The King's Troop are not wearing jodhpurs but tight fitting military overalls, worn by all ranks in cavalry regiments and field officers in other corps. I think they should have been given rifles for dismounted guard duty.
@MrJimmyboy1972 - They are a battalion of yellow & green bobbies ha ha. I took it as a joke. Whenever he's on duty in Windsor my son's fascinated by the way the Red Caps just enter the pubs at closing time & the squaddies quietly leave! If only the general public behaved like that life would be easier for them. I'll pass on your appreciation. The press never report the good they do-all undone by that sgt in the custody suite! Feel free to wish them Merry Xmas it'll really boost their morale:)
@MrJimmyboy1972-I'm sure you weren't being sarcastic about "the yellow & green bobbies".My son is a member of that elite force in Thames Valley. He appreciates the squaddies in Windsor - they don't get incapably drunk, don't spit on him, don't kick, punch or scratch him, oink at him, tell him to .... off (& that's just the females - the next generation of mothers!).They're impressed by him&he's impressed by them.Sadly the Thin Blue Line is a lot thinner (& thinning daily) than the Red one.Good music!
@Insperato62 that was a joke. not a very good one. but a joke. the yellow and green bobbies do a really good job. and, i appreciate them very much. they keep my family safe (four children and six grandchildren, up until now) please tell your son that we appreciate his hard work and concern for the british people. oh! also! i served 15 years in the british army, six of them with the royal military police. i have had to deal with difficult people at all levels... god bless
@theloudhalo thats because you have never been in helmand province. you obviously have not heard of the elite british fighting force, "the 1st battallion, the yellow and green bobbies" who accompany the guards on all of their overseas deployments. read up on your british military facts before you post please.
@aitchgee3 It's that woman staring at it, it's getting nervous! Every time it get's a chance to turn red, she stares at it again! Poor old traffic light!

The Drum Major with the red plume is from The Band of the Coldstream Guards he is perhaps filling in for the Scots Drum Major! The Irish Trombone player is also been ask to fill in for the Scots Trombone player! This is not a rare sight it happens alot withe the bands!!
He is not a Drum Major at all but a Colour Sergeant from the COD 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. Notice the Sash and Sword denoting a Drum Major is missing.
The Drum Major is not a member of a Guards Band but serves in a Battalion usually with a rank of WO Class 2. So they are not always committed to lead a band in ceremonial duties. The rank of Drum Major ia an appointment by HM The Queen within the Household Division.
My comment was not intended as sarcasm at all, but as surrealistic humor (or "humour") picturing riderless horses only, doing Public Duties without any riders.
You are quite right about the upper/lower contrast in uniform, although I did not pick up on that until I read your reply a few moments ago.
Well that's alright then, you see I can become unreasonably hostile to those I think are being sarcastic but since you are not - everything is fine. :)
I, too, remember the shorter clips of the first part of this. I especially liked the fact that here these clips were long enough to hear most of the piece being played and that it was not fragmented. Very nice work! I have to admit that the other videos today didn't do much for me as I think I have mentioned to you in the past that fife and drums just don't cut it for me but the quality was excellent.
Thanks for posting - very enjoyable.
Very impressive looking soldiers - and with the bravery to back up their looks.

It is very strange to observe that everyone on here is MOST concerned with the workings of a traffic light! How sad!
No-one has yet mentioned that the British Army has to be accompanied by a Yellow/green flourescent clad "Bobby"
It's funny - but I haven't seen many Yellow/greeen flourescent "Bobbies accompanying them in Helmand Province!

What's going on with the traffic lights? Green for 8 seconds, red for less than 1?

Where's the DOG ?
danmeyers55 2 years ago
I presume the dog you are referring to is Comnal, an Irish Wolfhound that is the mascot to the Irish Guards.
The dog and its handler only go on parade with the Band of the Irish Guards.

Good video though how come the Drum Major at 3:08 has a red plume on his bearskin? You can also see an Irish Guardsman in the centre row at 4:51.

The RHA look funny dismounted!
HMservant 2 years ago
HMservant,
If the Artillery look funny dismounted,
then imagine how silly the horses look when they are riderless doing Public Duties over at Buckingham Palace!
hongbao 2 years ago
Is that sarcasm? Anyway, all I'm saying is the the heavily braided tunic doesn't quite match the riding jodhpurs.
Secondly, horses don't look that silly riderless.

Please excuse me.
