  • In the style of Bach, what piece(s) is that descending figure found in? Is there a name for it?

  • which piece is that Berlin?

  • Isn't the Wagner bit the Tannhauser overture, not Die Meistersinger? Am I imagining that? Or has someone already pointed it out?

  • His last piece was epic!!!

  • Hahaha! Hahaha! (bis)

    Great!

  • just impossible dislike this! Awesome!

  • Borge is a genius. I think the way he plays classic makes it more accessible to people that do not understand classic music well.

  • 0:17 Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto op. 23

    0:52 Chopin's Military Polonaise op. 40 no. 1

    1:35 Brahms's Waltz op.39 no.15

2:35 Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2

4:50 Wagner's Die Meistersinger (plus a lot of improvisation)

    6:40 Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 1st movement op.27 no. 2

    8:53 Struass Blue Danube Waltz

10:04 Khachaturian's Sabre Dance from the ballate Gayane

  • @The55555SSSSS I'm pretty sure Wagner's was Tannhaeuser...

  • @Nicholasr1996

haha you are right! why did i even type Die Meistersinger?

  • @carlybbb It's kind of adapted from Alexander's Ragtime Band

  • While I like this - and thank you for the editing and the posting of it - it's too bad it's not actual video rather than just the audio.

  • 1 idiot entered in this page of the internet.

  • The last one is Katchaturian (dance of the Bumble Bee)

  • @Betziburli

    no its not...

    it was khatchaturian's sabre dance

bumble bee was written by korsakov

  • Amazing!! nice variation!!

    absolutely marvelous

  • I wonder if you could get sheetmusic of his acts? :D

  • The modern composer is Aram Khachaturian (Sabre Dance).

  • Mozart <3

  • HAHA, I fell off my chair at Borge's description of Wagner's piece!

  • What a loss to the music world when he passed. He began his career as a legitimate concert pianist in Denmark. I wish I could have heard him play a "serious" concert or recital. I wonder if there are any recordings from those early years? All I can seem to find are his many comic routines.

  • haha, the Brahms is really funnny hha :D this guy is hilarious!

  • OMG STRAUS HILARIOUS

  • LOL 3:30 to 3:50 lol

  • Hahahaha the Bach one, amazing!

  • I want friends that find this funny as well.

  • The final composer is Khachaturian

Thank you for posting ---brilliantly amusing!

  • en que musica esta influenciada la parte de bach?????? no reconosco la musica y la musica de mozart en que tambien esta influenciada?

  • A perfect blend of comedy and music.

  • I don't blame you for having him as an enigma to you, this is pretty high humor at some points! Borge is a very, very clever man.

  • The name of the last composer is Khachaturian (who composed the Sabre Dance)

    Thanks for the upload! :)

  • Pyotr Tchaikovsky has a couple of thousand views while lady gaga has over 170 million views what a shame.

  • @ahalalsuna That's because people with a more classic sense of humor and music are a dying breed.

  • Schliszt! :D

  • I'M LAUGHING SO MUCH I'M CRYING! i shit you not. fuck, this was brilliant. Borge is my nev fav pianist

  • This has probably been mentioned before but the modern composer is Aram Khachaturian. His segment is based on his well known song "Sabre Dance".

  • Bravissimo ...peccato non avere il video

  • There will never be another Victor Bborge to make us laugh like he did, with no smut or vulgarity in any of his performances . He didnt have to stoop so low as todays genreation of of so called comedians have to do, in order to get a laugh. He was born to bring so much joy and laughter into a sick world we now live in. RIP Victor

  • I completely agree... both he and Anna Russell with her coments on Wagner opera are just a joy to watch and listen to....safe sane humour - a delight and cripplingly funny! :)

  • I had forgotten about Anna Russel. Her comments on the Wagnerian Opera`s are hilarious. Need to listen to egg cerpst ( soryy about the pun ) with Gerrard Hofnung and Peter Ustinov. Both highly entertaining people in their own right

  • stupendo Wagner...e dire che l'ho sentito giusto qualche settimana fa quel pezzo cui fa riferimento...

  • Best Best Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Which on'es the piece by Irving Berlin? Is it the ragtime?

  • LynxMajic, yes the ragtime style is based on Irving Berlin

  • Thanks very much.

  • I wish there was a video...

  • I LOVED that last one.

  • I'll agree on Khatchaturian - Borg quotes from his "Sabre Dance". That clinches it for me.

  • he understood all at 07:22

  • wagner: AAAHHHHHH AAAHHHHOOOO!!! lol this man is the bomb!!

  • This is SO BLOODY funny!

  • oh man.

especially Bach got me here so much. i really can't stop laughing.

this man is SO great. No one can mess with Borge ^^

  • the modern composer means to prokofiev isnt it? XD

  • It sounds more like Shostakovitch :-)

  • "Shostakovitch...................Shosta moment!

  • The modern composer he imitates at the end is Aram Kachaturian.

  • looooooooooooool the best!!!

  • I love the Khachaturian

  • What's the Wagner Opera this is from?

  • Tahnhaüsser.

  • Tannhäuser.

  • Such a shame nobody I know would understand any of this

  • @nestersg

    Why not? It's so obvious.

  • For your information , Borge was a child prodigy and was awarded a full scholarship at the Royal Danish Academy of Music at the age of 9.

  • @nestersg whats not to understand? :S

  • @gemmahanson

They don'tknow any of the music or composers. They think Talyor Swift is good.

  • @nestersg Victor Borge was a GENIUS!!!! He played with exuberant technique and was able to make fun with any kind of music. He was FANTASTIC! One of the best virtuoso ever...

  • @nestersg Oh yes, I understad very well, I studied piano for 16 years and I think this is so GREAT!!! WOW!!1

  • genius genius genius, and so unpretentious! good on him!

  • Awesome! I grew up with VCR's of Victor Borge's performances. Thanks so much!

  • brahms backwords, SMHARB! LOL SO FUNNY!

  • Thanks for uploading!

The "modern composer" is Aram Khachaturian. The piece Borge uses in this variation is "Sabre Dance" (from the ballet "Gayane").

  • OMG 2:27 hilarious

  • yes . More than the fact you said it was hilarious, i couldn't help laughing when i heard this fucking chord .

  • I agree, Borge is very creative and intelligent, much more than a simple comic. The Beethoven one was especially skillful, in my opinion. But all of them are funny.

I found Dick's Tannhauser variation particularly funny.

  • I'm laughing so hard I'm crying...

  • HAHAHAH!!!! Goodness, do you have more by this man? He is HILARIOUS and brilliant!!! HAHAHHAHA!!

  • i've heard Borge play when I was very little, as a piano player I believe his outlook towards his "bit" so to speak was to expose people to the true classics and masterpieces. He uses his witful mind to make it more enjoyable. I will always enjoy his playing because he was so wonderfully trained that as a pianist, he was wonderful.

  • thats so cool. the man isperfect he can play anything its the master, i want have them hands;)

  • The last composer is Khachaturian.

  • kudos to LindoroRossini for uploading this!

  • Your title is wrong! Victor Borge said "Johann Sibelius Bach"

    ;-))

  • Victor Borge him self use to say "if peaple don't take musik serius I'm a comidien, if peaple don't take comidy serius I'm a musiker, and if peaple don't take ennything serius I'm a clown

  • Mr Borge wasn't just a clown- though light hearted he was equally as talented a pianist as he was a comedian. though you can hear it when he's goofing around, it really comes through on the somewhat rarer occasions when he sits down and plays a piece seriously.

  • You did an excellent job of editing, and keeping the best. I've heard the whole routine, and you trimmed it to the cream. Thanks!

  • Love Tannhauser 4:39

  • huahuahuaha this is soo funnyy

  • The last composer is Khachaturian

  • Yes it is genius! Im laughing so hard over here. Thanks to Franz, for sending me, and thanks to the video owner for sharing.

  • I typed in Brahms and got this. It's really funny. He should have done Stravinsky.

  • yes...the bach one was so funny...the dig at his repetitiveness....

  • hahha!!!!

  • Love the end! Really funny

  • hahaha awesome

the modern one is Aram Khachaturian

  • Really enjoyable!

  • hahahaha great way to crack up a music student :D

  • Good find--will send URL to friends on the appropriate days!

  • Oh my, he was a genius!

  • Could you list the pieces which he uses as bases for the variations?

  • Check out Hoffnung's "Concerto Populaire" if you're not familiar with it.
