How did the Germans get a naval vessel into the Adriatic? Either it would have had to go thru Gibraltar or the Suez, both controlled by the British or the Dardellenes controlled by the Turks, who were neutral. Or transported over the Alps by rail, but it would have been too big. The writer should have used his head and made the ship be Italian, much more likely.
Up the Rhine to Koblenz, then up the Moselle and connect to the French canal system and then follow the Rhone down to the Med, exiting at close to Marseilles. There were some eboats in the med.
