  • @NewMundane Why, dude... why...

  • may sound like Joy Division, does not mean it doesn't sound good though, and if music is good that's all it needs to be.

  • I listen to crytsal stilts because of that reverb, July division does not have reverb and does not give off psychedelic feel

  • everybody seems to be comparing everything since Interpol to joy division, forgetting that joy division themselves borrowed heavily from likes of velvet underground to david bowie and other proto-punk acts.

  • @chickenyogurt I listen to Joy Division every day last 2 years and ... no!,it doesn't sound like them.

I mean really do you think that the vocal sounds like Ian?In the begginning I thought it sound really like Morrissey and that the song has that poignant melancholy of Smiths' songs. After a month of maniacal listening to Crystal Stilts I don't care how does it sound anymore.

  • Damn good

  • WHAT OF ARE JOY DIVISION

    ?

  • I play air drums to this.

  • Sounds like Il Divo

  • Yeh, fuck sake, stop searching for joy division. Just because it features the bass guitar!

  • @invictorium nah, the chords played by the guitar is also used in a Joy Division song, I'm quite sure.

  • @mathiasa94 what song, im not a cystal stilts fan boy or anything, but i just think people search too much for joy division and other obvious influences in music

  • Trippy.

  • perfect song for the beach

  • sounds like Jim Morrison!!

  • Isn't it called Departure ? And this version is a lot better from the one i've heard on the album

  • @DandyWalking Yeah, it is. And it is better this way...I like that it's softer and quieter.

  • Personally I love love joy division but its over, gone, been gone for 30 years they've pioneered it now it is time to re-create it. its very difficult to be original these days.

  • People hear Joy Division Everywhere.

  • @Widleykidz

    We does, we does.

  • God I love this sound

  • Yeah but thats ok

  • I so love this song! Thanks for uploading!

  • i absolutely luv these guys!!! i randomly stumbled on them as backround music to my fave girl edie sedgwicks screentest! i had never heard of em, but am so happy i did! r they pretty undergound, like only doin shows on the east coast??? obviously they're signed?!?

  • @eekj22 I found them the same way! I was mesmerised by that video! :)

  • departure is converging in the quiet. he sings converging in the quiet at the beginning of the song on the other video on here. someone titled it wrong. he does sound like ian curtis. i guess you could call it imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. they sound like they're influenced by a bunch of other bands.

  • This has the same melody line as the song for a youtube video by Crystal Stilts called "Departure." Are they one and the same?

  • @paulipavilion Yeah, Converging in the Quiet is a demo, Departure is the polished re-work of this song. I prefer this one, honestly.

  • @BUDGETFREE

thanks. the video with depature -- the may '68 riots in paris -- is terrific.

  • The Cure are and always have been whining geezers.

  • stop comparing every band to Joy Division

  • Great song.

  • great song!

  • Reminds me so much of Joy Division....great stuff

  • bass sounds like joy division but tht echo reminds me of brian jonestown massacre. those are my favs what makes great combination and what makes me love crystal stilts :))

  • great

  • ughhh i love this

  • THE REENCARNATION OF JOY DIVISION

  • People who are saying this sounds like Joy Divison are grappling at straws here. Yes, ok, there is a definite post punk influence, but JD weren't the first, just because they were the most prolific of the movement doesn't make them the be all-end all. There's post punk influence, yes, even hints of surf rock in here stylistically, and I'd place this more into the late sixties, early seventies than pure 1979 JOY DIVISION. Hell, Velvet Underground is a better match than Joy Division ffs.

  • @BUDGETFREE i agree. the crystal stilts have taken all their influences and created something unique.

  • The singer is Brad Hargett, not Liam Shmurtis....did you mean Iam Curtis righ?? Singer of joy division

  • He's making fun of the vocal style which is similar to Curtis'. D:

... AND WHAT? doesn't make them any less good. + they aren't total copycats. a couple of their songs use interesting styles which really contrast with Hargett's voice.

  • @peachpopsiclemelts True. There are worse things to emulate than Ian Curtis. Also, Im not making fun, I do like the song

  • It sounds some what similar to JD, but not a whole lot.

  • @SmellsLikeReason yeah, and i think thats more down to the bassline as opposed the the vocals

but, like you say, it's not much like joy division

  • This band is great. I think the singer's name is Liam Shmurtis

  • I cannot be the only one who heard Joy Division in there

  • haha joy division is every where lately check out my video from "the Grand Marquee" you may like it really...songs called "perfect"

  • @joydivisionthecure yer a cocksucker and yer band is ghey

  • @andygarcia69 coming from a guy named andy garcia shouldnt you be in front of home depot waiting for a day labor truck to pick you and your mexican family up for work ? how do you know what the eennntteerneht is? unless your naming your self after that shitty director then u still suck piss hole....

  • @joydivisionthecure

Coming from a guy named JoyDivisionTheCure, shouldn't you be hanging yourself in your kitchen?

    Boom roasted.

  • @LivesUnderABridge thanks for spelling my name with caps....shows respect....but why the kitchen?

  • @joydivisionthecure

    /facepalm

Ian Curtis hanged himself in his kitchen.

  • @LivesUnderABridge thanks ill keep that in mind ive been looking for some sturdy structures...peace

  • @andygarcia69 the cure is kind of gay but joy division by no means is gay

  • @neonHEARTSbitches your gay, now just listin to the song

  • @JackM2409 thats just my opinion motherfucker no need to get yur tat in a tizzy geez

  • thats quite a lazy observation to make.

  • @chickenyogurt

    Secret: it's because it's derivative.

  • love it

  • Great, wonderful amazing soundscapes and a sense of yearning. thank you

  • this is perfect

  • fuck you :D

  • it's not worse than JD,; it's different. I do prefer JD but this is a great tune!

  • Loving this.

  • I think this version is better than 'Departure'.

  • classic

  • Perfection

  • Still Haunting..

  • sounds a lot like joy division

  • omg you have said what i wanted to say since long, the etherial sound is like JD and the echoing music too.but jd was the best as it invented that sound.

  • @reddeadlys ORLY

  • Just too good for proper words

    -j of dkjs

  • i saw them this saturday in Barcelona

    loved it!

  • i like the changes they'd made to become this one in Departure; in LP's cut it sounds like a coctel of The smiths, joy division and other bands like echo &... or winter hours...there are another actual bands that has made a sound whith common lines to Crystal Stilts, like The organ or Interpol, whose has learned too of that 80's magical pospunk sound & style...great tune, i love it melancholy

  • my new favourite band

  • They have a really good sound, this track is from the album alight of night?

  • its such a simple song aswell, basically the same riff the whole song but so effective! id love to see them live

  • VU on drums, Ian McChulloc´s vocals and the rest is Jesus & Mary Chain....

  • My son steven (vgan) just saw them live in Austin at SXSW and said their live performance was one of the best. along with Monotonix and Echo and the Bunnymen. I have had this in favs for awhile now and really never get tired of it!

  • i bet they do great covers of the Velvet Underground and Joy Division. intro sounds exactly like Young Marble Giants.

  • Interesting what people are hearing in this. I'd defo say late sixties US psychedelia. It's very velvet underground.

  • Comment removed

  • Definitely not unlike the Paisley Underground of Late 80's Los Angeles -Rain Parade etc.- who were influenced by V.U. and 60's stuff but had more "echo" and "punk" in them (driving beats) via Joy Division and Young Marble Giants. Like this band.

  • this is like the best shit to come out in a long time

  • yeap liking this, first heard em at bardens boudoir ,dj played a track, now they're playing there live tonight, sonic boom from spacemen 3 is doing a spectrum gig elsewhere,,hhmmnn, think crystals are winning at the moment..

  • Disorder, Incubation and Ceremony with a hint of Transmission; a Closer finish and a Johnny Marr guitar rhythm, but this song is it's own. The more I listen to it the less I hear Joy Division and the more I hear Crystal Stilts.

  • definate touch of the Cure (Pornography and Faith era). but it is definately more New Order (movement era) than Joy Division. the post-punk revival is on us...

  • luv it man ! it's just too good !

  • absolutely amazingg

  • Anyone who suffers from sleep paralysis would fear the artwork.

  • Very Joy Division-esque but nonetheless still brilliant

  • Great song. WHPK in Chicago plays it regularly.

  • Great song, thanks for uploading this. Alight of the Night is one of the best albums of 2008 and that's saying a lot considering how many good albums came out this year.

  • joy division meets morrissey

  • yeah bit of echo and the bunny men on that.

  • Correct, very Bunnymen-esque!

  • I agree this is a nice song, but i can't undestand why you compare them with Orange Juice! JAMC, Joy Division, The Velvet Underground... yes, but Orange Juice?

  • Blissful melody.

  • Great song, saw them at the bell house in Brooklyn a couple of weeks ago, although they didn't play it that night.

This is from their EP, for the album version, they changed the title of this song to "Departure".

  • is this available to buy in the UK do you know? much love

  • Hi. I do know that 'Departure' is out on 7" either now or in the next week or 2.

  • great tune.

  • Great, great song.Could have also happened in the early 80`s,sth. between the comsat angels and joy division.

  • precicely, and it's one of the first modern bands to have done the dark, post-punk ambience justice.

  • Yeah totally, sick of these commercial bands... same sound different names. I just hope Crystal Stilts get a big fanbase, they deserve it!

  • My favorite song from this album.

  • great band, don't know why vivian girls are getting more attention

  • Because they are girls? This will probably change when the Stilts have their album out the 28th of October. I like some of the stuff by the Vivian Girls but they could have made the record a bit more listenable

  • wat a nice song

  • absolutely yes yes yes

  • amazing song
