  • The bike Agostini rode was an MV Augusta, a 4 cylinder up again british single cylinder bikes, could of put a monkey on the MV and it still would of won. Plus there were less round in a season, and he was also riding in the 350cc championship most years, that's why he has so many championships, it far too professional for riders to ride in 2 different classes nowadays. Doohan is "the legend", Stoner will be "legendary", and Sissis will continue the myth

  • Mick Doohan is the Schumacher in MotoGP

  • Talking about the NSR being a death machine , don't forget Lawson went to Honda and won the title in the same year... didn't see Mick doing that. Still one of the all time greats though and with horrific injuries.

  • everyone knows the best things to come out of australia are anthony gobert and the crocodile hunter, so i dont know what all the fuss is about.

  • 8 dislikes i want to kill you 8 people doohan no1

  • all this talk of "mick is the best ever"...or "rossi the greatest of all time"...both great riders, mick was one of the hardest men out there at a time when the machines would sooner spit u off than do what u wanted...but...u have to remember, when he finally won his first championship, who was the competition? rainey was crippled, schwantz had retired,as had gardner, lawson et al...there was noone around to challenge him, which isnt his fault, but the fact is,he wasnt champ til they were gone.

  • Too bad the uploader replaced the lovely sound of screaming strokers with some candy-assed rock song.

  • I have met Mick in real life what a top bloke! this guy was why I stayed up so late at nite, the way he handled the machine the way he went about business was first class, his strong will and keen mind and not to mention his rare talent on a motocycle was exceptional and a guy like Mick Doohan rarely comes around but once in a lifetime. Everything fell into place thats why he won 5 world titles and if not for his accident then who knows. I enjoyed every race.

    cheers

  • it was other times.

  • mick will always be the greatest of all time

    nsr500 was a death machine

  • doohan rules !!!!!

  • Mick Doohan #1

  • bravooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • yaaaa whatev, rossi set all of the record.haha..

  • You don't know how to add more music to the video?? LEAVE THE DAMN MOTORCYCLE SOUND FOR GOD SAKE!!!

  • best GP riders will always be Agostini, Nieto and Doohan. Agostini was just a beast, Nieto even slowed down during races to help his teammates and Doohan could've won about 7 World titles without his different injuries

  • any one who wins gp is great

  • You people are pathetic. Mick is a natural and so is Rossi. They're geniuses and they're not alone. Plenty of riders show glimmers of brilliance but Mick and Vale are consistently good and that's the difference that puts them above the rest.

    Kobo

  • @Ghinko2 i agree well said............there are few that had the natural talent that they had...

  • when men were men and bikes were bikes

riders had a huge load of weight betwen their legs

  • Who cares? Both Doohan and Rossi are awesome riders. It's like trying to compare Don Bradman with Tandulkar or Rod Laver with Sampras. They are all legends of their time so leave it at that.

  • Sound like women over the goat. They all are great and being the best should only matter to them, and not us. We are meant to enjoy it all. Btw, this video has terrible contrast and terrible music. (Good song, terribad for this video)

  • dont compare riders unless same race-Doohan stopped a career that could have gone on alot longer he gave up 4 his own reasons and we all know he was capable to win several more world crowns-such a dominating rider he was head and shoulders above his competitors wen he stopped-few riders win by the amounts mick did today-im a mick fan a rossi fan and 10 others ta boot-grt racing is wat its all about and these guys are all legends in their time and forever.

  • im sorry rossi fans but mick was the best people say rossi never got injured but he is riding four strokes and late model 2 strokes every one knows that the 80 and 90 2 strokes were evil thats why any joe blo couldnt ride them how many of us jump on our track bikes and are scared of the bike . not me im scared that im a bad rider and will crash lol but the mick and oher 80s rider have all been quoted as saying they were scared at one time new bikes are soft and mick is best then rossi then sheen

  • @sprcampbell I couldn't agree more !!!

  • @sprcampbell ya and Doohan used ride the 'big bang' motor when no one else could,he was tough as nails too,all the injuries and still kicked ass :D

  • Doohan rode a 170HP bike, Rossi rides 200+HP bikes. This is power, not 2 or 4-stroke. The decision was purely environmental, it has nothing to do with slowing down the bikes. And obviously they are A LOT faster now. This is called evolution. Doohan was great, no doubt, but Rossi rewrote MotoGP.

  • Honda at the time said that they were building 500 cc GP engines of 212 HP. Doohan's NSR 500 was a 200+ HP machine. 2 Stroke, 4 cylinders, 500 cc, 200+ HP.

4 Stroke, up to six cylinders, 990 cc, 200+ HP. Even in 2010 it takes nearly twice the engine displacement for a racing 4 stroke to equal a 10 year old 2 stroke race engine.

  • @lambrettist2007: It is obvious that the 2 stroke has more power with a smaller displacement, it is just the nature of the engine, it was made to work this way. You would argue that the past F1 engines, which were 1500cc V6 turbo, with more than 1200HP in qualifying, were better than today's engines, and looking at the lap times, it is obviously wrong. It is not rocket science.

  • @saulocpp 2 Stroke has more power at any displacement compared with normally aspirated 4 strokes. Look at Evinrude and find out why they stayed with 2 stroke for there newest spec outboard marine engines. A 990 cc 2 stroke race engine would make way more power than the current MotoGP machines. That much power would have a detrimental effect on lap times as Honda found out when they built 500 cc, 212 HP bikes: times went up. So the 4 strokes make GP racing easier but it's duller to watch.

  • Amateur comment. It does not matter whether a bike makes 150 BHP or 500 BHP. What matters is the usable power. Did you know that most MotoGP 500cc bikes were actually detuned to 180 BHP to make them rideable? I love two strokes but four strokes produce more usable power over a wider power band. Check the 2002 season to see the massive acceleration and top speed of the 4's vs the 2's even though the power figures were almost the same.

  • These are different periods of competion. No point arguing who's best. They were both the elite of their era. It's so simple.

  • "Take a fucking chance, will ya?" - George Carlin.

  • Bullshit. Rossi triumphed on 125cc two strokes, 250cc two strokes, 500cc two strokes, 990cc four strokes and 800cc four strokes. Beat that. Get your facts straight first, mate. Rossi is the best then Doohan and then the rest. Period.

  • @sprcampbell you forgot rossi's father was good rider as well.and augustini. You must admit rossi does have the talent and smarts to be very good at racing the bikes that are used today.........i wouldn't take anything away from him at all.he has proved that no matter what he is on he can win.that says alot about a rider.....mick doohan in my eyes i agree with you ,pound for pound the best............

  • @brewski2011 No matter what he's on he can win. So then, what's the problem with him now then? If he can win on anything we cant blame the bike , can we?

  • @sprcampbell what about agostini. does noone remember this guy?

  • Qué bonito ver a Doohan con el 27. Casey Stoner, sin problemas de salud, next world champion, the end of Rossi´s age. Será interesante de ver.

  • there is only one bike...... HONDA

  • LOL yeah if you like mecanical, flat & non descript..

    May i suggest a Duc?

  • mechanical is a good thing when you are looking at a motorbike.

  • That's what Honda used to think until they pissed Rossi off and he proved to the World that the rider wins races, not the motorcycle.

    Nah, you're right. Honda's are wicked :)

  • wat is the name of tis song?

  • didn't see the add? Everbody's Fool by Evanescence

  • Doohan was the best 500cc Rider ever ! Including Rossi !

  • Rossi > Doohan, just put any top rider from around any country with him, he would pawn every great riders, including Doohan.

  • don't forget that doohan won races with a broken arm and leg. Rossi is yet to do that, if ever. Doohan won championships on bikes that tried to kill the riders (500cc 2 strokes) Rossi only won with these killing machines once. they are both Great but Doohan was, is and will forever be No 1.

  • @cuervocorazon But still Rossi is a complete athlete, I mean Rossi told himself that the best era was the 500cc because it was the rider who was controlling the bike.

Rossi won with multiple injury's, broken leg, wrist, ankle and shoulder wich is the most difficult injury of them all.

Shoulder injury's where career enders back in the day.

Rossi is the all time winner next to Agostini and I respect Doohan as a big legend. I see Rossi as nr. 1

    Great Legends !!

  • @cuervocorazon totally agreed. good comment mate.

  • @cuervocorazon rossi won his third title with the honda 500, last year of the 500 cc, i miss that monster of bike a lot.....

  • @cuervocorazon very true. but rossi also came into the picture towards the end of these "killers." and doohan is actually nothing compared to Agostini (which holds about every Gp record)

  • All his sh*t about Rossi vs Doohan. Did you guys forge when Rossi came to he 500cc (on a Honda) that Doohan was his mentor ? Comparing hem is stupid, the two of them are the greatest riders ever. (+freddy spencer)

  • The bikes Doohan rode were real killing machines ! No breaking, suspension, traction control adds. Rossi said once the most amazing bike was de 500cc :)

  • ya, 500cc 2 strokes. ;)

  • If you guys must really compare, Well Mick went through major injuries and near death and still continued to race. Rossi hasn't done THAT yet!!

  • Rossi has avoided that because he doesnt crash nearly as much as Doohan did.

  • Different time/ era of Bikes and track safety. 500cc two stroke w/ no traction control can't compare with new bikes. True Rossi keeps it on two wheels more.

  • You were the one who brought it up and started to compare.

If you want to compare then maybe compare how Criville and Okada ran Doohan relatively close but was totally blown away by Rossi. Yes, they probably wasnt at the same level anymore later on but still, you can argue that Doohan didnt have the same level of competition Rossi had. E.g. when Biaggi stepped up to the 500 class, he set pole and won the race on his frist try infront of Doohan.

  • ago has more world titles by far ferny. rossi is a great but 8 world titles isnt the best record by a long way.

  • Hold your horses. When Agostini raced he could compete in more than one category. He raced in both 350cc and 500cc at the same time, and he won 7 races with his 350, 8 with his 500. The odds are a lot more even. But these guys, Agostini, Doohan, Rossi etc are all fantastic riders, among the best in history. Each individual rider with the gear of their time must be taken account for. I just love the sport, and these guys make it as fantastic as it is!!

  • why does everyone compare past rider to current riders? rossi 8 time world champ.he is the best thats clear. whoever passes his record (not possible in my opinion) will better than him.ducati is still the bike to beat, stoner cracked under the preasure his mysterious "illnes" is called ROSSI. jeorge is next with the "illnes" just like sete and biaggi back in the day.

  • looking at the difference between the machines I would say that Doohan is a more skilled rider, don't get me wrong I'm a Rossi fan but people who have never ridden a 2 stroke sportsbike will always be biased towards a 4 stroke. true Rossi won in this category but not nearly as much as doohan. this argument could go on for a while so lets just leave it like this: THEY ARE BOTH MEISTERKLASSE RIDERS!!!!!!!

  • Doohan dominated head and shoulders better in his day much like rossi and ago they all grt and i dont compare any of them --i just admire them all.

  • O rossi é o melhor,e como é logico so se ganham corridas com uma boa mota, mas quando ta td igual quem ganha smp é o rossi, mas claro como es inutil n percebes ixo, respeito pelo rei das duas rodas!!!

  • This guy was good.

  • rossi is great pilot, but for me, doohan is the greatest

  • ahahahahahah

  • why's that ?

  • like Hellripper said, I share his opinion and think that Doohan was more charismatic person then Rossi

    1.Mick Doohan

    2.Kevin Schwanz

    3........

    4........

    5.Rossi:)

  • please dont compare riders of different eras.... there is no base for comparisons to be made..... doohan took a long time before he won his first title....stoner and lorenzo are pushing rossi...... dont bullshit about rossi in his prime or doohan in his prime..... that way doohan won his first championship only after rainey went out and schwantz had lost his drive.....its like arguing about who was the better guitarist Page or Hendrix? It will go on.............

  • hendrix..however, maybe you meant Page vs Blackmore, the historic rivalry..

however I think that Mick and Valentino are two great champions, even if I think that nowadays Valentino has already become The Legend, the Best Ever. However I always loved Doohan, also because he won 5 world titles after the terrible crash of 1992, and qith a special bike, 'cause he coldn't brake with the righ leg, injured and weak, and he had to brake with a special thing on the left hand.. great respect mick..

  • Doohan had the bad luck with injuries and he practically built the Honda, before him Honda was a joke...

Rossi got the luck of always getting the best bike and the best team. It was fun to see him 2 seasons ago when Yamaha sucked a bit and he complained like a 2-year old kid.

  • Rossi n°1!!! That's not luck, but he's the best so he makes Yamaha the best bike. In fact Yamaha sucked before he ran with it.

2 seasons ago Yamaha didn't suck a bit, but it sucked a lot.

  • Actually, the first year he passed from Honda to Yamaha, he won, despite a worse bike...and so did he until 2006...and in 2008 and likely in 2009

  • Honda was too arrogant and let his team go with him to Yamaha. Plus Yamaha put the biggest effort and $ since the Rainey days...

  • I reckon it's mostly due to Michelin problems that he did not win the 2006 and 2007

  • it was even funnier seeing him winning after mechanics and tyres' manufacturers fixed what he was complaining about, in gave good "directions" to them and they improved by that step he needed.

  • furthermore, rossi built the yamaha himself, so that makes him not so different from dooahn, probabli even better since he switched from honda to yamaha just to prove people how strong he was, and ther's still people saying he had always the best bike..did it happen in 2004 too? what abpout 2007?

  • Comment removed

  • wat best bike are u talking about? do you have any idea how bad the Yamaha was when Rossi came in? He practically built the bike.... He was complaining witha genuine reason..... 2006 the bike broke down too often....... 2007 it was the Michelins and also the fact that Stoner and Ducati were faster than him. He admitted it himself.? Get your facts right....

  • Is this what you hear when you're riding your bike???

Isn't engine sound better than this crap music??

  • This is a tribute video, it's going to have music.

I'm sure there's plenty of onboard videos of Doohan on youtube, so instead of complaining why don't you go watch them.

  • doohan would have got smoked by rossi

  • Oh how I doubt your INCREDIBLE WISDOM (cough, cough, cough!!!)CashedUpBogan46, it really does show how little you know then doesn't it???? It also shows how little Rossi fanatics brains are. But you can dream I guess. I am a big Rossi fan but not a fanatic, there's a huge difference. Rossi started out on a dumbed down version of a two stroke (post '97) & still couldn't keep it upright in his first season. I'd like to see Rossi on the '89 Rothmans Honda (missile with no brakes or handling).

  • I second that. Rossi would have gotten stomped by Doohan, Schwantz and Rainey, just to name a few. Rossi's problem (or lack thereof) is that he doesn't have anyone of his caliber to push him year after year. It would be interesting to see Rossi born 10 years early. But put Doohan in his prime against Rossi in his prime on the same bike, I'd say Doohan wins 9 out of 10 races.

  • FU-CK-ING OA-TH !!!!!!!!!!

  • LoL

Rossi doesn't have anyone of his caliber!??

That's because he's the best biker ever, so even if his opponents are very strong (maybe [or surely] also better than doohan) they seem noobs.

But that's only due to Rossi's skills.

Rossi in his prime vs doohan in his prime = Rossi 9-1 Doohan (1/10 is luck)

  • where is the audio??????

  • como rossi ninguno, pero hay k reconocer k despues de rossi es uno de los mas grandes
