  • I'm in pharmacy school, and currently learning this. I believe this is the wrong technique... From my lecture notes:

    1)Wash hands

2)Remove cap and tilt head back

3)Form a pocket by pulling lower eyelid down and away

    4) Avoid touching tip of tube to eye, apply a thin ribbon of ointment to inner surface of eyelid

5)Release eyelid and gently close eye

    6) Keep eye closed for 1-2 minutes, during this time rotate eyes to distribute medication

    7) Wipe off excess ointment with tissue and rewash hands

I'm a PhC Student as well. It is pertinent to mention that people should not touch the ointment (as this makes it unsterile) and that they should be applying a line, about 1cm in size, of ointment to the pocket formed when the eyelid is depressed.

  • Thanks for the heads up!

  • i been doing this but it don't seem too help Ive been using it for 7 days now my eye lid still didn't go back to normal

  • Eye doctors have always told me not to touch the eye ointment with my fingers as that can contaminate the ointment. That you should apply the ointment by gently pulling your lower eyelid out just enough to squeeze a bit of ointment directly from the tube into the pocket (without touching the ointment). My problem is that the ointment curls around the tip of the tube and won't go directly into the lower eyelid pocket.

  • @artmwt Try warming it up in your hand first (NEVER the microwave or anything else artificial) or holding it closer to your eye.

  • thank you so much you helped me alot ^^
