It's the standard call, but refs use their own judgment (til this year). Whitney was in a very bad position, getting slammed head first into the boards is a one way ticket to a neck injury. You have to answer that, most refs understand that and let it go. Unfortunately the NHL wants the instigator called every time now and it leaves the skilled players very vulnerable. It's hunting season for guys like ott and avery. There's no one holding them accountable now.

In the time Carcillo has been here, I haven't really notice him as a "dirty" player.
Yeah, this hit is pretty dirty but even Carcillo knows its a bad hit right after he does it. He kinda gives one of those "ah shit" poses after it.

It's the standard call, but refs use their own judgment (til this year). Whitney was in a very bad position, getting slammed head first into the boards is a one way ticket to a neck injury. You have to answer that, most refs understand that and let it go. Unfortunately the NHL wants the instigator called every time now and it leaves the skilled players very vulnerable. It's hunting season for guys like ott and avery. There's no one holding them accountable now.
