go to itunes, restore the ipod. If you want to restore to the original. open my computer , click on tools tab>folder Options>View tab>Show hidden files and folders. Go to and hold shift - restore find file C:\Users\your username here\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

I'm getting error 20. I can't get this to work at all. Everytime I put the phone in DFU, itunes just displays a performance bar and then just dissappears with error 2001 or something. then it takes about 20 minutes to get the phone out of DFU where there is a pic of itunes disc and USB port. The best i've gotten was downloading the 2.0 software on itunes 7.7 but that didnt even work either, I can't ger my phone to work at all. please help

If your getting error code 20 ur not in DFU mode. The timing has to be on point. It took me 7 times to get it right, plus the 1.1.4 version I had was bad so I used 1.1.5, I got a 1000 code error, then I tried it again and it worked.

Its definetly in DFU mode everytime I do it. other apps I have running tell me that it is in DFU. I might try the 1.1.5 part as you said though. maybe that might help. i've been at this for 2 weeks now. Thanks for the suggestion.

I HIGHLY reccomend to anyone to downgrade to iTunes 7.5, as anything higher will give errors and will not work correctly.

By the way, after it downgrades you may still recieve an error msg error 1015 in itunes. To fix that, download Ziphone 3.0. Launch ziphone > show advanced features > erase BL 3.9 Baseband. Perform action. After that finishes, click do it all with ziphone and your back on 1.1.4. Its as simple as following instructions

I uninstalled 7.7 restarted and installed 7.5 like you said to do. Then I put in dfu mode correctly and the screen was black. I went to browse for my 1.1.4 restore file, itunes showed that it was preparing for restore, but after it did that for a while, i got an error 1604 message that said "the ipod could not be restored. an unknown error occurred." what did I do wrong?

good video man helped alot, but on vista if you search for the .itl file and delete it it deletes a different file and doesnt work, you have to manually go to the iTunes folder in my music (on my computer) and delete the libary file.

you dont even have to uninstall itunes. download the 1.1.4 firmware and save it to ur desktop. connect ur itunes to your come comp, hold the shift key and click restore device on itunes a window will pop up. open the 1.1.4 from ur desktop. itunes will restore and ur itouch/iphone will be automatically be downgraded. hope this helps
