re conn88key, I was never aware that Cliff Gallup visited England. I remember GV playing over here but I think they were largely Pick up bands like Sounds Incorporated.
I think there is too much delay here , it should just be a slap back with a bit of reverb , but beside that it sounded good ! did you strung your guitar with flatwound strings like cliff did ?
Thanks!! I used Fender 59 Bassman and Maestro Echoplex or Danelectro Reel Echo. Because I have both, I'm not sure, but both can make the almost same sound.
I have to go with Yarder on this one. I've got nothing against a learner playing - in fact I would encourage absolutely anybody to pick up an instrument, it makes the world a better place - but to hold a huge collection of incredible Gretsches when the owner hasn't mastered even one of them... That's just greedy in my opinion.
Are you implying that StrayMouse is a learner? Look at this video and the others he is playing well beyond that of a learner. He is a very efficient player. And if he wants to own these Gretsches he has every right to. Let's see your video or Yarder's video first before you say these things.
I agree. It's always these know-it-alls, and nine times out of ten they have NO videos themselves, that talk junk about somebody else. Kinda like the guys who never played sports but know it all .. know what I mean ??
well done kid you got the real deal and cliff never had that bridge(doesnt matter though) i played with the original blue caps in england and i was a bluecap for the night(wow)for all the purist out there cliff never liked the studio sound produced for him in anyway and thats gospel. keep rockin kid and dont let anyone put you down enjoy rocknroll there only jealous and most of all develop your own signature way of playing. good luck wayne

i suggest first on you playing and then buy such a good guitar..its how good the guitar the better u sound..give any crappy guitar to page or and it will sound great..
Not an expert but way too much echo compared to the original. Also, not sure he had a melita (maybe?). Got a Gretsch roundup (dynas) with a Bigsby bridge and with a Fender Twin Amp and HH multi echo, can get very similar sound to the mighty Cliff...
its close, try backing off the volume on your slapback a bit and trying one of the many ways to level off your attack since its way too strong, maybe try a more rounded pick
not even close to cliff! nice guitar but that dont make you a guitarist! try not rushing, and listen maybe a metronome..... but i like your passion stick at it mate
Stray, I like your guitar playing and I like that guitar. Could you do some more videos of you playing that guitar. I see a lot with your 6120s which are very nice but love to see some more with your Duo Jet. Thanks.
The Bassman is a Fender reissue. I have a clone 59Bassman(not Fender) also, but I think the reissue one is better for the sound. The clone has a strong middle range, but the reissue has wide range. In order to make the Cliff Gallup's sound, an amp with a wide-range and clean sound is fine, I think. Jeff Beck also used a reissue Fender Bassman on the recording of "Crazy Legs". Have you heard the CD? That is a great and perfect sound.
Yes,I have that cd.I have(or had) a Fender reissue 59 Bassman.Did Cliff use a Bassman?or other tweed?A friend built an exact replica pine cabinet for my reissue and then I removed the factory circuit board and other junk and hand wired it just like an original 59.Sounds really great. Those reissues are not very true to the originals.UL labratories make Fender put lots of stuff in there that were not in originals and they use 1/4 watt resistors where the old ones use 1/2 watt ones.Try it.Dan
Yeah,I bought that cd the day it came out.I heard that Beck kept turning the volume down and it kept sounding better.I guess things were recorded much quieter back then.Did you hear that Cliff's wife sent Beck some of his picks? But she flattened the steel fingerpicks so they would lay flat in an envelope.Dan
cliff gallup will whip your a@# ! ..i was gonna say something else but they might be kids readin' this.. sound great...cut bak a lil on the slap back....awesome guitar ! wish i had it . oh yeah and...Billy Zoom rocks!!!!!!!!!!
