This is not just Japan, it is Iceland and Norway also. Japan is just very vocal about killing whales for "cultural meat" yet stating to the world it is for "scientific research". The whale meat is so high in mercury it is toxic to both man and animal.
I have some great friends who are japanese, so know I come from a good place when I say stop killing the ocean's mammals that cannot be raised in the seas like a cow on a farm. We need to protect them for our future generations and our earth.

In Washington State there is a Whale research center in the San Juan Islands that do very similar scientific research on Whales without murdering them for simple facts and data analysis. There is no good sound reason for killing these innocent and magnificent creatures of the deep just for a few 'facts' that can be obtained in a safe and non lethal manner. Obviously this is a cover for the sale of meat and is incredibly dated and barbaric and has to be stopped.

I became a vegetarian four months ago, and frankly I live very well on my current diet. I limit myself to free range eggs and I tend to drink soy milk. If you would have asked me a year ago whether this was possible, I would have said you were absolutely crazy. I encourage everyone to look into vegetarianism, or at least cutting back on your meat intake. My personal view is that humans have evolved, in large part, past the point of where we are dependent on animal suffering for food.

Japan is not alone. The US and Canada are given special quotas for whale catching. Norway and Iceland are also demanding commercial whaling. I agree.Whales should not be extinguished. But when the number recovers, whale catch should be resumed with a very careful resource management. Whales should be used as one of the marine resources. I own a Japanese car and I'm sure as hell not boycoting Japanese goods, I realise this isn't a position carried by the greater percentage of Japanese population. Hopefully future generations with grow to support sensable environmental practice on this issue.

I can judge a general view of Japanese people on this issue through discussions in the TV,magazines, internet opinion borad. Overwhelming majority of the expressed opinions are angry voices toward outside pressure to stop whaling. Environmental concern is the top priority of Japanese people and the goverrnment. However, regarding whales, our stance is very clear. We should continue whale cathcing while preserving whlae numbers. We must catch them in a very carful manner to preserve resources.

This is what you, whale protectors are considering. the life of a whale is more important than a Japanese. History tells us that 10o years ago, white regarded Asian as non human and I found this view still alive.

What kind of "scientific study" did you use to come to conclusion that we are the most sadistic. If we ask the same question to your native people, they will say that the most sadistic race is Australian who took theri lands and opressed and killed them.
Wesimply would like to continue our dietary culture to eat whales, like oyur tradition to eat cattle.

While I in no way condone the further disruption of ocean ecosystms ie. whaling - I think you make a valid point to call into question the beef cattle industry - beef production has seen the mass clearing of forests- extensive erosion - high nutrient runoff into rivers and oceans- each may be as bad as the other?

Please Stop eating Shark Fin Soup. Please boycot Yahoo! who is a 40% owner of Alibaba, the largest seller of Shark Fins on the internet.
And last but not least, Sign petitions to stop Japan from killing endangered whales in the name of "science and research" Sign petitions and call for our goverments to participate in Ocean Sanctuaries.

Unlike other animals that are raised and slaughtered for food in regulated situations, we can not raise ocean's sharks and whales for fin or food.
What we are doing is depleting our world's waters of these great beings.
Will our children's children inherit clean seas with plentiful life?

Guys go to greenpeace dot org and look for a little telephone icon that says call for the whales, it's a petition to the governments. Please sign it. There are a few more but everytime i post them on here they get removed. I dunno why. Anyway, that's a start pass that petition on. Please don't get racist by the way. We can't tar everyone with the same brush.I've seen Japanese people on the petitions protesting about this too. Peace x mo
