I think Americans should love this as much as any British person, as it's easy to understand and very funny... It would be very sad to think that an American couldn't get this comedy.. just because it's British... Maybe only Americans with British ancestry like British humour, as it's part of their DNA.
I've never seen Harry do stand up /Impro , always seen him in a comedy tv series, now Letterman is a big gig for potential ratings Harry is avant garde with his form of comedy even in the UK, still on the night who knows, he pulled it off, etc...
His first time on Letterman (mid to late '90's?) was one of the funniest stand up spots the show has ever produced. Dave even referenced "You like the lining?" for the next 10 years.
@Parley454 - I love his tv burp, best thing on telly. And I love his you've been framed, but his stand up just isn't for me. I like stand up that makes you think, like Carlin or Hicks.
@ freekicking... reckon americans on to the satire thing now. cut to family guy/american dad... dead popular in america AND uk! also satire becoming blurred with 'old-style' comedy now. difficult to distinguish x
They're laughing easily as much as an English audience. People saying the American audience don't get it are just 'hearing blind'. I don't like the "back me up on this" thing. I think in England he'd just say it and not to the movement. The music theme is Talking Heads cool!
wtf... i see so so so many posts saying "oh i dont think americans get it". did none of you actually watch this? they were laughing their asses off. your all a bunch of ignorant comedy snobs. you probly think monty python is awefully cerebral humour.
i feel sorry for him, hes actually one of the funniest british comedians around, and that could of been a shot at being big in america, but they simply just do not understand some types of humour, if you veer of slapstick, bigotry and chauvisnism, americans get confused.
Makes me proud to be a Brit :)

Was this because ITV had the UK rights for Letterman and needed somebody the UK would recognize?
