In fact, Swan lit public buildings with his bulbs, including his own house, before Edison patented his version in America, irrespective of who else you think invented it. There were several other inventors before Thomas Edison that had prototypes for the lightbulb, actually on July 24, 1874, Henry Woodward patented an electric light bulb, but unfortunately could not afford to produce them. Thomas Edison bought the patent off of Woodward in 1879, later that year Edison demonstrated his light bulb and then Edison filed for his patent in 1880. I find this highly suspicious, I believe Edison took the work from Woodward.

In a way, Edison didn`t invent the lightbulb. But the other guy that was experimented with light-bulbs, could only make it work for a minute or so. Edisons first bulb lighted for about 40 hours. thomas edison came to canada and he invented the light bulb in canada not the u.s.a in vienna close to port burwell!!! i know this cause i had to do a project about thomas edison!
