I always just take the game out and air it out for a few seconds, maybe waving it a few times, then I pop it back in and it usually works. If it doesn't work then, I blow on it. If that doesn't work, I pull the cartridge out a little bit, snapping it down on the edge. If that doesn't work, I say "screw this", and I go play Atari 2600 :P. My NES works better than most.

hehe, i got my nes when i was a kid back in the beginning of the 90s and when i was visiting my parents a couple of weeks ago i dug it out of the attic just for fun :D all the games work just fine, all i had to do was blow the dust out of the console and the games and it works just fine! i must say it makes a sweet nostalgic piece in the living room :) just ordered some games of ebay, good fun :D

you know how I get my NES games to work these days? take them apart and clean them with WD 40 followed by rubbing alcohol using Viva paper towels..the soft paper towels! Not that scratchy shit.

My awesome uncle got me an NES because I was playing his every time I visited my grandmother's house.

I also got Mario/Duck Hunt, Ghostbusters (not very good) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1988. I think the first game I bought with my own money was Super Mario Brothers 3 when it was brand new.

i had famicon in japan. i visited my hawaiian/japanese cousin in hawaii and saw the grey nes. i remember laughing about the fact that they had to blow on the cartridge to avoid that flashing error. that never happened in famicon the top loader. also i was kind of confused about the size of the game. it was huge....

Did you know that if you wiggle the game out a bit while its in the NES so that scrapes along the front of the cartridge when you push it down, you can "force" a better connection between the game and the pins?

Hmm, I got mine working by just disabling the 10NES... Less effort, free, different results. The games might not load as true as a new 72pin, but the blinking light will be no more. Now I can wobble my games to add effects and glitched sprites.

However, severe corrosion can only be aided by a new 72pin

You'd be surprised at how many NESs have that problem. Just clean the bottom part of your NES cartridges with 70% rubbing alcohol, or replace the 72 pin connector.
