I'm proud that my hometown is Sarajevo. I was there all those years and everytime I see that cellist I cry, because he reminds me how strong and vulnerable we were in the same time.
This is yet another part of the PBS special that blew me away. Wish you had included the part where Joan is taking the chair from Vedran and singing a capella, 'Amazing Grace'....but thanks anyway.
Ah what solidarity and love exchange from Sarajevo raja to Joan! from Joan to us.... Moving, beautifull, wonderfull example of citizen courage! Adorable Joan, great Vedran!! Play it again!
Excellent video and superb song. The reference to Robert Kennedy's funeral train really got to me. So understated and so moving. I think Sheryl Crow may have been inspired by this song when she wrote "Where Has All The Love Gone?" ("Today I saw the flag roll by, draped on a wooden box. If we have lost our way, then what have we got?")
i do not understand really what went on in sarajevo..where is it..and why was it attacked...and this man..hes well known for something....someone please explain! im in canada...i dont get much news...the life of a highschool student...ahaha...jkjk..but anyways.please someone tell me!!!1
People of Croatia and Bosnia wanted to step out of the already dying Yugoslavia, but Serbian government, led by Slobodan Milošević, sent JNA (Army of Yugoslavia) on civil targets to execute people in some areas of Croatia and Bosnia where some Serbs lived to make Yugoslavia a Big Serbia. Term used for this activity in media was "ethnic cleansing" (look it up on wikipedia). That's how the war started. I was 6 years old and I've seen it all.
@VALDIGNE That’s why we are much stronger today than ever. Bosnia needed this war, so we can wake up and see what was going on. Never forget!! Bosnia in our hearts forever!!!!
@dragszes Bosnians are mostly a secular people, and that's why I sympathized with them. If they were anything like Muslims of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or very conservative Pashtoon tribal society, no one in the world would have pitied them.
@dragszes I've never said they fought for secularism, I said the majority of them are secular. Furthermore they were not fighting for an Islamic republic either, as far as I'm aware of.
what your are aware of is wrong.Read their presidents islamic declaration then you might understand why Serbians in bosna had to fight these jihadists. Also look up muhadjadeen in bosnia on you tube to see who Serbs were fighting in Bosna .Alot of the secular bosnjaks faught under fikret abdic alongside Serbs against these jihadists that america supported

I do not have that part. This is not taken from the PBS special (released I think in October this year) but from a much older material.

A thousand days of sorrow, I can here your mournfull cry,
It echoes o'er the oceans and rises in the sky,
A city where the muslim call and the church bells intertwine,
Come! sing with us a chorus, a song for better times.
Sarajevo, Sarajevo the whole world signs your song,
Sarajevo, Sarajevo the whole world signs your song.

Sarajevo needed weapons to defend its people not Joan Baez.
Forgive us Bosnia for having abbandoned you when you needed our help.
