  • What's Ironic about this song is that this was the last song that Gladys released on Motown before leaving and when she won a Grammy award for the song the presenters were the Jackson 5 who were the reason why Gladys left because she felt Motown was going in a different direction. She also was the one that discovered the Jackson 5 and pushed Berry Gordy to listen to them even though Motown had everybody thinking it was Diana Ross.

  • Ah ha! oow, oow, going back to find a simpler place in time, oow, oow! I got to go, my world, his world, I got to go, I got to go! Leaving on that midnight train to Georgia. I got to go, I got to go, ah ha! (I Love this song from back in the days.)

  • I've been to Georgia twice in my life, for extended periods, Atlanta mainly, and as a Yankee, was impressed by a less tense atmosphere, and in the Buckhead and Dunwoody areas, by the seasonal plantings and contemporary architecture. I believe in the refrain, "Y'all come back, now, ya hear?

  • to those who believe the lyrics of a song don't matter, i say just listen to this beautiful song while paying attention to the meanings of the words, then you can feel the greatness of this song was a combination of Gladys' great voice, the great music, and the great lyrics... yes, words matter...

  • Ok the PIPS make this song!! I adore my girl Gladys but I sing the Pips part more than hers!

  • I am not sure but I always felt this song was sang to me as a boy. And what you know life following art.

  • Hey Jimmy4764, It's definitely got the Motown sound, but recorded for Buddha records after G & the Pips left Motown. Bob Babbitt, a Motown Funk Bro on bass, and Andrew Smith who recorded on many Motown sessions, gave the tune a Motown groove. AN ALL TIME GREAT SONG AND PERFORMANCE!!!!

  • nice song and great upload raregrooveman!

  • I can feel for this song. Although Georgia is a place I never have been, but when I hear this song, it reminds me of how when I was younger things were much simple and not all so complicated. As life goes on with all the responsibilities and other circumstances that always pop up in your life it can be too much to bare sometimes and you just want to go back to the past when things were simpler.

  • @supertrouper Great comment, that is so true I wish I could go back to a simpler place and time, growing up sucks!! Whenever I listen to this amazing song, my mind just goes back to those simpler and happier days.

  • @supertrouper well put.. maybe that is what people truly mean when they claim they wanna be young again!! i couldnt figure out wanting to be any younger with bad credit, no ownership and little money but now that u put it this way i can definitely feel where your coming from.. a simpler time!!

  • I've been listening to this music since I was a Sperm cell swimming in my Daddy's scrotum!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they dont make em like this no more

  • TO A SIMPLER PLAAAACE AND TIIME

  • Don't get any GREATER than this!

  • Goodness, what happened to this kind of music? Now we've got Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, who I admit are good performers. But this here is REAL talent and REAL music. I absolutely love this.

  • I GOT TA GO, I GOT TA GO, I GOT TA GO.

    WOO WOO.

    i love this song lol

  • My (former) wife & I saw Gladys & The Pips at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, back in the summer of 1974 (we also saw The Jackson Five that summer at the same venue) and Gladys was just wonderful. After I returned from Vietnam, in July of 1970, I spent 4 months in Georgia (Ft. Gordon/Augusta) and they were the longest 4 months of my life ~ waiting to go home.

  • playing this now on ma way to g.a

  • Gladys triumped herself with the song Midnight Train To Georgia in which she sang her heart out which resulted in a number one classic and several grammies. Berry Gordy did not know what to do with her and inspite of his not promoting her she beame one of the best singers of our time

  • Gladys Knight has always been my favorite pop/soul singer. She can sing anything. I love her. Thanks for this post.

  • classic record.

    :-)

  • Not only is this a brilliant song, I love the sentiments in it. "Whenever he takes that ride, guess who's gonna be right by his side." How many people would follow someone back to the life they used to know, after a dream failed, these days?

Love the way the backing singers imitate the train whistle.

  • I'm 16 and listening to this song (:

  • THIS IS YOUR FRIEND (ROGER, THE SONGWRITER) WITH SOME FACTS ABOUT THIS SONG. THIS SONG WAS ORIGINALLY RELEASE BY CISSY HOUSTON (WHITNEY HOUSTON MOTHER). GLADYS & THE PIPS WON A 1974 GRAMMY FOR IT (BEST R&B VOCAL BY A GROUP. NOW YOU KN

  • This is a very nice version of the song. I also like Neil Diamond's version from his new album Dreams.

  • I think I am going to sing this on my fathers birthday party. He taught me to love this kind of music, or music generally, and without him I would not be where I am now. Thanks to all the daddies out there sharing their passion for music!

  • sad to know kids nowadays are listening to straight crap. i wish i woulda had this kind of music when i was a kid...miss this style of music. you gotta love the classics right?

  • @geweher1 RIGHT:)

  • @RAREGROOVEMAN1 hearing this and some of the music of this era just makes me feel like growing up during the 90s was a sick joke. wish i could have lived when this music was on the radios and coming outta the car speakers.

  • @geweher1 I HEAR YA THEY WHERE GOOD TIMES

  • @RAREGROOVEMAN1 We didn't have the Internet, DVD's, or PC's, but growing up in the seventies had its perks. A lot of good music in those days, plus we still had the great music of the fifties and sixties on the radio.

  • @infinityseed THAT VERY TRUE

  • @infinityseed I'm 24 and I completely agree, don't forget to mention another perk about that time was that music from this era WASN'T around. Not saying all music from now is bad or all music from then is good (most was though, lol) but With the exception of a few artists from now I would be happy if the universe had stopped making music in the early 90's. Not to mention no reality tv back then (god I envy the times when there was no real world or jersey shore!)

  • @infinityseed I'd give anything to have lived in those days when the music was better ♥♥

  • @geweher1 I'm one of the "kids" you're talking about, but I <3 this song.

  • @geweher1 Amen!

  • @geweher1 i am 16 and i love this song

  • @geweher1 oh i know right. im 19 and i love all music. but this is just so good. so much emotion. i love it ha

  • @MrIrishman32 pussy is delishiss

  • @geweher1 Lol, well I'm 23 and grew up listening to mainly 60s and 70s music. I love it all, stop being such a hater.

  • @geweher1 -I very much agree

  • @geweher1 i think its a little pointless just to label music you dont listen to" straight crap" i think that attitude is the reason why we have different types of music in the first place, i enjoy very much this type of music, i also enjoy hip hop/rap, , to be honest i can understand you disliking a type of music, i hate country music, but thats my own opinion, doesnt mean i can just consider something bad because i dislike it

  • @lazyswine1717 im not saying i dont love hip hop and rap either. as long as its telling a positive message or proves a valid point for people to reform and better themselves. but if all it says is "im so rich and i got money, cuz im so rich, cuz i can cuz im so hood cuz im a G" then theres no point. hence it is straight crap.because there is no point. i know you know the rappers im talking about. wise rappers are the ones that the game is missing.

  • @geweher1 to be honest i dont think that's a valid statement at all, thats another thing people just relate to, what points are being taught isnt the best way to label something good or bad either, the Beatles/Jimmy Hendrix for example, great musicians, but what people obviously disregard is the huge amount of lyrical links to drugs, maybe its not as illustrated as "rap" but it still talks about drugs, you dont have to be smart to know about the devil/drug songs from Beatles

  • @geweher1 You will be happy to know, at the college I go to, there is a History Of Rock and Roll music class, and this is one of the songs that was played, not that I hadn't liked and heard this songe before it.

  • @geweher1 i love this style

and i have 14 years old

  • this is a song you play when you feel down, you let the melody fill your heart and the sound fill your soul and lift you up!

  • ALL ABOARD!!!!!!!!!

  • fantastic

  • I cried when i found this song here and when I herad it here. It is su an awsome motown song.

  • OHHHHHHYEAH

  • One of the best records ever!!

  • Oo y'all!

  • hespeler #1
