When I was in the southern part of the country, I felt like the only black person. I was ok with this, I am used to all people. My friends I was visiting is Korean, and I stayed with her family... who didnt speak english! In seoul there was lots of people from everywhere. I noticed Africans, Russians, and Philipinos. Very diverse. I love this country, and after staying a month, I want to go back to teach.
This is a great vid. I am latino and and majored as an English teacher and have worked in the publishing industry for several years but have found that I have lost my passion for this profession and am at a point where I wish to make a difference in either an adult's or child's life. This video has defintely inspired me to take that chance.
for ruzzaruzza and shaki57 it is called cultural shock and you will experence it in countries that do not have much of black people, whites or even asian until when you see someone from your race or even country whether they are black or white you feel good cause you shared alot, but it is still good to meet different race so maybe you would not feel that way again.

You didn't touch on a important topic. How did race play a role in getting the job? I'm Black and I have a degree and one school was stright up with me to tell me they didn't want to hire me because I'm Black. They liked everything I had to say, my resume and everything but because I was Black they didnot want to hire me. I'm looking for a school where this willnot be an issue. I hope I get a chance to teach in Korea like this brotha in the video.
If you know they didnt hire you based on race, you shouldve contacted human resource or employment standards department to file a complaint and sue the company.
Don't apply at hagwons, a majority of them don't hire people of darker skin, you want to try and work at a big company and i have heard hagwons are horrible places to work at.
also the person who is asking the questions seems to be Korean, so they possibly could of hired him to prove they are not a racist or ignorant company (But I could just be talking out my a**)
That's cool. You sounds just like me. I never wanted to teach but my mother and father got me into it. I also wanted to do Journalism. I majored in English with a concentrartion in Creative Writing. Good job Reggie. I hope you enjoy your time in Korea. I plan to teach in Korea as well. It's good to see another black teacher in Korea. I know there are others, though they are in the minority.
I come from the Czech Republic. So the race is not really an issue here since everybody is white. I was just wondering. You are saying "It's good to see another balck teacher in Korea". Is it that you guys stick together because of your ethnicity? I mean I can imagine myself hanging out with other Czech peole if I were abroad, since we have a common language.
Mmm. For me I can't speak for other black people but basically because seeing someone in your ethnicity in a country where there is hardly any one of your ethnicity makes u feel a little better. kinda like you said you would talk to other Czech people because of common language. it's just seeing another person that you have something in comon with. of course i would talk to other people who are nice to me as well, its just nice to see someone of a similar background.

They actually allow you niggers in Korea? I though they would keep their children away from you feral beasts.

Thank you so much for posting this video. It really helped me as an African-American male trying to go teach in South Korea.

You're too funny. It doesn't work like that in Korea; at least not in this case.

Are you a male or female? Have you been placed yet? That's unfortunate, I've seen some Blacks get jobs in Korea.
