This movie was atrocious, I first saw it when I was in my teens, and it was rotten to me even then, even though it had two things that provided great entertainment for a teenage boy....a really fine looking little convertible, a true classic as I would learn later, and Trish Van Devere...so hot! For years I got it in my head that the car was a custom MG of some kind (like an MG Arnolt ) I was really unaware of the BMW 503 in my younger years. Beautiful classy car, rare as hens teeth.
This is the first scene of this 1971 classic. It's one of those scenes where they're doing "character development". For you folks that don't know what he's doing, I'll explain. He's rebuilding, adjusting, and balancing multiple carburetors. Then, he's checking the ignition timing with a timing (strobe) light. This was WAY before computerized ignition and electronic fuel injection eliminated these tasks.
