I think Selby is an absolute disgrace to this sport. Being snookered and intentionally played with such a pace to either intentionally foul or hit in hope. Unprofessional.
I hateeeeeeeee Mark Selby with a passion, boreing, horrible to watch person, but it seems you have to be that to be world number one in snooker...ie, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry. Best two players to of ever played the game is Ronnie and Judd Trump, Judd Trump i would say is the best ever. In this video Mark Selby did brush the red ball first, they was no way he could of hit the pink first at that angel. I love Mark Williams but I think he was wrong on this one and thats whats cost him the frame.
i do not nurse a vendetta against mark selby - i nurse a vendetta against people who cheat and exemplify poor sportsmanship that is detrimental to the sport, other players and spectators watching the sport.
fortunately for snooker, mark selby is the only person in the sport with the abovesaid characteristics.
theres an easy way to tell which ball selby hit first here
pause around 12:09 ( so you can see the trajectory of the white off the long rail ) and then pause again at 12:10 - 12:11 and observe the path taken by the red.
it appears to be more than a 90 degree cut, indicating that the white caromed off the pink into the red sending it in that direction
@straightshooter141 I was trying to explain exactly this! It did come off the pink into the red. This also explains the pace of the red (slow vs pace of the pink). But the angles do prove your point!
if you know mark williams, you would know how ignorant of a comment you are making. mark williams is one of the fairest, most laid back and sportsmanlike players on the circuit. he would own up to any foul he commits - and that has been proven - as he has done so many times during matches. he would also be the first to congratulate a winning opponent.
by saying hendry wouldn't - i'm assuming you know this as fact? or else, that is another really stupid comment.

IF the pink was contacted first, by the time the red moves a tiny bit the pink would have shot off. However you can see that the red starts moving at the SAME time as the pink, which indicates that it had a head start (via first contact). The velocity of the pink is so much greater than the red such that if it was contacted first, it would have moved ALOT more before the red had any visible movement.
Its difficult to call. I have been trying to pause this clip when the ball hits for ages and it does seem that the pink takes off just before the red does (Just as julian1471 said lol). The ball hits just around 12.09 ish in the clip and every time I see it, I get the feeling the pink is being hit first. Would say that I am unbiased on the situation as I am scottish :P. Tough call for the ref though and an understandable decision :) Hard for a match to be decided like that.
If it's a simultaneous contact, that's still a foul. At that speed (even slowed down), it's not clear that the cueball definitely hit the red before the pink. That's a foul, surely?!
i wish the commentry was in english id love to hear what virgo or dennis taylor thought of it, as for mark selby himself, snooker is a gentlemans game and he doesnt play it like a gentleman and thats why nobody respects him i cant wait till he's thrown off the number 1 spot cause theres several young players out there that could do that number 1 more justice than he has
He definately hit red first tbh he won it fair and square...mark could still of won the next 2 frames but he didnt so i think your beinga bit unfair on selby
yeh i think so, first im no.1 fan of TheRocketExpress and i watch it a lot! from what i see the replay it did hit the red first as i tell from where the white goes after hitting the balls. if it hit pink first than red, the line white ball going would change a bit. this is what i think and i could be wrong, anyway im not fan of them.
to add insult to injury, this is what classless mark selby had to say in his post-match interview:
"It was very difficult for the referee to see which ball I hit first," added Selby. "Mark felt I hit the pink and I wasn't sure. The referee studied it and felt it had hit the red first, and we accepted that."
I´m so sad that Mark Williams didn´t won it, it would have been a great achievement to win it under these circunstances and would certanly stun Selby and maybe make him change his game in the future....I´m dreaming a bit...lol
williams was clearly very upset by that incident. you don't usually see him missing greens off the spot and slamming balls w/o even looking at the table beforehand.
whatever the outcome of this tournament, its always a displeasure to watch such matches - that are marred by extremely poor sportsmanship and horribly wrong refereeing decisions.
i've never seen mark williams lose his cool in a match - this is the 1st time so i'm guessing his level of displeasure is the same as mine.

why these stupid commentators and all the people in the venue keep laughing? It's not a funny moment... how rude.

Have been watching snooker for ages and have always thought that Eirian Williams is an incompetent chump. Completely agree with Mark Williams.

@TheRocketExpress Maybe it's time for World Snooker to invest in high speed cameras? Or at least for Selby's matches...

cant believe a pro snooker player would lie to win in this day and age. If true this is shocking...

Probability:
33,3% hit pink(foul)
33,3% hit red (no foul)
33,3% hit simultaneous (foul)
66,6% pink or simultaneous.
Conclusion: It's foul.
robertofr13 5 months ago
@robertofr13 probability doesn't work like that, there are 3 possibilities doesn't mean they would have equal chance of hitting

If I was Mark Williams I would just say "no foul". That's too close to call and the sporting thing would be not to accept a foul and a miss.
ninman58 5 months ago
@ninman58
firstly, you are not mark williams. secondly, mark williams was adamant that the white hit the pink first.
TheRocketExpress 5 months ago
@TheRocketExpress Yes, because he wanted to win. Stephen Hendry probably wouldn't have taken a foul based on that evidence.
