$40k is way to much for a car that size. Its only worth it if gas goes up to $5 or more a gallon so prepare for that to happen in the next 2 years. its only 230 miles in the city bcuz of the electric only mode. once it hit the freeway and over 40 miles the mpg will go down a lot. I want to know the MPG without any charge at all and the range is the real question. Of course they wont say anything i read about it last year saying it will get 65 MPG without ever charging it so we will see the truth
So all of a sudden they have a car that's 5x more efficient than any car on the current market?
Bullshit. They've had this shit for a long time. It most likely wasn't 220mpg right away, they gradually got to that amount. Where the fuck are all the cars in between the 30 - 50mpg ones they've been selling us and the 220mpg ones they're hiding? Why haven't they sold them to us as they've increased their efficiency?
you have an issue. listen and repeat after me. "I AM A RETARD" The reason this was just realeased is because its a new technoogy the chevy has just made perfect. graned they have had the idea for about 6-7 years but theyve just finished it. You don't know how long it takes to create somthing new. OMG i just had a good Fuckin' idea and im gonna build it in ten minuts and sell it. Name one car that is manufactured and/ or sold in the US in large masses that get 230 MPG.
Creating somthing new is like an art, takes time, goes through changes, then it's respected. But theres not allot of people who have a clear mnd these days. noooo. they think it just happens. Just learn and think about what youre saying before you say it
if its not a chevy, its the shitz. no offence. Thats why there are NO cars that get 75-150 MPG 'cause it didnt exist yet. ford is ok and everyone hates chevy 'cause nooboma took over for NO REASON!!! it kinda sucks.
And im going to say somthing. look at youre last comment... "why didn't they release the machines as they progressed?" Hmmm. i wonder why. what if they released it, had issues with it, then got sued?{lus the retarded goverment would'nt have let them come out because there lots of tests thats required BEFORE they can release it. I do agree with you though... it would be nice if they could release new tech. as they go along.
It gets 230 mpg in the city because it's using the electric motor almost exclusively in the city. But if the Volt is a pure electric & not a hybrid, then it wouldn't have an mpg at all. I guess it's better to use electric power most likely produced with coal at a plant with few emissions controls. That will be really green.
DemiGuy, you are one of the few who 'gets it'. All this electric car BS is being pursued to appeal to the 'greens' who typically know nothing about the car business, but are in search of the magic bullet. It doesn't exisit.
Wake up people, Socializing the car industry is the kiss of death to US auto manufacuring. It will be dead in this country in a very short time, much like England's car industry. Toast.
GM isn't being deceptive, never has been. They have been required to defy economic gravity for the last 50 years because the playing field has never been level! GM is hated by the left because they have managed to resist every effort to kill them . GM could compete better than any other manufacturer, even the japanese--if they had the same economic forces on them.
The japanese had no UAW to strangle them for 50 years. The UAW hates profits, yet GM was profitable sometimes. Too bad for them.
This is what happens when you mix politics with the car business--extreme bullshit. The consumer is being told what he wants to hear. There is never going to be some magic bullet that allows masses of people to travel long distance with little cost. There will always be high cost. The best we now have are cars like toyota corolla and chevy cobalt. They go far for little cost, and with very little ecological downside--vastly better than any hybrid.
This just reinforces the same old game, expensive cars that most people who own need credit for.
230 MPG, but what about the electric bill?
Electricity comes from coal (unclean), natural gas (meh) and...nuclear power (who realizes how unclean in horrific ways that is?), so is it's energy efficiency better for our economy?
so car gets 230mpg.. but has a range of what, 300 miles? what's the point?! give me a car that gets 230mpg and has a range of 1000 miles and now we're talking. My truck gets crap gas mileage but has a big tank so I can STILL DRIVE FURTHER.
Yes, some might see it as a dumb statement, however if my destination is 350 miles away and I can make that destination on a single tank in my truck, where the Volt has a range of 300 miles, which vehicle will get me from point A to point B without stopping to fill-up or recharge?
Your truck takes u further, then u need gas right? The Volt will go 600 miles on a tank of gas, then u can add gas just like ur truck and keep going, so whats the downside u were speaking of?
"The Volt is powered by an electric motor and a battery pack with a 40-mile range. After that, a small internal combustion engine kicks in to generate electricity for a total range of 300 miles." -msnbc
All I'm trying to say is when will the great mileage be matched with great range? if a car gets ~230MPG, why shouldn't the range be double or triple that?
I just didn't want to misquote the range on my last comment, I see now they are saying 300 miles, I remember during development GM's always stated 600 miles between fillups, it's hard to imagine only 300 miles on a tankful if it is now predicted to get 230mpg, hopefully we'll all get some clarification on this...
it's based on urban driving conditions. If all you use is the battery then it won't cost a gallon to get your 40 miles in a day. when you accumulate this to the average driving habits of said urban populous you will see a single gallon won't be used unless they go out of town or have many errands to do that eats up all the battery and forces the fuel to be used. It's not really 230 MPG it's what they believe the average man will drive before consuming the gallon of fuel.
yes but not much higher. remember it's the electric motor that makes up the brunt of that number and only if you are able to find pluggable areas throughout your highway foray essentially the MPG on highway is probably lower
Well, if GM can put this technology in a small car that costs only $18,000, they would have 90% of the entire WORLD's car market locket up with just this one auto. About this car? They say it will cost around $43,000? Too much. Not only is it not worth it, but most people can't afford it. Make small cars and motorcycles with this technology and the USA will have 20,000,000 new jobs overnight. BAMM!

It's quite obvious that you have NO idea what I'm talking about. They way you speak is proof enough that you lack an education.
I'm saying "Where are all the other cars BETWEEN this one and the ones on the current market?"
They didn't add a piece to car and *BOOM* 200+ more miles to the gallon.
They've improved bit by bit this machines efficiency to make a grand total of 220+ MPG.
Where are all the 75MPG cars?
Where are all the 150MPG cars?

Overall, what I'm saying is, why didn't they release the machines as they progressed?
Please, read closely.
Digest what you've read.
THINK about what you're going to say.
THINK about it *AGAIN* because obviously once isn't enough for you.
THEN MAYBE say something.

Nissan today said in response to the Volt "230" ad that the upcoming Nissan Leaf gets 367 mpg, and the Leaf is 1/2 the price of a Volt.

2015-2020 Toyota concentrates all energy on car development in anticipation of global car emergency demand from years now.
The point that a Japanese car manufacturer makes much of in the case of car development most.
1. A cost
2. Cursorial
3. Fuel consumption
4. Comfort
5. Safety
6. A design
7. Foreign (mainly, Westerners) popularity.

If this news is a fact, the fuel consumption of volt becomes 97.9288km per 1 liter.
It is very likely that this news is information agitation to raise the stock prices.

It depends on your lifestyle & access to another vehicle.
Some ppl only travel 300 miles a week, others travel about that much in a day.
If it won't suit you, don't get it.
