  • just the best, cats bats and scary ghouls!!!

  • i like have they move at 1:57 pretty scary for that date :)

  • You can download full movie here; ht tp :/ /rutor.org/ torrent/ 75203/ vij-1967-dvdrip-ot-fs-media-restavrirovannyj but without english subtitles

  • this is the first time i have ever heard of this film it looks wonderful?

  • i first saw this movie at my university class.

    interesting movie...!

  • Wow, that was an incredible piece of film and unlike anything I can remember seeing, apart maybe from the black magic sequence in Haxan. I've ordered my copy on Amazon.com

Can't wait to see the rest of this lost gem in all it's glory.

  • how old is this

  • Kl That was impressive for 1967, i liked the bit starting at 1:56 with the... whatever they are... climbing down the wall thats a creepy image, i reckon it influenced that bit in the exorsist with the girl going backwards down the stairs on all fours

anyway i might try get a copy of this now

  • In soviet russia filthy hands clean you!

  • i quite want to see the whole movie now. Plus that girl is super cute.

  • These gray, deformed, cartoon-eyed demons are vastly more disturbing and fascinating than the overly sleek, vicious CG creatures of today. Modern monsters lack that wonderful element of eeriness.

  • When i first saw this i was 4 and i was terrified, and till this day it creeps me out and i am almost 18

  • old but gold

  • wow I gotta get a copy of this w/ subs

  • ya tak davno ego xotela posmotret'! mojo samoe lyubimoe proizvedenie Gogolya s detstva. ny plus "ytoplenitsa" a che tam novij film vihod?

  • :D pz galvojau tikrai bus baisiau mano vaizduotej baisiau atrode :D

  • The effects in this film are far more compelling than the majority of Hollywood films offer today!

  • This movie was shot in 1967 idiot.

  • Though It's not scary, but still totally artistic as most of soviet movies. Kuravlev is so cute. I'm very sorry he dies

  • Kuravlev is steel live...)) you not right)) eeehhh...

  • Comment removed

  • lol its "still" not "steel"..among other grammatical mistakes..

  • Thanks God, Leonid Kuravlev is alive. That's his character, Homa, who dies.

  • A damn fine finale, that one is!

  • Beautttifuul, what her name pls?, What the name of the movie? it doenst look OLD to me, how u define "old"anyway?OLD to me woudl be like "ivan grosny" by Esisstein (1944)

  • The actress is Natalya Varley. Check out "Kidnapping Caucasian Style" (Кавказская пленница) to see her in a more comedic role. She was indeed a real beauty.

  • Natalia Varley plays the witch.

The movie name is Viy (or Vij).

The movie was bought to be shown in the USA in 1970.

  • first russian horror movie,

    i like it.

  • hey,its just like that on the London Tube!

  • dude, I have read stories of A.F.Afanasiev a long time ago. These are russian national fairytales, so noone is the autor. And Vij is something like vampire in english or вампир in serbian.

  • well it really scared my mom when she was little

  • It´s from Gogol and I know a fantastic radio version !!!

  • what a great movie! D:

    i loved the witch x3

  • I can see how in the 1960's this would be absolutely horrifying.

  • It was sick, but I really like it! Great visual effects!!

  • first russian horror film?

  • yes

    it's 1967

  • Not really. The first Russian horror movie (based on the same srory) was a silent movie created by a director Vasiliy Goncharov in 1909.

  • In one words that's....creative!

  • You know, at the time they made this movie (without all the technology we have today) they didn't actually do a half-bad job at all.

  • That was pretty scary!

  • that was amazing..

    and she was extremely beautiful.

  • LMFAO, that skeleton looked so funny! xD

  • Skelet woobsche otpad, na weröwo4kach. Pomnü perwij ras etot film widela, rebjönkom esche sowsem bila, no4i 3 sasnutj potom ne mogla.

  • Dlja tawo wremini on byl "otschen straschnym"

A sewodnja on wyglidit kak komedia!

Dschal schto nekto is goliwuda ne imel interesa

snjat ewo wnofj! Tagda by on stal w pjat ras lutsche!

  • They have, look for " Viy or Spirit of Evil (English subtitles). Part 1 of 8. " on YouTube.

  • The new Vij is SHITE,

but this 1967 Vij original is a work of genius , its well ahead of its time. One of russia's finest.

It is one of the best Horror films around!

Cant download it though there are no seeders!

    what an irony!

  • try the Emule software u can find it there and download it

  • Natalia Varley - the most beautiful witch ever! :-)

    she is gorgeous!

  • Vij probably looks disappointing, but it is just a mechanical device (like a locator) used by evil to locate and destroy guys like that poor student :).

  • She is soo beautiful!

and come to think of it, he is quite dishy.

  • yes, rather chalky as well.

  • I'm an American and I love the movie -- parts of it still truly creepy today, despite the unintentional campy humor of the chattering skeletons (and the rather disappointing "Vij" himself!).

  • Im sure russia did other horror movies before there was color film.....not likely to be the FIRST.

  • Its very cool for 1967... I could say its cool for 1982 for example... but Vij's eyes :D

  • It's just a small part of the whole movie. But it is really cool, I mean - nicely done - for the year 1967 :-)

  • it is a movie based on Gogol book, which is really powerful, when you read it :)

  • yeah but it's not for american brain

    LOL

  • Lol :D somehow it looks more of a comedy to me than horror :)
