Got a chance to look at the Sonata today in person.
2 major problems.
1) Hyundai needs to fix the MASSIVE panel gap between the bonnet & grill. It looks like the bonnet is not closed properly.
2) Styling found inside TRIES to give a feeling of a Near Luxury car, BUT fails bcus materials inside& tactile feel of the switches are no different from what is found in an i30 or elantra.
Conclusion: Don't think you'll be getting a car that encroaches on the Azera territory. It's only the design that is a little bit more fresher than before. Other than that it is just a humble midsize car.
Massive gap??...I dont see it, dude. The silver frame above the grill (part of engine hood) is actually to match with the grill design, otherwise, front end might look weird.
And about the interior materials, NO BODY HAS SAID IT WAS MADE TO BE COMPARED WITH LEXUS...it is just a regular midsize car to be compare with models in its segment, like Accord, Camry, Mazda6 or Altima, Good refinement, but no premium luxury.
Yes, you are right. Nobody said it was to be compared to Lexus...but it is better than mine in terms of interior (I own 2008 GS350) because its more logically laid out, and has better visibility of front because of lower cowling layout. Lexus' problem is that its quite fabulous but its simply too clustered and has poor visibility at rear due to thick rear-stretch...but in terms of luxuriness, Hyundai is on par with Lexus. Just look at Veracruz vs. RX-330.

I think you got a misconception of this car.
