I think this song is about being afraid to die but having to accept it (i think I should give up the ghost) and begging/desiring for GOD or whatever it is to take care of you as you pass on. I think it's a gift to the terminally ill, the downtrodden, humanity in general. Anyway it's incredible.

well i do like your interpretation, the only thing that i can't square with is the fact that "give up the ghost" is a phrase that refers to death. but yeah i like it
