  • I've got a Canon power shot A1200, today when I was turning it on I accidently dropped it, when I try to turn it on the outer lens moves but the inner lens doesn't. It's jammed I know that.

  • I FIXED IT NEVERMIND :"D

  • My Nikon coolpix s3000 has a lens error message when I try to zoom OUT. It turns on and extends the lens all the way, but I cannot zoom in on anything without it retracting back into the camera and giving me a message telling me there is a lens error. Would you have any clue to what is wrong with this? or on how to attempt to fix this??

  • Thank you so much! This just saved my life. Literally.

  • THANK GOD I THOUGHT THAT ASSAMNT WAS"T GONNA GET IN ON TIME!!!

  • the len's barrel's won't move when I turn it on. I have a science project if I don't finish it I'm DEAD!!!!. P.S I'm in High School

  • thx a lot, now my Sony DSCW50 cam is working again :) after 2 years :)

  • So sugar particals got into mine. It will open, but then i have to "help" the zoom lense out. i've tried the canned air, the paper, and knocking it on its side. repeatedly. I don't know what to do anymore. I love this camera! it will focus far out, but once you zoom back in, the focus completely goes away. what should i do?

  • Thanks to god it works now!! :)

  • i have a product kodak m580 and i dropped it accidentally. then the lenses were stuck and can't take a picture clearly.. what should i do dude?

  • @zxchyskscmy same problem here dude

  • I only have a fujifilm finepix, though when I go to take a picture sometimes the image on the screen will appear very blurry and also be blurry when taken. I don't think it's a problem with the lens extending because it's fully extended and still goes like this... At random times the camera will be fine, and others it will make a buzzing noise and he blurry-ness will occur, any ideas of what I can do?

  • Why do we need a can of compressed air?Isn't that why we have mouths!

  • I need some help too! So Today I dropped my camera on the stones on my driveway. Two springs fell off and those two flap things that cover the lens when you aren't using it fell off along with the piece right above the lens. My camera still works though and it still focuses on things.

  • @kitkatgal00 click on the link, then go to the "Blog Archive" in the right column of the article. Open the November 2007 article "Repair of Stuck Lens Covers". It show you how to disassemble or reassemble the "automatic lens cover" if you wish. But if you don't have all the parts, they're really not needed. The camera should work fine without. Just be careful to protect your lens from being scratched or getting smudged when not in use.

  • Done almost all this and it wont work. I never done No 7 Cos the lense wont extract at all so i cant grip it to pull it out

  • Thank you so much, about to leave for mexico and my camera all the sudden got a lens error, I have a Cannon SD1400IS And as you were on a tip that didn't work for me, I just turned on the camera while wiggling the lens barrel and WHALLA it whirred and wroomewd and my camera came back to life!!!

  • Thank you :) your tips saved my camera :)

  • I have a fujifilm camera and before it said ZOOM ERROR the lens was kinda getting stuck every time I tried turning it off so I had to tap it so the lens could close. Now every time i turn the camera on it says zoom error but actually the lens of the camera stays out it doesn't close in when I shut the camera off can you please plus it looks blurry and I dont know what to do I tried some off the stuff on the video but nothing happen hep me fix it I will appreciate it thanks :))

  • I have a Cannon PowerShot A630 and fix #2 worked! I just removed my memory card. My lens error started after I dropped it off of my mantle onto the marble hearth. Thank you so much - I was excited I didn't have to take the (at the time) worthless thing apart. Also, as a side note, while I was watching your video my husband asked if Bill Murray was helping me with my camera - you do sound a lot like him. I pictured him helping me once my husband mentioned that.

  • hey, have you tryed fix number 69? use magic!! oh yeah!!

what a waste of time watching this lame ass video with dumb ass tutorials... god damn it!

  • @t00nz843z i bought this camera in 2009, so im guessing the battery is 2 yrs old. i cleaned out the barrels for any particles in them but nothings worked. i charged the battery overnight and nothing. wat happened was i had the badest luck that week. it was the week the camera's warranty would expire and a few days before i was at the park and the camera fell on the ground, but completely covered by its carrying case. i think there's something wrong inside the camera.

  • @ginam2690 what's ur coolpix? i have an S560 that has a problem similar to yours. mine plays like the first half second of the melody it plays when it is turned on. then it stops and the lens are stuck about halfway out of its encasing. the only way it would go back in is if i took out the battery nd reinserted it. i could use some help too :(

  • @mattster51 that definitely sounds like low power startup. How old is your battery? If more than a couple years, it's time for a new one as per Fix 1a in the video. Check Amazon for inexpensive generic versions of the "EN-EL 11" battery.

  • i just pressed my lens back lol xD

  • I don't know if anyone can help, but I have a Nikon Coolpix and the lens is stuck partially out, but not enough for me to grab it and pull it. It looks slightly slanted and when I try to adjust it, it makes clicking noises but does not set itself back into place. Any other suggestions? I really loved this camera :(

  • i got a easy share digital one the lens is like not doing what it shud help me asap it wont even turn on

  • he said doo doo lots of times *rage face*

  • Could you do the paper trick with card stock? it seems to me that it would be more sturdy and have less bend, the only concern i'd have is weather or not it would fit inside the small space.

  • My Kodak Easyshare M530 12 MP Digital Camera with 3x Wide Angle's lens is stuck but it also wont turn on at the same time. What should i do??????? Please respond or by email response! i REALLY dont want to pay for a pro to do it

  • How do you open the lens? My Sony cybershot lens are jammed and I hear something loose inside how do I open it?

  • thank u now my camera

    works

  • Hello , I need to ask a question, i have the Fujifilm FinePix Z100fd, i dropped my camera while i was at the mall , and when i turned it on , the screen was black but you see like different colors, i tried taking a picture and it works , but the picture comes out black w/ different colors, everything else is fine w/ it , just that it won't take the pictures. i believe it has something to do with the lens, can you please help ? Thanks

  • WOW! I was just minutes to buy a new camera... Mine had the lens error and none of these methods worked. You know how I fixed it?? HITTING ON SIDE OF THE CAMERA AGAINST MY DESK! Im so happy now!

  • Your video fixed my camera, my friend took this camera to the shop and they wanted the same price to fix it as it cost so, I tried the paper method and the tapping method and repeated those a few times and it works so I have a 14.1 mega pixel camera for free!

  • Have that same camera..........biggest POS.

  • Great video nicely done. Thanks for sharing this invaluable information

  • I need some help, man. I have a camera that looks almost exactly like yours (canon PowerShot A590), and the lens is jammed, half way out. It seems like the outer lens is off track....slightly leaning to one side, but hard to notice unless you look real close. What should i do?

  • @brentlion see the above linked blog article (right below "Uploaded by t00nz843z"). Read Fix #7b of the article, and note the picture showing the guide slots. The video is intended for cameras with gunk jamming the lens. But cameras that are physically damaged might need this additional special step of 7b. Think of the lens barrel as a dislocated shoulder, it needs to be straightened first before anything else. Follow the step, and immediately stop and try the camera if you hear the "click"

  • @brentlion and as before, this only works for about 40% of the cameras. Hoping that you're on of that 40%!

  • my nikon coolpix...switches on ..4r sumtime tries to focus..den d lens gets back and a message iz displayed..."lens error"..wat should i do ..please HELP..!!

  • My lens are staying still. What should I do? I tried doing everything but it wont work...

  • plz help me i was taking pics with my new canon powershot elph 300 hs and i droped it and it says " lens error will shut down automaticly reset camera" but i dont know how plz i got this camera 3 days ago

  • My camera wont stay on to check the 1a instruction, it comes on then i get lense error on my screen with lots of numbers then it goes off .please help me

  • My camera keeps saying lense error and the zoom wont open , can you help me please, please please.?

  • my lens thing wont go back in help?

  • My camera dropped lens first into sand, and my camera opens half way then falls back and shutters rapidly. ? what should i do?

  • @Akissxx recommend trying the steps as shown in the video. But your first step should be to remove the battery and card, and open all the doors on the camera. Then vacuum around the lens, and also the door openings of the camera. You want to remove as much sand as possible before proceeding with the repair steps.

  • thx men fixed my cyber shot

  • Awesome, thanks for the upload. Great advice. Didn't fix my camera though. If you know anything about the internal workings you should post a video on how to take it apart and clean it. You would have to include a strong disclaimer though. Wouldn't want anyone to oped one up and become the flash. Them flash capacitors can knock the snot out of you... Learned this the hard way! If you explained draining the flash cap with a resistor it would be safe enough.

  • @AldoBr549 Don't worry. Check the above blog link. You'll see it's there, along with a description on how to safely discharge it.

  • i dropped my camera and the battery holder (little platic thing) is brokenn what do i do?

  • is this will work on canon ixus 860?????help me men

  • @mabuhayphilippines1 yes it might.

  • Comment removed

  • thankyou ! i have an Olympus FE-320 and i fixed it on the last step. Thankyou so much! You saved me alot of money !! :)

  • Hello I took apart my sony dsc-100w to replace the lens unit but now it won't turn on are there any tricks or procedures I need to do? like looking for a fuse?? any help would be appreaciated and Thank You for this vide0

  • @Laughin9M4N if you unseated any ribbon cables while you were in there, recommend going back in and reseating those same ribbon cables in their connectors. If it really is a fuse issue, its not usually user serviceable. It's a tiny soldered component on the circuit board, mainly as a safety feature to prevent fire. Even if you could replace it, you'd need to first correct what the issue was that caused it to fail (am guessing sand in your lens gearbox if you were experiencing lens issues).

  • @t00nz843z I think I know what caused it to fuse, I shorted the capacitor thinking I would discharge it but I forgot to ground the screw driver and I saw a spark (scared the crap outta me). I hope I didn't destroy anything. But I do remember that I had everything disconnected when I shorted it. I will try re seating everything. Thanks for the advice. Let me know what you think

  • I Have a Sony DSC-W190. I dropped it will it was on and now the lens is out, but it wont go back in. (its cricked) Any suggestions?(: I tried the piece of paper but the corner just got stuck inside.

  • @CindeeFoo When the lens is visibly damaged (crooked), think of it as being like a dislocated shoulder. It has to be straightened and put back in place. See the blog link, along with its comments section, for other variations to Fix #7 to straighten the lens barrel and reseat the guide pins. It won't work for every case, but sometimes it does. Good luck!

  • thank you very much for this tutorial. my pentax m85 was fixed by step 6. thx. : )

  • Okay so i read your blog but i didn't get the answer for my next problem, i did Step #4 & it worked!!! BUT when i pull it off & RESTART the camera w/ the A/V cable....it didn't work. :( So what's your opinion in fixing that? My problem is that i dropped the camera...so for sure there's no sand particles stuck in the lens. :/

  • @g0rg30usp33p it seems that the extra power boost with the LCD screen turned off (from having the A/V cable inserted) helped start your camera. This makes me suspect that you might be experiencing low power from your batteries. Are you using good quality batteries (do not use dollar store brands, all are bad from reaching shelf life)? Or if using rechargeables, how old are your rechargeables (they only last one or two years max, then should be replaced)?

  • @g0rg30usp33p see below, and if you're absolutely certain that your batteries are fine, still recommend that you proceed sequentially through all the steps on the blog. Dropping your camera may have just moved that clinging sand particle into the right spot to jam up your camera.

  • i can't tell you how much i appreciate your help!!! My camera is working again & thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!!! :)))))))

  • Need advice if possible please!

My camera (Samsung PL50) lens does not work at all although the rest of the camera works fine, it's stuck and wont go back into the camera when I turn it on/off. I also noticed that if I shake the camera it has a rattling sound within the lens. Its possible that something is come loose in the inside the lens? I've tried completely taking apart the camera to investigate but it seems to be just in the lens. Do you have any advice on how to help with this please? :)

  • love you man

  • I have a Canon Powershot SC100IS and had a lens error. Went through all of the steps up to tapping it, and tapping it against the heel of my hand worked. (Don't have a rubber pad on the camera, and didn't want to hit it against my desk). Thank you so much.

  • Dropped your camera? Most of the fixes here won't apply (unless you dropped it in sand). Try starting with Fix 4 at 4:58 (maybe also Fix 5 at 6:02) and skip to 10:04 for Fix 6 and onward.

Don't forget the important note at 9:00 about the later fixes being risky.

  • No, I didn't, when I tried it just now.it kind of opened, thanks:) I'll try one of the other methods.

  • Hi, umm I've got a Casio Exilim EX-Z37 and I've tried re-charging the batteries and took out the memory card like on the video, but the problem is, when I turn it on, it just says lens error and turns off again without actually opening the lens so I can't dislodge things from the barrel gaps like on the blog. What should I do?

  • @msqmegachocomaniac have you tried the vacuum cleaner fix to extend the lens with suction as listed in the reader tips of the above linked blog article?

  • This did work and also your blog was very useful. I have been trying to fix this for about 18months as well.

  • i got it to work again but when i turned it off it wont turn back on PLZ HELP!!!

  • @dancemmc go to my main blog site listed in the video, and go to the Nov 30 2007 articl "Repair tips for digital cameras that won't turn on". Try the tips listed there. If those don't help, the next likely problem would be a blown fuse (possible from sand gumming up the motor or lens gears). In that case, repair is unlikely as fuse replacement is very difficult, and you'd still need to track down the root cause.

  • hope this works, i have 3 cameras like this and decided to try and fix them

  • Excellent video, and shot very nicely, with lots of great tips, which hopefully will never be needed to put into action.

  • If one of these fixes do work for you, please post which one in particular, along with your camera model. This may help others with your model camera.

  • i would have been dead if i didnt fix my camera! this is great! like times a million:D

  • LIFE SAVER!!!

  • OMG IT WORKED! tapping it and turning it on! thank you!

  • i have a canon powershot A2200 and my lens sometimes retracts and extends properly and sometimes it doesnt. And also the screen doesnt turn on any ideas on how to fix that?

  • @MakeupMinela , how old is the rechargeable Li-ion battery? If over a year old, it may be time for a replacement, as that can cause intermittent lens error problems. As for the screen, have you tried pressing the DISP button on the back of your camera?

  • thank you so much mine is fixed!

  • what if you cant grab the lens on the camera?

my lens are jammed in the open position and wont even move at all

    HELP PLEAZ IM DESPERATE

  • @theasianfoool please see the link included below the video, and consider reviewing some of the reader comments of this linked article. The linked article goes into much greater detail on these fixes, along with reader tips of other fixes that may have worked for them. Some of the readers have reported success with using a vacuum cleaner to extend the lens for cameras with lenses jammed in the closed position.

  • @t00nz843z THANK YOU!
