  • I remember this song. She came hard. She's most definitely a legend! I always wanted to fuck her.

  • Shante kicks ass, and takes no names!

  • QUEENS is right here! BORN & RAISED!

  • damn this song is fucken ill as fuck

  • she had sum fire lyrics in this song

  • there wasnt an MC back then and there isnt an MC now who can out rap shant'e

  • LOL. Yeah OK, if U say so. LMFAO...

  • shante was the tightest

  • shante still is the best

  • True.

  • All the females that were named in this song retalliated but none were able to make as much noise as Shante, this was her specialty, she made a career outta tearing rappers apart. Even though she didnt write alot of her raps, she still has the ability to drop a hot off the top of the head freestyle, which none of her counterparts could do.

  • Lyte also made her career from disin' rappers. She came out with 10% dis vs antoinette. Antoinette didnt last long after that. Lyte dissed sweet T and M C hammer. When shante came out with this, it was indeed hot but lyte's answer(steady fucking) to this day is known as the ultimate dis classic. After "steady fucking", Shante career never recovered and she focused on being a physciatrist. MC LYTE IS TRULY THE BEST BATTLE QUEEN AND THAT'S UNDISPUTED!!!!

  • mc lyte got that steady fucking from KRS 1. learn your hip hop

  • WHAT SONG DID MC LYTE DISS SWEET TEE ON.

  • Tahoeshrgl...U def. got it WRONG! Sha-Rock from the Funky Four + 1 was the female who laid the ground for females, then came the Sequence (from Sugarhill). If you don't know ya hip-hop knowledge, save ya comments. And for all those who thought Shante' wrote this, y'all WRONG too. Grand Daddy I.U. wrote this when the Sisters played that trick @ the Sistes In The Name Of Rap concert. Real Fact! Don't get it twisted!

  • i'm glad you made the point that she didn't write this. i was about to put that down. thanks! by the way kool g rap and kane wrote quite a few songs for her as well.

  • salt dissed the shit out of her on "Somebody's Gettin on My nerves" from S-n-P's Very Necessary album in 93. check it out it's on youtube.

  • Shante will always be known for Dissin. That's what she did. But The bitch was still hot....But the shit brings you back huh..What were you doing in 92'?. I know i was chillin in the Vill with my rope and my bamboos. Say What!!!...lol

  • love her

  • She is A real Doctor!!

  • FACT:

    Every female has had help!!!

  • i will even meet up with you too play the songs of mase first and you will here the same words in little kim songs. as i told you i hang out with these people i dont get it thru rumors. i wil have a show at s.o.b.s sat may 17 with big daddy kane and brand nubians if every thing works out it will be on black monopoly records . com. so stop saying duuuuuuuuuuuhhh like you know what your talking about

  • shante is the best female artist ever. i cant wait to finish my project with her. antoinette

was better then lyte too but favoritizm in the industry wins battles these days not just skill. its a shame. and yes shnte had many raps wriiten for her read the credits off the records blkdee07 on who wrote the ryhmes i'm a dj i know

  • there is so much info behind the scenes where u cant just run with what some people say. DO A SURVEY MY BROTHA.U WILL C WHO PEOPLE PICK - LYTE HANDS DOWN

  • shante is a true queeen of hip hop period. i just finished taking pics with her at the zulu nation party and it was a honor. and she has a record label now with mc. shan. they restarting the bridge movement with new mc's so her career is far from over

  • if she's trying 2 get back into the rap carrer then good luck to her. Rap sales isnt doing too good these days so this bridge movement might not be all that successful unless they're putting out new artists with hot styles.

  • I would like to know what Ms. Shante is doing with this PH.D that she earned and i havent heard or seen anything from Shante recently regarding music. I really would like to c her on an award show or an interview or a video...just something to know she's still in the game

  • Don't hold your breath. She's a psychiatrist now & has complete removed herself (for good reason) from the music scene.

  • yo dude...u sound stupid. Lyte came out the same time Antoinette did but LYTE had the better rhymes and sound that people like. Antoinette was good too but people wasnt feeling her like that. U aint no real hip hop head. U're corny sun. Half the time u dont even know what u're talking about. Learn your rap history before u post

  • listen boy you learn hip hop. i hang with all these cats go to my myspace page and you

will see me with them blackmonopolyrecords at myspac. i'm a zulu king understand that. groupies like you don't know the behind the scenes thruth.

  • shante is the best female mc ever. and that comes from a krs-one fan. and peace to my brothers and sisters in zulu nation!!!!

  • u're just another shante die-hard fan that's in denial but that's ok - u're entitled to yourz

  • and another thing you will see me in the zulu nation jacket half way thru krs-1 and marly marl show. right here on you tube. i'm on stage with them. artist in the rap game know shante can't be messed with by no other female!!

  • You're entitled to your opinion.

  • and KRS1 let LYTE use his phrase Roxanne Shante is only good for steady f**cking....Shante was hot but lyte built her rap career taking female MCs out in a battle(remember, shut the eff up hoe) & dont foget that Shante never wrote her own rhymes but LYTE did

  • lyte did not write all her ryhmes. shante didnt either but she wrote most of them. and lyte was not even better then atoinette its favortizm cause of fame not skills. just cause lyte used a phrase of krs-1 don't mean her ryhme was better

  • i dont know what u're smokin' butLYTE dominated hip hop back in the days then came Queen Latifah and so on and so on. I've seen LYTE perform and she definitely got skills. AND NO SHANTE DIDNT WRITE HER OWN RYHMES and LYTE WROTE MOST OF HERS

  • If u dont believe me then check it out for yourself, just type in the youtube search box- LL COOL J DISSES JAY Z AND TALKS ABOUT HIS VERSE -Listen to the interview and hear for yourself how LYTE was undisputed and the greatest..

  • agrees lyte the best.

  • And how come most people dont hear about this zulu nation. Aren't they old school. R they doing underground work now? cause no one really hears from this group

  • dam your sad zulu nation is not a group its a nation. in every town in every state. and over seas . you must be real young to ask that.

  • NOT SAD...NO ONE HAVE REALLY HEARD OF ZULU NATION XCEPT THE RAP/MUSCICAL GROUP FROM BACK IN THE DAYS..AND 4 THE RECORD I'M 37 y.o.

  • well if ur 37 the same age as me and dont know about zulu thats sad. and i guess u dont go on myspace cause people from every state rep zulu. much bigger then bloods kripts and latin kings put together. we are now promoting out in public again. zuluuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!

  • (I'm older than allyall) Shante laid the ground with her powerful, unique voice. Had nothing to do with lyrics so folk are arguing semantics here...

  • LOL. still reaching I see. Fact is, I'm older than U. I''ve been in the hip-hop game since the days of Kool Herc, etc. Know your history before you make yourself look any dumber. Nuff said.

  • What's up baby, you're only 37??? I know my history. And I'm old enough to realize that even the youngest people can contribute the most important thoughts and ideas.

  • LOL. I'm 39 soon to be 40. Contributions are fine, as long as the history is known & understood before they go half-cocked..

  • lyte did not write all her ryhme. she even said ll cool j wrote half her ryhme on self destruction. audio two wrote for her and positive k. no female rapper except for maybe heather b wrote all thier own raps. and i speak to these people when i do security for the zulu nation

  • lyte did originally write her own rhyme on self destruction & when she saw cool j, she asked him how was it and he changed some of her rhymes for her. And that's how it usually happened, even with heather B. The girls who wrote their own stuff usually got their ryhmes rearranged by producers or other artists which is usually male. Unlike Antionette, Shante, foxy brown, salt n pepa who had their lyrics written for them

  • yours facts are all wrong. if you was a dj and mc like me you would know to read the credits on the redcord labels to see who wrote the ryhmes and you will see on lytes that kane milk dee positive k ll cool j and few others wrote some of her ryhmes

  • U'RE SO DEFENSIVE THAT U R NOT ACKNOWLEDGING WHAT I WROTE. LYTE WROTE RHYMES NOT ALL OF THEM BUT SHE DID WRITE A LOT AND OTHER ARTIST OR PRODUCERS USUALLY REARRANGE THE LYRICS TO BEST SUIT THE SONG OR RAPPER. ALSO THE RAPPER GETS MORE $ WHEN U WRITE YOUR OWN STUFF. NO FEMALE HAS EVER WRIITEN A RYHME COMPLETELY AND NOT HAVE IT ALTERED BY MANAGEMENT....DUUUUUUH!!! BUT lil kim, lyte, latifah & heather b and lady rage were a few of the girls who managed 2 write

  • ok your wrong again little kim has hardly ever wrote a rhyme. i have songs in my house the my home chief walker did with mase before he quit the first time. and little kim took all mase left over ryhmes for diferent songs plus big and others wrote for her. heather b is the only one from the names u listed who wrote most of her stuff

  • and if you watch the behinds the scenes tape of self destruction that i have. you would see your wrong again lyte never finished her ryhme for it. ll cool j was adding lines while she was still trying to put it together. she said he came in and out the room like 4 times adding lines. you tell the story the way u wanted it to go not like it was

  • Wrong, Lyte spit waaaay before the disses came out. Uh, Lyte as a rock, I cram to understand, Kickin' 4 Bklyn, etc. all came before 10% dis.

  • lyte did not beat shante in a battle. her response was weak. i'm tired of the favoritizm in the game. it seems like who's more popular people root for not rhyme skills.

  • Ltye did slay roxanne shante in that battle and MOST who was in that era will tell u so. Im glad Shante went on to be a Dr. and all that but Lyte went all out on her reply to Shante. A classic moment... It would have been cool if Shante would have had the other girls do a song together instead of her coming out dissin.

  • shante had over 55 responses to her song. and none of them was as hard as shsnte came. and i was not a die-hard fan at first. cause i hang with krs-one people's and we was not feeling her at first. but we couldn't front she is hot. i'm on stage with theses mc's most of the time doing security for zulu nation

  • the 55 responses u're talking about is from Shante's song BROTHAS AINT SHIT. That's when the west coast replied to that song along with many other MALE rappers..it had nothing to do with the female battle

  • MC LYTE RULES...Lyte is considered the BEST female solo artist of all time. After she served Roxanne Shante with "Steady F**king" even the male rappers had to step up their game. Roxanne Shante fell off and started smoking crack and then she played herself by dissing top selling female artist trying to make a comeback but instead she was disgraced and went to become a physciatrist.

  • You are a fucking hater dumb ass. Shante did not start smoking nor did she ever do crack. She finsihed her education and got her masters and has a PH.D. A crack addict couldn't complete college and hold a practice dumb ass. If Lyte's diss was so hard, how come everyone to this day thinks THAT DYKE is a DYKE? Shante ruined her name for years to come. What did lyte's diss do??? NOTHING!

  • I'm not gonna debate with u because u obviously dont know the history of the battle. Roxanne Shante was a crack addict for a while & everyone in the industry knew it. She even had sex with her uncle to get money for drugs

  • And after MC Lyte slayed her with Steading f**cking, Shante's rap career was over so Shante had no choice but to reinvent herself & change her life and then that's when she went to school and got her PH.D

  • shante career is not over she still goes on tour all year round. you need to learn about favoritizm in the industry. radio can play you more but it don't mean your the best!!! on stage ryhme for rhyme shante would burn lyte. lyte is a battle on record mc not face to face

  • well i dont know cause a face 2 fce battle with these 2 females has never occurred but i still put my money on LYTE.

  • You'd lose SON! SHANTE kicked everybody's ass! If she didn't write her raps who cares? She delivered them w/ perfection! Plus I believe she wrote "Big Mama" and "Nasty Rhymes" from the "Bitch is Back" LP on her own! "SHANTE the microphone grand mistress!"

  • U R trying to come for me but u dont even know the facts so u lQQk quite foolish cursing and raving over Shante when she didnt even maintain her rap career..LYTE maintained her rap career and LYTE is considered the best hardcore female rapper of all time...do your research - the truth is the truth

  • Lyte was suicidal you dumb ass!

  • Sorry Yo!!! lyte destroyed Shante in "STEADY FUCKING" "i heard you smokin' crack lady you jus' had a kid i guess that make him a crack baby" - lyte killed her with that verse then lyte ended her with another verse saying "and even for a small fee you let your uncle get one off while you bounced on his fuckin' knee"---lyte rules!!!!!!!! after steady fucking, u didnt hear shit from Shante

  • True. Plus Latifah got Shante on her 1994 hit "I Can't Understand." Though Shante is a pioneer, many people were pissed at Shante for dissing them.

  • dats right, lyte is the real G.O.A.T

  • And just for the recod, the industry did not consider LYTE'S reply to BIG MAMA wack. MC Lyte's Steady F**cking is one of the best rap disses in Hip Hop history. Steady F**king is a CLASSIC

  • She bit the lines from KRS 1 and it wasn't all that! Some good points but Shante totally kicked her ass and did it in a line or 2!

  • And even if Lyte is a dyke who is Shante to come out her mouth & dis her. I'm not hatin' on Shante cause she was a fine rapper when she was out but Shante had stopped rapping & then after being out of the rap game for years smoking crack, she played herself by trying to make a comeback dissin. MC LYTE put her on full blast on wax & wrecked Shante rap's career

  • You went hard! MC Lyte did crush this chick! I don't know about the crack situation for Shante but ER'BODY knows LYTE phucked this chick up crazy!!

  • well the crack issue was the word out n the street about shante ATT. Lyte had put all her business out n the street with that song & she had got all her info from the artists in the business but that is the past. At least u no the real deal phinepoetry

  • Shante actually shut Lyte up!

  • dont get me wrong i still like lytes tracks and some salt n pepa and queen lats tracks...

it was just the juice crews ways ... the loved all the dissing... mind you a lot of them did go rnb so she did have a point! mind you shante did do a uk acid house track in 1989 so in fair thay are bad as each other when it comes to stepping away from hip hop ... but lets face it music is music and thats that...

  • piss off did lyte come back! the reply was wack!! Shante is still the 80s and 90s queen! im out

  • "recitin poems that hit like boulders/smackin your head dead off your mothaf*ckin shoulder"

Say what you will..that track is a CLASSIC diss record.

  • When I first heard this song back in '92, I was mad as FUCK!!! The reason why is because she dissed a lot of my all-time favorite female rappers: Yo-Yo, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, and Salt n Pepa!!!! After I heard it, I never respected her again, and that's real talk.

  • Well, it's too bad you don't respect her like she gave a damn. lol Those very girls that you "respect" didn't have respect for Shante which is why she dissed that shit out of them for that. Know your history and get your facts straight.

  • I respect Roxanna cuz she was a FEMALE who was willing and able to take on the BIG DOGS (including those of NWA)! ..And now, ol' girl's got a PHD! GONE 'HEAD, girl! I used to dis you in my rap lyrics, but I've always had mad respect 4 ya as an emcee!

  • BITE THIS.

  • I was mad as hell when I heard this song back when it first came out, dissin Lyte pissed me of fa real!

Yo what happened at the end of the video? Who was fighting?

  • The nerve of her to dis SALT N PEPA...LOL!

PUH-LEASE...They SNATCH that QUEEN OF RAP title from her so fast...SHE GOT WHIPLASH!

  • Salt-N-Pepa didn't even write their own rhymes - WHAT YOU TALKIN'? ..She may not be the nicest emcee, but give ol' girl her props, because if it weren't for her, there would be NO Salt-N-Pepa, cuz after Roxanne blew up (underground - who cares about MTV), that's when they went crazy looking for female rappers (like Salt-N-Pepa)!

  • Nevermind. Lytes song was called Steady F*cking. She destroyed Shante. She was vulgar as hell.

  • Destroyed her??? The industry considered Lyte's comeback diss weak as hell. Shante predicted everything those girls were going to say because they didn't have shit on her. How can you say she destroyed Shante after "one word and I'm a bag her, watch the bitch stagger cause I don't dig the bulldagger" She outted Lytes ass and people are still thinking Lyte is a dyke. Fuck outta here! Shante slayed.

  • maanannn no one and I mean no one could touch big mamma I don't care if she did get krs 1. that was wack wack wack. how could you outdo big mama.roxanne RIPPED! and I am a big mc lyte fan! roxanne came with it and then left the industry.

  • mowhit1 is right..MC LYTE DID DESTROY THAT BITCH with "Steady F**cking. Roaxanne Shante was a sour crackhead who tried to make a comeback by dissin after being out of the game for many years..MC LYTE IS TRULY THE BEST FEMALE SOLO ARTIST OF ALL TIME. Dont get me wrong tho - Shante did read with "Big Mama" but Lyte served her with "Steady Fucking"

  • What was the name of Lyte's song to her?

  • Who remembers Lyte's retalliation song, from her 1993 album? She was talking about Shante having a crack baby and what not. By the way, I've got to say, both this Shante track, and the Lyte track I mentioned, were brilliantly produced, and funky as hell!

  • Y'all don't realize that Latifah came and snatch that bytch off stage right at the end of the song, left that hoe trackless, lol, nahhh I'm playing.

  • Damn, alright!!

  • where yall found this at

  • OMFGGGG. She was certainly the Foxy of that time.
