I have an Asus G50VT-X1. Is it any different? I know the design is...So can I play some 2011 games on it? I checked at gaming-debate, and I can play a few games, but nothing like Metro 2033...but I saw someone play it on my model, and it looked great...so can I play some 2010/2011 games on it?
i can play crysis 2 but i get slow downs and fps lag and it feels really draggy once in while.. does that happen to you too? cos i think with a little tweaking or upgrading it should be able to run crysis 2 at 30fps contant... :/

@MrReview21 I use a Logitech G9 mouse and if you wanted an external keyboard I would recommend a saitek eclipse II, they are quiet and really nice and comfortable.
@RaptorTX915 But you have to realize, if you travel a lot you can't take a desktop PC everywhere you go... Or if you're on a plane you can't bust out a desktop and play some CoD4 or something. Desktops will always be better for gaming, but if you're on the go, sitting at college waiting for class to start, you'll be able to play some games. :P It has it's levels of convenience

Two different machines, it depends on what you want to do with it. If it's games you're after then this is the better option then the Mac. However the Mac is better for certain other tasks.
This is not a 120 hertz monitor so 3d vision wouldn't work unless you hooked a secondary monitor up to it. However, if you had then all the games would run exactly the same. Also note, if I made a video it would not be 3d as the lenses are polarized... so ultimately it would be useless making a video with 3d vision or iz3d. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. The games however would run exactly the same with said drivers assuming you have a 120 hertz monitor.
well i plan to hook it up to my tv which is 3d ready, and i plan to use shutter glasses. the reason i ask is because i've heard that to play a game in 3d its about 1.6 times harder on the computer. i was curious if you tried the anaglyph drivers (which are free) where all you need are those cyan/red glasses.
It's just a bit harder on the processor, you should be fine though... it doesn't make much difference all it does is alternate lines so it appears to be 3d with the polarization of the lenses. It's not really that much harder on the card... the driver just does interlace scanning on the games, and alternates with each flicker so the glasses picks up different modes. You should be fine with this laptop :P
First thing you should do is downgrade, ASUS has a good forum about how to do this properly. I have had the most stable experience with XP Pro SP3, more than any of my PCs over the years. Make sure to run explorer windows as seperate processes once you get installed.
Games: Fallout 3, UT3, UT2k4 (edit the ini for widescreen), Shaun White (you can crank it up and use nvidia control panel to add AA, AF, Triple Buffer, VSync and still smooth in XP not vista though DX10 don't even get me started)
First thing, if you're going to be using a directx 10 card you should be using directx 10 if you're playing games. So no, you should not downgrade, you should upgrade to vista ultimate edition. The only reason people find XP more stable is because their older hardware is not compatible and they don't have enough ram and processor. This machine is built for vista. XP doesn't even support AHCI natively which makes an OS run extremely slow. As you can see my video responses, games I play just fine.
And please, get started on DX10. Tell me how bad it is, for each reason you can give me that it's bad I can add two to why it's better. I'd really like to see you complain about Windows 7 and DirectX 11. Really, if you're wanting to bash microsoft's software why are you using it?
C'mon dude my eyes don't lie to me. The games run slower and you can't run some programs and games that are older. It's a no brainer.
You should downgrade so you can dual boot at least. DX10 isn't needed, and the Vista scores are innacurrate as is most of the technical mumbo jumbo. XP is more stable and works great. MS done a good job. Stop putting words in my mouth.
This laptop comes with Vista 64. It's fast but unstable. So is Windows 7. XP isn't slow. That commment says a lot.
Like I said when running older outdated hardware vista will not run as well. XP only supports 2.83GB of ram as where Vista supports 16GB of ram. Common sense tells us, if you have more ram and a quad core processor... games will run faster. Way faster than XP could ever dream of running any game. As for stability, XP has been out since 2001, they changed a lot in vista and 90% of it is fixed in Windows 7. Compatibility to driver issues. Whenever you move to a new system things will always break
I don't know if you were around when Windows XP first came out but there were a whole mess of problems then also. Way more than there are with vista, people hated XP at first. You have to remember, and it is extremely important to remember... Operating systems aren't programmed for the past. They aren't geared for past hardware. They are aimed for the future. They don't want their operating system being outdated in a week. Hardware has to play catchup. People have to be more open minded.
The point I am trying to get to is that I agree with what you say, except right now none of that matters. In the future everyone will have to upgrade. XP will lose support, etc and W7 will be the way to go but for ME it isn't better right now with what I do. I've never seen anything use more than 2 gig yet in LCD Hype. It's cool it works for you. I will give it a go again in the future but I can't have stuff crashing right now..
I dunno people, sounds like you just don't even want to try or know how to downgrade for yourselves. It's a must for most people. You can't even install Splinter Cell Chaos Theory without XP, and there are still people online. I don't play it any more, but I'm telling you if you have this laptop sooner or later you are going to want to downgrade because there are way more crashes. I got this when it was new and haven't had any problems in XP. W7 BSOD, Vista64 unrecoverable lockup. Chose.
MW won't install? It installed perfectly fine for me on my system. (Vista Ultimate x64 SP2)
Heck, the only instabilty I have on this Vista (Or the HTPC's W7) is when I get to uptimes of145 hours, for example, I doubt my laptop will ever hit that.
Plus, Windows 7 is MUCH better for batteries than Vista or XP.
Well my wife likes it, she has an older laptop. For me, I didn't make a list but too many things weren't working and the lockups and crashes scared me into finally downgrading. Luckily I remembered you can take your battery out to reset the RAM. I eventually did go to W7 64-bit and it "safely crashed" and shut down, but then wouldn't boot. That was the last straw. Could be because of the up time, like you said but still XP recovers and can restore in 5 minutes with PING if not.
I did a system restore with the one button thingy that ASUS already had (so you don't have to use disks). Whatever it is that I do seems to not work well with Vista/W7. I buy all my favorite games and programs so I don't think it's any hacks or anything.
I do a lot of LAN gaming.
In a search, lots of network related ASUS mobo probs in showed up...My PC is also ASUS parts and W7 x86 locked up when it used a PCI LAN but not the USB one.

That really depends on many things. I can't tell you what to do on this area because I don't know your lfiestyle. I don't know if you travel a lot, how often you use a computer... Do you believe in warranty's? A lot of people see them as a scam to make more money. I myself have had this laptop for just a few months. So far it shows no signs of death. Every electronic is different and can die at any time. I personally didn't get any warranty's.
I have the one before the one in black and silver its alright computer, i have three a xps m1530, and dell precision m6400 which i am currently typing on but this pretty alright but crappy computer anyway it should of had a backlight keyboard but the new one coming to best buy has it.

It's not a bad machine... however MSI is infamous for bad capacitors. The graphics card isn't as good. That one has a little larger LCD but the processor is not as fast. The Asus has a slot for a second hard drive, the MSI does not. Asus has a secondary OLED panel which you can fully customize, the MSI does not. Not to mention the cosmetic details and lights. I still find the Asus better. But each to his own. MSI is cheaper... for a reason.
i just picked that up Sunday. It is the best. I am on it right know. I can play Crysis Warhead on every setting on Mainstream, and 30-50 FPS!! Thats really good!

WIndows 7 ISN'T unstable either, neither is Vista, Neither is XP, XP is old and out-dated, 7 and Vista are fast, new and not outdated.

I dunno people, sounds like you just don't even want to try or know how to downgrade for yourselves. It's a must for most people. You can't even install Splinter Cell Chaos Theory without XP, and there are still people online. I don't play it any more, but I'm telling you if you have this laptop sooner or later you are going to want to downgrade because there are way more crashes. I got this when it was new and haven't had any problems in XP. W7 BSOD, Vista64 unrecoverable lockup. Chose.

Oh yeah, NFS MW don't install either. Two of the best games ever made don't install. Great OS.

MW won't install? It installed perfectly fine for me on my system. (Vista Ultimate x64 SP2)
Heck, the only instabilty I have on this Vista (Or the HTPC's W7) is when I get to uptimes of145 hours, for example, I doubt my laptop will ever hit that.
Plus, Windows 7 is MUCH better for batteries than Vista or XP.

Well my wife likes it, she has an older laptop. For me, I didn't make a list but too many things weren't working and the lockups and crashes scared me into finally downgrading. Luckily I remembered you can take your battery out to reset the RAM. I eventually did go to W7 64-bit and it "safely crashed" and shut down, but then wouldn't boot. That was the last straw. Could be because of the up time, like you said but still XP recovers and can restore in 5 minutes with PING if not.

Weird, Vista does that for me, as does W7... Did you try a reinstalling? That can help.

I did a system restore with the one button thingy that ASUS already had (so you don't have to use disks). Whatever it is that I do seems to not work well with Vista/W7. I buy all my favorite games and programs so I don't think it's any hacks or anything.
I do a lot of LAN gaming.
In a search, lots of network related ASUS mobo probs in showed up...My PC is also ASUS parts and W7 x86 locked up when it used a PCI LAN but not the USB one.

Hi, I was looking this laptop on Tigerdirect and buying it online for Refurbished for $740, should I get an extra warranty plan for $150 for it? or just the laptop, it however like all other laptops come with its own manufacturer warranty of 3 months or something like that, so, shud i get extra warranty if its that cheap?

That really depends on many things. I can't tell you what to do on this area because I don't know your lfiestyle. I don't know if you travel a lot, how often you use a computer... Do you believe in warranty's? A lot of people see them as a scam to make more money. I myself have had this laptop for just a few months. So far it shows no signs of death. Every electronic is different and can die at any time. I personally didn't get any warranty's.

Well usually when they start clearing out stock (Best Buy is now running it as an outlet), that means there are new models coming out.
There will possibly be more out right before school starts up again in the fall for their back to school deals.
And I agree, great computer. My friend has it and I kind of envy him...

It's not a bad machine... however MSI is infamous for bad capacitors. The graphics card isn't as good. That one has a little larger LCD but the processor is not as fast. The Asus has a slot for a second hard drive, the MSI does not. Asus has a secondary OLED panel which you can fully customize, the MSI does not. Not to mention the cosmetic details and lights. I still find the Asus better. But each to his own. MSI is cheaper... for a reason.

i just picked that up Sunday. It is the best. I am on it right know. I can play Crysis Warhead on every setting on Mainstream, and 30-50 FPS!! Thats really good!

You'll save some money on the Asus, but the Gateway is a bit more powerful and looks more professional.
