This strike would have been ended the day after it started if the Writers had simply just let me know the addresses of the Studio Executives that refused to make reasonable offers. No one takes away The Daily Show, Colbert Report and Jimmy Kimmel Live, ruin the rest of series Television and doesn't get their ass beat. Even though the strike looks to be over I still would like some addresses. These bastards are going to pay for me missing out of new Losts, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break, ....

Mr. Ben Stiller is a bit of a hypocrite. I am a striking writer and have personally seen him drive right through our picket line TWICE. He smiled and offered a sheepish little wave as he continued to drive onto the Warner Brothers lot, presumably to make another terrible movie. Shame, shame Mr. Stiller.
Um, feature film writers are on strike, as well. The WGA covers both tv and film writers. And I saw him cross again last week, so he he's a triple hypocrite. He has a nice Mercedes, though. Black. Like his heart.

Evilpanda, as I said moron, when they signed the contract they knew what they were getting paid. So basically your saying they are making themselves suffer by asking for to little in the beginning. They do not deserve any profits whether its internet or dvd sales because they are not willing to take any losses like the producers do. So do you have any education!! Obviously not. I like the morons who support this shit and say writers deseve profits. They get paid and a lot too. Also they agree in the beginning what their pay scale will be, so all of you supporters SHUT THE FUCK UP. Also all the writers should either produce their own stuff or fuck off. The one who is willing to take the loss is the one who deserves the profits, bottom line.
regardless of what happens, my hope is that the people who write for mtv (and others) receive some waterboarding experience prior to resuming their writing duties. this form of soul cleansing is needed.

writers get paid NOTHING compared to producers and actors, and they were the ones who created everything. they wrote the freaking show or movie or anything else.
writers pay for their own everything. they have to pay to get a producer to even read their scripts, they spend hours, weeks, years, etc., writing stuff while producers sell their ideas over the internet.

I'm not giving producers a break here by no means. But I refuse to side with the writers, especially when they knowingly put out crap to appease producers.
I think it would be important to note that most likely, the studios are employing people to post negative comments on videos, articles, and pro-WGA sites such as these, in an effort to present an opposing point of view, and propagate the false notion that people are altogether divided in their support of the strike. Just something to remember.
The WGA is leading greedy writers down the road followed by steel, textile, airline, and automobile union workers. When you fight to bring down the industry that provides your job, you are destined to lose by winning. Notice how the writers take advantage of the free internet sites like YouTube to voice the supposed injustice of not being paid for videos played on YouTube. Producers please do not give into these fools.
You're kidding, right? (A) They are not "fighting to bring down the industry," but simply fighting for fair pay for work. (B) The YouTube comment is a non sequitur. No one is making profit from these protest videos except maybe YouTube. The writers are asking for a percentage of profits made from their work. How is that "greedy"?
well i hope pple go out and seek other forms of entertainment, like; going to live events and getting away from the pc and tv. Family's are becoming strangers with a t.v. in each room. I know u need writers for plays and so on, but it's better than living a boring predictable life in front of the t.v.
This day and age people are more into television and movies more than ever, so the writers must be doing something right. The bottom line is if they're were'nt any actors to play the stereo-typical roles, and writers to be brave enough to use the lines, comedy especially would not be the same. Hitler has a very narrow spectrum of what he considered good art. He liked classical art, but hated modern art. He stubbed all the world trends in art at the time such as expressionism, surrealism, cubism, impressionism, and modernism, branding it 'degenerative art' and portrayed these art movements in a very negative light and against what the ideals of what the national socialists stood for.
These writers make so much money, and say the shows would never be without them. The shows would also never be without the sound and lighting crew, and most importantly without the ACTORS! And I don't like the fact that producers make such huge amounts of money, but they do take all the financial risks, and in the world of TV, it's very hard for a show to succeed and achieve a prime time slot. So if the writers want more money they should start putting it upfront and be part of the investment.
I take issue with you labeling the people on strike as 'left wing loons'. What exactly is so looney about wanting a adequate wage? These people of exercising their democratic right to strike. It's the only way they can effectively bring about change.

Some of us just like to be entertained. It helps us get through the day. It helps us forget that we have a sick family member for just a couple hours. It helps us feel a little less lonely. It helps us better cope with the real world, which is oftentimes mundane, sad, or even downright scary. And the people who create that entertainment, whether it's something you like or something another human being likes, deserves to be compensated fairly for it if people are consuming it.

There's a lot of crap out there, but in general I don't think TV has ever been better than it is right now. Art is important to our culture and our society -- it always has been and it hopefully always will be. Without writing, we'd be an illiterate society. Who wants to learn to read via a science textbook or a phone book? We'd also, sadly, be an uncreative society.
If you have a union job, you have a right to strike for more pay... whether you're a nurse, a teacher, a factory worker, or a writer. Even if you think it's crap work they're doing, if people want to watch what they're creating, they have a right to some of the profits made by these huge corporations. Just because you hate a sofa, does that mean that the person who made that sofa doesn't deserve to be paid when someone who LIKES the sofa buys it?

i understand that you are a student, a mother, and has a husband in Iraq. There is a certain thing called "Job Etiquette." And if the customers/patients/whatever feel they are being disrespected, then the provider will lose his/her customers/patients/etc. Again the consumers decide in that situation if they will stand for it. Businesses are allowed to decide what they will tolerate, and that is based on customer satisfaction.
How much is the average writer making a year? It can not be $5,000.00 like someone said in the video. I'd like someone to really find out how much they make and then we can dump on them b/c I have a feeling that they're making pretty good coin....

The writers should get a decent cut from what they write. Just like a composer of a song gets a cut(excluding pirating) each time it's played, a writer for the idiot box should get a cut.
I find it a little bit hard to sympathize when I see them getting this involved to be honest. How many other times have you seen this level of participation in something that affects anything other than their paychecks? I am all for them getting what they deserve but I would like to see them care this much about things that actually matter. I hope they strike forever..lol...people watch too much tv anyways.

Writing is hard. Writers should get paid a lot more than they do right now. If we had no writers, there would be no actors, no movies, no tv, no entertainment. And writing is not just a hobby, it is a career. Even if the movie makes a lot of money, what do the writers get? NOTHING. Give them what they deserve!!!

That's not what I'm saying. Writers make movies for some people and movies for everyone. If adults see the same thing kids do, they will get bored out of their minds. That's why writers want to make movies for adults too. Why should kids get the only good entertainment? What I am trying to say is that the parents are the ones who decide what their children watch. Great, so if I'm not successful right away, I just spent thousands of dollars going to college for a hobby. Just what I wanted! If writers were to write everything safe and nothing controversial, there would be no one to view or read the work. Writing as a hobby is fine, screen writing for a hobby is fine as long as you don't want to get any further than youtube. Screen writing is meant to be viewed, however. And there are parental advisories for a reason. Look into that.
If you notice. The movies that are for the whole family do better. Disney I don't know if you heard of them can be viewed by the WHOLE FAMILY!! I think I am not sure. DISNEY makes alot of money$ Maybe you should check that company and take notes.

This strike would have been ended the day after it started if the Writers had simply just let me know the addresses of the Studio Executives that refused to make reasonable offers. No one takes away The Daily Show, Colbert Report and Jimmy Kimmel Live, ruin the rest of series Television and doesn't get their ass beat. This day and age people are more into television and movies more than ever, so the writers must be doing something right. The bottom line is if they're were'nt any actors to play the stereo-typical roles, and writers to be brave enough to use the lines, comedy especially would not be the same. Theres a stereo type for every single person and i like the idea of teaching our kids to laugh about the things that are ridiculous, so as not to take it to heart. GO WRITERS!!!

These writers make so much money, and say the shows would never be without them. The shows would also never be without the sound and lighting crew, and most importantly without the ACTORS! And I don't like the fact that producers make such huge amounts of money, but they do take all the financial risks, and in the world of TV, it's very hard for a show to succeed and achieve a prime time slot. So if the writers want more money they should start putting it upfront and be part of the investment.

But I am upset at all the attention they are getting on the media, you have to agree that on most news channels the top news story has something to do with "hollywood", I just we could watch news that matters. Not sit through 10 min. of crap just to watch 2 min. of whats actually going on in the world.

There is a certain thing called "Job Etiquette." And if the customers/patients/whatever feel they are being disrespected, then the provider will lose his/her customers/patients/etc. Again the consumers decide in that situation if they will stand for it. Businesses are allowed to decide what they will tolerate, and that is based on customer satisfaction.

I find it a little bit hard to sympathize when I see them getting this involved to be honest. How many other times have you seen this level of participation in something that affects anything other than their paychecks? I am all for them getting what they deserve but I would like to see them care this much about things that actually matter. I hope they strike forever..lol...people watch too much tv anyways.

Writing is hard. Writers should get paid a lot more than they do right now. If we had no writers, there would be no actors, no movies, no tv, no entertainment. And writing is not just a hobby, it is a career. Even if the movie makes a lot of money, what do the writers get? NOTHING. Give them what they deserve!!!

How is this the actors fault? So what if the writers wrote that into Transformers? That was ONE line. They can write whatever they want but they should get a decent amount for writing an entire movie.

If we want to protect the younger generation, then don't let them see the movie. The parents should be in charge of that. It's their problem, not the writers.
People go to college and take classes because it is their dream and passion to become a writer. They love writing and I doubt they want to give their dream and years of studying up. All they're asking is something for the work they make for millions of people.

That's not what I'm saying. Writers make movies for some people and movies for everyone. If adults see the same thing kids do, they will get bored out of their minds. That's why writers want to make movies for adults too. Why should kids get the only good entertainment? What I am trying to say is that the parents are the ones who decide what their children watch. Not the writers. If they want them to watch adult movies, fine. Whatever. But it's not the writers' problem.

Great, so if I'm not successful right away, I just spent thousands of dollars going to college for a hobby. Just what I wanted! If writers were to write everything safe and nothing controversial, there would be no one to view or read the work. Writing as a hobby is fine, screen writing for a hobby is fine as long as you don't want to get any further than youtube. Screen writing is meant to be viewed, however. And there are parental advisories for a reason. Look into that.
