I live in Dayton now but me & my mom thinking about moving? Im tryna 2 decide between columbus or cleveland? people from cleveland let me knw about the city thx
I will always love Cleveland, my old hometown. But it couldn't give me a job so I left for Texas (Dallas first, and now Houston). Dallas is nicer than Houston.
Somebody needs to put a huge fire hose through a top window of city hall and flush all the shit out-- one tremendous political enema. Instead of encouraging industries that have adapted to America's post industrial status, these god damn fools just flap their arms and gums about injustice as the steel plants and auto factories close around them, then tax the life out of those who stay. Thank god for guys like Bart Wolstein and his family who still try to develop and contribute to the city.
i disagree. i lived in downtown cleveland. actually about .2 inches out of this camera's reach and it is certainly turning. especially with things like east 4th really taking off!! you venture off slightly into the outskirts of any city you will see the not so desirable. I'm from another major city originally (a well respected one at that) and I can tell you the same rule applies. I lived downtown, i worked downtown and i played downtown and met many keepers in the same situation.
I agree,I'm a clevelander, and it rocks, sure there are lots of gangbangers and people below the poverty line! But there plenty of places in and around cleveland that are awesome! And bernardfeltzer can just stfu
You see, I WAS a Clevelander for about 25 years - most of my family lives there - and I too defended Cleveland... but I have to say it's gone the way of Detroit & Philadelphia - once great cities who are now crumbling piles of garbage... it saddens me because I see Cleveland's potential, but your civic leadership has screwed up so bad - the only decent people left who actually LIVE in the city are a vast minority - and the rest are.... well, you can go see for yourselves.
First of all fuck who ever is downing THE LAND cause thats where i was born and raised. It aint that bad there but of course if your outside looking in youll have mad shit to say.
I used to live in downtown Cleveland in the 90s. I swear on Sundays you could hear a pin drop from a mile away. With the then-new Tower City, Galleria and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, plus the famed Playhouse Square, I would have expected SOME excitement, even on a Sunday. Hell no...
Well, gay marriage/adoption are banned in most cities, and at the Federal level - so Cleveland's not unique in that respect. But yeah, Cleveland's anti-growth, pro welfare/special interest civic leadership has created a poor, crime/drug ridden, gang infested slum of a crap town. Last time I headed to the Flats, I thought I had gotten lost because it was so run down... even had roads overun with vegetation... Cleveland wrote the book on how NOT to run your city.
Exactly, when your city's night life is all but dead - you decide to institute a smoking ban that will assuredly represent the final blow to many of the few remaining spots. Anti-smoking activists try to claim it has no effect on business w/ twisted stats - but many owners in many cities know that right or wrong, it hurts their bottom line big time.
Frist of all,MrSint. Smoking bans do not hurt business.2 the ban was STATE SMOKING BAN not the city of Cleveland ban. People will not go to PA just to get away from the ban.
Ask a decent sample size of business owners who were actually part OF a ban, they'll tell you what twisted agenda based studies won't. State-wide bans may not allow indiv cities to be singled out, but remember - these kinds of businesses compete not only with eachother, but also & moreso with a person deciding to stay at their own or somebody else's house.
Ohio voters chose to vote against gambling which could bring in tourism, and we now have a full state smoking ban so no smokers will want to vacation here along with bars losing more jobs and business. We have an anti-gay feel such as marriage bans and fighting adoption by gays...we have drugs everywhere in Cleveland and a poverty rate that causes crime and makes it dangerous. The flats are a power drinking fest with drunks fighting in the street.
I was part of the "white flight" out of Cleveland where I was born. When they started desegregation and busing kids across town...all the white families and those with money left for the burbs..
...like the crumbling infrastructure? Or the totally ghetto metropolitan area? Or the abismal night life? Or zero public transportion - even cabs? Or virtually no growth in any important sector? Cleveland sucks - most of the people who live in the city anymore are poor, welfare recipients, criminals, and let's be honest here, minorities that will only vote in like-minded Democrats that buy votes with handout promises as the city continues to die beneath them - pathetic.
It started to in the early-mid 90s... that's what people remember when they think Cleveland's shed its bad image; but they let that opportunity go & have slid right back into being that crappy undeveloped ghetto city again, with a smidgen of decent spots scattered here and there & a lot of nice albeit boring suburbs surrounding the outskirts... it's basically a marginally better Detroit.
...despite Ohio's impressive college portfolio, since so many people DON'T "dig it", they HAVE gotten out - resulting in what's been termed the "Cleveland Brain Drain" where their best & brightest take their skills & talent elsewhere. Most decent people have to live in the burbs because the city is one big ghetto - and they can't get any good political leadership because most voters left in the city are societal leeches scrambling for handouts while their city crumbles beneath them.
Cleveland is great, and if you don't dig it, get out. If you got out why are you here checking it out? We in Cleveland are proud, and that's enough. What can you say about your little shit holes?
Almost all of my family still lives in Cleveland, so I visit there often. I WISH Cleveland didn't suck, but it does - and most Clevelanders know it. It COULD have been, once was, and perhaps still CAN be a place to be proud of - but for now, it's a joke. What can I say about MY little shit hole? Chicago's a world class city - and it shits all over Cleveland.
I work in Chicago and live in Cleveland. It's OK for a bit, but then it gets old. Cleveland is peace and quiet. I guess it comes down to what you are looking for.
Cleveland was my home town for most of 25 years until I moved - even lived in Ohio City for a spell. Notice from the video how dank & desolate it appears. They had a brief re-vitalization in the early-mid 90s where it looked like they could turn things around... but they've gone right back to being a dying, cruddy, dirty, poor crap pile w/ little development, no real public transportation, and abismal civic leadership. It's cheap, but that's only because nobody want to live there.
Clevebland, er, I mean Cleveland SUCKS! The weather, the hicks, the economy, etc. No matter how you sugarcoat it, as they say, 'you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig'!
The Flats is dead. It's all about the Warehouse District and Tremont now. Little Italy over by Murray Hill is jumping too. Nobody goes to the Flats anymore. Everything there is closed.
