this is of course...wonderful - thank you for doing this - I was lucky enough to be there - thanks again Bob! - a heart tugger this one - words & music - arguably my favorite kinks song - this version... I'm not sure - interesting, but a bit precious - I agree with the poetic commenter above that Ray has a Dickensian feel for the "River" - I can feel myself bobbing in the water on the original 1965 version - this song spawned both "too much on my mind" & "waterloo sunset" - thanks ray -

Only RD gets the bloody atmosphere. You must go there to get the vibe, especially at sunset. London`s glorious power: you can never describe, or say it. Everyone`s welcome. The river. We will see our friends in far off places. The Thames, seen through distant eyes....even better than it was.

I had friends in south London. Great days, never glorious. I spoke to a beautiful girl in the West. North of the river. Two nice years. Then, it ends. Life. In London, everyone is a friendly stranger.

This was better than I thought it would be. No one knows how hard it is to pull off "a capella" music. The arrangement is pretty good, and for Ray's age to be able to sing consistantly in tune unaccompanied with the younger whipper snappers is a pretty good feat! My hat is always off to you, Ray. Sorry I wasn't singing in that choir with your guys.
