aaaah finally a version of "All er Nothin" that's bareable to watch. lol. I've seen alot of good actors do it but none that could sing it right. there's a youth theatre version on her somewhere and the acting is amazing but there's a part the guy can't quite sing right and it makes it hard to listen to all the way through.
@musicalmeg19 Actually if you go back to the era -1940s- when R&H wrote this, it was INCREDIBLY important to show these kind of girls in shows all of the time. The formula to success back then was a creative plot (which was new), elaborate sets, big stars, & sex. "No Girls, No Gags, No Tickets." Without loose girls, there'd be no attendance. In fact, it wasn't even "sexified" until the original choreographer, Agnes De Mille, brought that up to R&H since it was originally witten without any sex.
Sometimes I get the impression that Rodgers and Hammerstein weren't too fond of women. In their musicals, the women are usually a floozy or useless or comical. Like Liat in South Pacific -- she barely even speaks, she's just there for Cable to sleep with. I hope I'm wrong. Can anyone verify or deny? I'm open to thoughts.
@musicalmeg19 Well, I agree that Ado Annie seems really flirty and, yes, a floozy. However, Laurey is a very down to earth, sensible character. So, yes, part of what you say is true, but they must have had some respect for women (or at least some knowledge of them).
@musicalmeg19 Liat is not a slut. She just happens to have a mother who wants her to marry a person above her station for a good life. She starts out as a virgin and her and cable ffall in love.
@cripplious And the main female character in South Pacific, Nellie Forbush, is nieve in some ways, but certainly not a floozy, useless, or just comical. The same is true of Maria and the daughters in The Sound of Music. Anna in the King and I comes off well, as do the other ladies in that musical. And Billy Bigelow, the main male character in Carousel, comes off worse than the female lead. He's an uneducated wife beater. So overall, the female characters fare pretty well.
Why would someone put a knife in that thingy?

@musicalmeg19 ....I dont think Maria from sound of music is at all "floozy," she's the strongest character out of all of them.

I love the "All Er Nuthin" song, but this Will plays it a little bland, IMO. :/ I like the Annie in this one though.

@MissGrammarFanatic I don't agree. Actually, he's very sweet and subtle. Great voice too.

Very clever with dancing coming in between the scenes. Notice that Ali Hakim is flirting with Gertie Cummings already?

Anyone else watch this endlessly when they were kids? I definitely missed ALL of the innuendo until just now. Wow.
