A fine tribute - when I think of the cohesive group sound of the Buckaroos and the vocal harmonies between Don and Buck, I have to think that this is even a tighter group identity than Merle and his Strangers, or Possum and his Jones Boys, all great country musicians notwithstanding....
I don't believe the Buck Owens & Buckaroos with Don Rich as the front man can ever be beat as a band. They had it all together, especially when they had the TV show with Tom Brumley, Doyle Holly, & Willie. I miss them so much!
it is so sad when such GOD given talent is lost at such an early age such as Don,hank, ect. ect. im so happy they were able to record so many songs for us to enjoy in the short time we had them with us. this is a fine tribuit to Don im so glad i found it thanks for the post
@heywoodjosh ..oh good news as MS is a pretty wicked tele player in his own rights. After listening to Don's guitar break on the first song you can really tell where all the other tele players in Nashville get their licks from. Don was a super string bender type of guy which back in the 60's was quite impressive. Only James Burton was in the same league. R.I.P. Don Rich you are really missed
@heywoodjosh ...I forgot in my earlier note that Marty also received the tele from Clarence White the one he seems to use quite frequently on TV. Guess one may assume he's a tele guy!
The original Buckeroos were simply awesome. Don, Doyle, Willie , Tom all superb musicians in thier own right and with leader Buck they couldn't be matched as a country band even 40 years later.
I really DO think that Don could've been big on his own,and Buck knew that. What a great relationship that lasted for years, and when Don passed, you could just tell that Buck was never the same!
couldnt ahve said it better myself to everything you said. yeh, u can tell in clips on here post-Don that Buck just wasnt into it. amen and RIP Don and Buck.
Amen to the 'best side-man' comment. Don coulda been a star in own right if he wanted to be. He was just happy to lead the Buckaroos and stay out of the limelight. 99% of today's country stars don't have a fraction of his talent.
That's one of the best comments I've seen on YouTube. I'm only 26 and I only discovered Don Rich and Buck Owens a couple of months ago, but they have so many fans that love them so much and I think that says a lot about the type of men they were. In a society where selfishness and greed seem to be rewarded everyday, it's so good to hear about two friends who just loved playing music. I wish I could've seen them play live.
Well, I, for one, am pleased that you can appreciate the genius and supreme talent that Don was. He's certainly one of my all-time guitar heroes. Buck was never the same after Don passed on...as we all know.
Thanks...I grew up like many that have posted here watching Buck and Don up until Don's death in 1974. Don really came into his own while backing up Buck. But the things that really amazed me about the Buckaroos and Don is how great they sounded live!! I mean, Don's harmonies; the band being so tight, and the live sound they had were incredible!!
I'll never get tired of listening to it...especially with the crap being play on "Country Radio" today. It's not even close.
I agree, though I'd have to put Luther Perkins somewhere in that category as well. They were more than just sideman. Still, I feel fortunate to have seen and heard both Don and Luther perform "live" more than just a few times and their fans miss them both very much. When those guys played just one note on a record you knew exactly it was and whose voice was coming. True music legends that are still remembered and appreciated after all these years.
