No they are not skate shoes. It was once o those tricks that were popular in the 80s. Its actually discovered by accident. Some kid/ guy was walking down the stairs and slipped but because he maintained his balance he slid down like that. So the next u see people trying to do that on wet stairs. But since then many found out it works just as well with shoes that have soles that are almost bald. Or shoes with less grip.
