  • - Great videos! - How can a person "dislike" this information or any info...

  • dont you have to be rich to own one of these things or an off grid home?

  • @nocturnalserpent

Well if I am rich I would hate to be a poor person! The cabin cost $2000 to build the power system was $3000.

  • Very nice videos! This one was very helpful and I know alot more about solarcells now!

  • @solarcabin i was curious if could use a capacitor such as a 20 farad capacitor that you would use for car audio systems?

  • I found that Missouri Wind and Solar has an 800 watt wind turbine and an all in one charge controller that can also be used with solar panels, has a 3-phase brake switch for the wind turbine, a load diverting capability when batteries are fully charged, and the total price is $779.

I noticed that Northern Arizona Wind and Sun is cheaper for solar panels, though.

  • @BullittMcQueen1

That's a good price. Read customer reviews and see what kind of warranty they give.

  • @solarcabin -- Missouri Wind and Solar offers a one-year warranty. That seems pretty good. I am not sure the reviews on a company's own website. The controller they offer can handle up to 440 amps and 5,000 watts at 12 volts. But it has a basic load diverting system that can only handle 600 watts. If you get more power generation, you have to get more load diverting capacity. Does your system have load diverting? Where does the excess power go?

  • @BullittMcQueen1

The Air X does not require a diverter and the power controller is built in. It shuts down when the batteries are full so it won't overcharge the batts.

  • @solarcabin -- Now I understand why their wind turbines are cheaper -- they don't have as many features. They have a 1600-watt wind turbine for $600. I suppose a person could just manually turn off the wind turbine when the batteries are nearly charged. For those on the grid, they could divert power with an inverter to the grid. I was looking online and I see Chinese-made 1,200-watt grid-tie inverters for $250, and the inverters can be stacked for more wattage. All you have to do is plug it in.

  • that is false the power company will not pay you for "power you poduce"

  • @foxvalley560400

Many states and counties pay you as a rebate on your power bill for grid tied systems. Check with your state for incentives.

  • @foxvalley560400 -- Most states do require the electric companies to pay you for feeding electricity into the grid.

  • Most awesome, great Video, just what I wanted.

  • you inspired me sir..thanks for the vid

  • with off grid can u use braker boxes? and wire your huse with outlets?

  • Why don't you build your own panels since its normally about 1/2 the price of buying it already built. I'm sure you have seen the vidoes on youtube of many who build their own and 1/2 the price. Whats your thoughts? Thanks Lamar.

  • @flyingrv6

Making panels end up costing more with no warranty. Better to buy new or used.

  • they have to bake that rebate into the price so we can scale up

  • @ss11s

I purchased all my equipment before the rebates. Still the best option for an off-grid home.

  • WooooooooW Reaally quality video. Thanks for putting all that time and effort in creating the vids. Thanks!! 10/10

  • great video.

    thank you so much.

  • I'm so glad I found and subscribed to this channel. I'll be buying the book when I'm ready to build.

  • Isn't it only the US Federal Government that gives you the 30% back?

  • @w1ldyovvnz

Some states also have a state rebate available. Check with your state for the rebate.

  • @solarcabin I dont live in the US, thats why I was wondering if other countries gave those rebates.

  • Very nice video Lamar! That 135 is gonna be NICE!

Where IM at, and itching to do something, is I have 2 HB 45watt kits, at this point IM wanting to get me an ensupra grid tie inverter (550w) its a plug and play inverter, and I can add up to the 550W+...this will help reduce my power bill alots being I dont use that much power anyway. IM watching, thanks for posting!! Thumbs up~~John

  • Great video and excellent book! Best $7 that I spent on the subject. I'm looking forward to more...

  • Thumbs up, if you think LaMar should have the title "Godfather of off grid living" ...

  • I picked up his PDF version of his book for a $1 around Easter.Excellent read.

    I do recommend his book.

  • Awesome video. Whats your opinion of buying individual solar cells and putting them together?

  • @goat20101

It can be done but by the time you buy the cells, make a case, and wire it you probably won't save much money and you won't have the warranty of a new panel.

  • Superb!

  • excellent information

  • I have one of LaMar's Books and I can tell the public that his books are absolutely the easiest to understand and the most useful books I have EVER read in my life. I am not affiliated with LaMar in any way shape or form but just a very satisified customer! Get one of his books! Warning!!! They are addictive!

  • Excellent information - as always. Thank you!

  • Thank you so much LaMar! Your videos are always so informative and helpful even though I've never done anything like this before. I learn a lot of very valuable information from you.

I also have a question. How large of a file is your e-book? My hard drive is pretty full at the moment and I couldn't find the file size on your website. I think I will probably be buying the printed copy soon anyway, but I'd like to know just in case.

Thank you for all that you do!!!

  • @GreenEggsAndHamster

It is 52M but you can download and then burn to a cd so it won't take up hard drive space.

  • Thanks for reminding me of the safety aspects of solar! I'm tuned in for Part Two.

  • Very cool, I cant wait for the rest of this series! As far as the government rebate, does the system have to be installed by a professional to be able to get the rebate? That is how it was for my states rebates so I never really gave the federal one a thought.

  • Hey Lamar. You really have done a great job on your videos. FYI, UL is Underwriters Laboratories, an INDEPENDENT & NOT FOR PROFIT Organization. They are not Government Affiliated in any way. Also, not every Solar Panel will be UL Approved or Tested, but that does not mean it is inferior. But you will find that to use for a GRID TIE System, you will need UL Certified Panels. It is quite a controversy actually. Just wanted to toss that out at you. Keep up the Great Work.

    Ron

  • @ThePauperPrepper

Thanks Ron- Some of my panels are not UL listed but if you want the fed rebate or for a grid tied system they require UL equipment.

  • i did a test off grid last night with just batteries an the inverter been putting all this system together and researching for three months. soon the windturbine will arrive and get everything all together. Can not wait to call the electricity company and disconnect it for good!

  • nice video. thank you for your great work. I am getting ready to buy my acre and will use your book i got via e-mail as my guide line to building my off grid home. thank you again
