Our culture should stigmatize mediocrity. Mediocrities didn't split the atom, invent the transistor, or land on the Moon. If we're to be the world's preeminent nation, we should build a culture predicated on a cult of excellence.
Should failure be attenuated? Should success be limited? Some admire malcontents: Marx, Gandhi, Fidel Castro, Martin Luther King, Jr., Cesar Chavez, Obama et al. I admire those who edified civilization: Augustine of Hippo, Charlemagne, Bernard de Clairvaux, Thomas Aquinas, Lorenzo de' Medici, John Henry Newman et al. Nations mired in subsistence economies, that fail to rise above abject materialism, are civilizational nonentities. They'll never produce a Dante Alighieri, Michelangelo, or Mozart.
Fox news dudes, there's a country where the government doesn't give a crap about the poor. It's Russia. Only the most self-interested people succeed there, it's the perfect capitalist country!
"Going galt" as malkin said, is THE most stupid thing this moron has EVER blathered over.
Being self employed, I work HARD regardless of the tax.
Why?
Because no matter the tax, I'll ALWAYS take home the lion's share of my income. Should I earn over $250K this year (in 2008, I took home $204k), I will only pay 3% on the dollars OVER that figure. The tax is NOT retroactive.
These people are trying to LIE-up a controversy, where nothing really exists.
I DID make $250K a few years back. I paid $85K in Federal Taxes. Then I paid State Taxes. Then I paid Local Taxes. Then I paid Sales Taxes with every purchase (on money which was ALREADY taxed....that's right we are DOUBLE TAXED whenever we pay sales tax) . Wise UP! We are already paying between 60% and 70% of our income in taxes!!!!
Do you really have a job? Do you check your paystubs? I forgot to mention above that we also pay Social Security and Medicare taxes....You really don't know what you're talking about OR you are lying....or a bit of both.
Who starts a business? I don't see employees getting around and starting them. Employers do and they create jobs for other people while they pursue wealth.
Yes, but they took the risk and started the company. There had to be a position and an opportunity, all funded by an evil "rich guy" for the worker to even have that opportunity. I know - tough to get a handle on.
No, Michele Malkin is either A: Brain dead(The base of the GOP.) Or. B, (and more likely since every major republicans seems to be) a rich, greedy fuck who dosen't care about innocent people so long as she gets more money.
Id guess, Obama's thugs, pimps, whores, and stupid college kids will step up and work hard. This group will spend and help us all grow. LOL not. Obama's "peeps" are lazy, dumb, and can only stand around waiting for a handout. Come on Obama fans save this sinking ship!
UMMMM Nope It was a small group of politicians who made sure home loans went too people who dont have money. (and still do it today) The hole in the ship are the people in this nation who have no clue on how to make a life, so they elect a man who seems like themselves and "hope" for a handout. The handout is like throwing money in a black hole, because fools will use money today as they did yesterday.
What I find interesting in all of Fox News' typical liberal-bashing hysteria is prior to the Bush tax cuts I don't recall a general strike by the rich and affluent in America. This is simply Fox News, an extension of right-wing talk radio, trying to work up their drooling fans into a frenzy.
Let's hear what the Republican Abraham Lincoln had to say on the subject:
"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."
The GOP is now the party of unabashed greed. They play their base just like the Vegas casinos do. Many hope to hit the jackpot, but most never will. Instead, they get robbed blind.
That's nothing. Teddy Roosevelt went even further, although I'd be surprised if you didn't know that. Unfortunately, most dittoheads don't. Ironic, isn't it, that the 2 greatest Republicans actually left their party: Lincoln to the Natiional Union Party and Roosevelt to the Bull Moose Party.
Dittoheads are just so incredibly historically impaired. They represent the worst humanity has to offer and that's putting it nicely.
Very great words friend! I'm going to Lousiana on monday to visit family. It's my first trip ever to a red state or the Bible belt. I'm very liberal, and open minded. I just hope Bobby Jindal dosen't come up with something as stupid as his speech while im there.
If there was any republican who could possibly turn the country around it was John McCain. His campaign was poorly waged, and as you pointed out earlier, we simply couldn't afford the possibility of a Palin presidency.
Sounds like Malkin needs to add Joe The Plumber to her spam filter. The $250K marginal rate threshold applies to personal income, not business income. Any small business owner that is making that much and hasn't incorporated needs new tax and legal advisers.
Republican tax policy has sucked $600B/year ave out of the middle class for the past 29 years. It's not hard to figure out who doesn't want the Republicans' economic assault on the middle class to end.
Yeah, "producers"..? Somebody's been re-reading their 9th grade Atlas Shrugged" Book report. - I guess Religious/Rand rhetoric is what passes for political commentary on Fox.
"wealth producers" what an offensive phrase most people are employed by small business' not large rich corps. And anicdotal evidence obviously means no evidence
Rather then paying between 30-35% of their income like us little folk, The richest 500 people in America have only been paying 15-20%. Now there are people in charge who want to level the even off the tax raits.
Why do Republicans want to shit on the average worker so bad.

Damn, I want to punch that bitch in the nose. Rich people do not produce wealth. Their employees generate wealth for them.

That is a red herring. That act has nothing to do with the crisis. It's because of Phil Graham's ideas being implemented.
