Brilliant song, and wonderful lyrics, and I'm glad Francis smiles when she sings it, because if you don't smile at the irony of it all, it would depress you; and it's better to show we can still laugh, even when we know how we are all being conned.
Wonderful voice she has, and very well sung. I'm not Irish but I've loved this song since hearing it for the first time on Pirate FM in Wellington (sadly no more), New Zealand many years ago. I only wish she didn't smile when singing a song as powerful as this one.
First heard this sung by Francis back in the 90's at a live show in Manchester. Listening to it today, it sounds so apt in the world we have today in Ireland and beyond.
I discovered this song and this artist while on my honeymoon in Ireland. I heard it playing in the music store my wife and I stopped in and instantly asked who it was and bought the CD.

Anyone know when this was recorded?

@docgleeson it's from the late late show's tribute to Sharon Shannon in 1993 I believe.

You could not have a song in so few words that could say it all about, the people in power in Ireland.
