Idk, they left it wide open. He could go either way. This season they had a lot of hints that his life would turn out different, obviously the finale kinda changed that. Still, the series could go either way. I don't think he's gonna let his son grow up the same way he did though.
I have watched the last episode several times and the writers made a big mistake getting rid of Rita. There is nowhere to go with it now that can top where it has been, DEXTER is over for me, regardless of what they do now.
That ending sucked because we now have to wait for some kind of closure if any but Dexter is based on the books by Jeff Lindsay and there is enough material to last for many seasons to come wait till you see how ritas kids turn out.
the ending sucked cause trinity won, rita dies, the kids are left motherless, dexter is destroyed and trinity not only wasen't scared to die but was ready for it. dexter even turned his toy train on for him and played the music he loved, fuck that child killer, i would have smashed that train and record. The only way they can make it up is if rita isn't dead, then maybe i can let go of trinity not dying in fear but at peace. if he killed rita and it's real, then he completely won.

It's just so sad that Rita died that way. Especially cause I remember that it was said how she always was surrounded by bad people or attracted bad people.(Im not sure) And her last scenes she was so sweet to Dexter and the things she said to him. In the finale he knocks out Trinity and goes to talk to the police why did he leave Trinity alive rather then just snap his neck? If he was afraid of police finding Arthur how would knocked out Arthur be better then Dead Arthur? Given that he had enough doubt about how eaisly he could get out of the broken window situation to hide the money and the keys why did he not at least tie Arthur up?

I'm glad Rita got iced. Don't get me wrong I understand why she was needed in the series for the story and such, but to me the episodes just kind of slowed down with her and the boring drama moments she causes. Season 1 was slamming, 2 wasn't bad. 3 was real Rita heavy and it sucked, 4 has been good thanks to Lithgow, now with that bore out of the way I'm pretty optimistic about 5 having more things going on rather than "Where were you Dexter?" over and over.
To hell with that. I think the show needed Rita. For one she was the one person besides Debra (that needy bitch) who kept Dexters mind together. Now without her I think he's gonna go fuckin crazy for real in season 5. Imagine coming home to see your wife murdered by the same man u just killed and now having to deal with 3 kids, a demanding job, and an urge to kill ALONE. I wouldnt have been this much upset if Debra hadnt survived her gunshots, but killig off Rita was not the way to go.
Yeah I know, I said she may have been important for story reasons. I just said I felt that she slowed down the scenes with here drama about Dexter lying and all that junk. And I think next season is gonna have a lot more stuff going on based on her death, so it'll be more interesting.
yea...especially it will also link him back to "kyle butler", their family knows dexter by that name, and the fact that he was in the crime scene way earlier than everyone else, now the worst part, rita is killed in the same m.o. as the trinity killer, so unless dexter goes ahead and chop her into pieces and dump her into the ocean, there will be alot of questions.... my god these writers are crazy, they're not making their jobs easy, which is why this show's so incredible.
every season i think..."there's no way the writers can make this work this time"... and they've proved me wrong everytime, i hope they'll do it again next season. and remember, dexter used to work alone, all this family stuff was just a front which took more and more part in his life....next season will be really interesting.

Great twist although maybe Rita was the balance of the protagonist he always was searching for.
i thought quinn was going to be the doakes of season 2 this time, good thing he never went that far even though he did do some background research on dexter half way through, glad he didn't go too far. personally i hope dexter goes mental and start displaying his work like his brother used to....not sure how that will be helpful but... and you're right... trinity went to the police station, maybe a few people would hv seen him with dexter, he would hv been on the cameras... ooh dear
@matdevil, I dont think the kids will actually go live with the goofy grand parents. They might be the ones baby sitting from now on but dexter wont give them up, and debra dosnt have the time to babysit. Tell you the truth I think both batista and quinn will go hard on dexter. quinn for sure and it will get him ended up like doakes, but remember the fbi has the case now so without getting there asses chewed too much, batista and quinn will dig, but I expect another fbi top dog/ lundy fiasco.
The main point Dexter took away from Trinity prior to the season finale is that serial killers CAN hide, have families, look normal, etc. Now all of that is thrown out the window, especially since Trinity was leaving his family anyway before he was killed. So, the lesson turned out to be an empty one. Besides, the whole family theme waters down the overall theme of the show in the first place. Maybe Dexter will kill all of his children in season 5 and the series will be back on track.
Yeah exactly. I don't mind him having a baby because it's relevant about him having a family, but the baby won't ruin it with overly-dramatic dialogue and annoying shit like Rita did.
Dexter should have killed trinity when he had the chance i feel sorry for the killers in season 5 there's gonna be no hesitation now. dexter is gonna go hard.

I have watched the last episode several times and the writers made a big mistake getting rid of Rita. There is nowhere to go with it now that can top where it has been, DEXTER is over for me, regardless of what they do now.

That ending sucked because we now have to wait for some kind of closure if any but Dexter is based on the books by Jeff Lindsay and there is enough material to last for many seasons to come wait till you see how ritas kids turn out.

the ending sucked cause trinity won, rita dies, the kids are left motherless, dexter is destroyed and trinity not only wasen't scared to die but was ready for it. dexter even turned his toy train on for him and played the music he loved, fuck that child killer, i would have smashed that train and record. The only way they can make it up is if rita isn't dead, then maybe i can let go of trinity not dying in fear but at peace. if he killed rita and it's real, then he completely won.

I doubt that. I was thinking after the finale that Dexter is probably gonna end up adopting them. He is there step father though so he does have some kind of rights with them I would guess.

this episode was pretty shitty if you ask me, after 4 seasons of dexter thinking he doesnt have emotion and slowly relizing that he does, they really make it look like he has none at all at the end, they need to make up their minds with the writing, does he have emotion or not....

Not 100% sure when.. (or even if he is the one who killed her). It could be when Dexter and the police Squad is at Arthur's house. Or it could be just as soon as Dexter leaves his house. Maybe Arthur was watching Dexter's house in the morning when they drove off.

It's just so sad that Rita died that way. Especially cause I remember that it was said how she always was surrounded by bad people or attracted bad people.(Im not sure) And her last scenes she was so sweet to Dexter and the things she said to him. It's just fucked up and shocking, but amazing for taking it that far.

One thing bugs me about the about seasons 2+: Dexter has become a retard.
SPOILER:
In the finale he knocks out Trinity and goes to talk to the police why did he leave Trinity alive rather then just snap his neck? If he was afraid of police finding Arthur how would knocked out Arthur be better then Dead Arthur? Given that he had enough doubt about how eaisly he could get out of the broken window situation to hide the money and the keys why did he not at least tie Arthur up?

I have just seen the finale and it took my breath away. Like you say, Trinity probably would have laid in wait or just pounced on Rita; she would have been helpless. Just Damn! Dexter was sloppy and could have taken out Trinity before and now his wife is dead. Goddammit!

I'm glad Rita got iced. Don't get me wrong I understand why she was needed in the series for the story and such, but to me the episodes just kind of slowed down with her and the boring drama moments she causes. Season 1 was slamming, 2 wasn't bad. 3 was real Rita heavy and it sucked, 4 has been good thanks to Lithgow, now with that bore out of the way I'm pretty optimistic about 5 having more things going on rather than "Where were you Dexter?" over and over.

To hell with that. I think the show needed Rita. For one she was the one person besides Debra (that needy bitch) who kept Dexters mind together. Now without her I think he's gonna go fuckin crazy for real in season 5. Imagine coming home to see your wife murdered by the same man u just killed and now having to deal with 3 kids, a demanding job, and an urge to kill ALONE. I wouldnt have been this much upset if Debra hadnt survived her gunshots, but killig off Rita was not the way to go.

Yeah I know, I said she may have been important for story reasons. I just said I felt that she slowed down the scenes with here drama about Dexter lying and all that junk. And I think next season is gonna have a lot more stuff going on based on her death, so it'll be more interesting.

yea...especially it will also link him back to "kyle butler", their family knows dexter by that name, and the fact that he was in the crime scene way earlier than everyone else, now the worst part, rita is killed in the same m.o. as the trinity killer, so unless dexter goes ahead and chop her into pieces and dump her into the ocean, there will be alot of questions.... my god these writers are crazy, they're not making their jobs easy, which is why this show's so incredible.

I put a dollar on Batista being the doakes of season 2, the stare when he saw the trinity killer and dex together couls be highlited if they expand on the trinity killer thing on season 5 since they got a picture now.
Great twist although maybe Rita was the balance of the protagonist he always was searching for.

i thought quinn was going to be the doakes of season 2 this time, good thing he never went that far even though he did do some background research on dexter half way through, glad he didn't go too far. personally i hope dexter goes mental and start displaying his work like his brother used to....not sure how that will be helpful but... and you're right... trinity went to the police station, maybe a few people would hv seen him with dexter, he would hv been on the cameras... ooh dear

They might be the ones baby sitting from now on but dexter wont give them up, and debra dosnt have the time to babysit. Tell you the truth I think both batista and quinn will go hard on dexter. quinn for sure and it will get him ended up like doakes, but remember the fbi has the case now so without getting there asses chewed too much, batista and quinn will dig, but I expect another fbi top dog/ lundy fiasco.

The main point Dexter took away from Trinity prior to the season finale is that serial killers CAN hide, have families, look normal, etc. Now all of that is thrown out the window, especially since Trinity was leaving his family anyway before he was killed. So, the lesson turned out to be an empty one. Besides, the whole family theme waters down the overall theme of the show in the first place. Maybe Dexter will kill all of his children in season 5 and the series will be back on track.
