not saying its bad or anything but dolgopolov has a really strange style compared to everyone else you usually see but it seems to be quite effective to some extent
I remember the moment I knew Federer would take over from Sampras as the dominant player ... will Dolgopolov take over from Federer? Djoko/Nadal have had dominant years/surfaces, but have not been all dominant, Dolgo is looking good. Best I've seen for a long time. He's got the magic.
@hieroglyph321 - Dolgo is wonderfully entertaining because he fears nothing and thinks he can make any shot at any time. Unfortunately, history will tell you that nobody that takes those kinds of chances can rise to even top 5 ranking. I am a HUGE Dolgo fan so naturally I'd like him to learn how to construct points a bit and just tweak his risk taking. He then could have a chance to break top 5.
Dolgopolov is a thrill to watch no doubt. He hits with unbelievable power, he's really quick, he's a great striker. Every shot he hits is a potential winner that's what makes him so tough, but he does have some quirks in his game like his drop volleys and his slices which are not so effective. but he is an extraordinary tennis player and extremely talented definitely the making of a champion.
@sarasmilepiano Meh, it's not a great shot - it just floats, end of. It's not got any sort of effective meaning behind the shot like the other top 3 can put it to a use.
Dolgopolov and Tomic have game that doesn't suit Novak. In the future those two will cause him a lot of problems. A lot of slicing, keeping the ball low, Novak hates that. he loves to play against aggressive players that either give him mid high balls (like Fed for example) or high balls like Nadal. Than he can be devastating. But when guys play like Dog in first set or Tomic at Wimbledon, Novak will struggle. This slow sliced low balls, soft shots, then sudden shot in pace. Not his thing.
@Globox822 Dog and Tom still have to develop more consistency and mature to challenge the big guys seriously. But you're absolutely right about Dog's game style- it gives not only Novak trouble but many others, as well. Sometimes I feel he tries to be too flashy- which is highly entertaining- but hurts him in the important moments. The guy is a tremendous talent, no doubt...
I feel that Dolgolpov could have done alot better if he quit slicing on his backhand so much in this match. He has a great two handed backhand and there were many times where he should not have sliced and just flatten out his backhand and go for a clean winner.
i'd like to see dolgopolov get fitter and a bit more consistent because he plays such an explosive and aggressive game that its spectacular when he is hitting his shots and he does have very fast feet. But to play that style for a long period of time is hard, it is easier to hit those beautiful shots in the 1st set than the 4th set. I hope he can manage consistency without losing his amazing feel in the process.
i'm a fed fan but watching players like nadal and djokovic is a different sort of pleasure. When you watch federer or a guy like dolgopolov the question you ask is "how did he hit that shot?!" and when you watch djokovic and nadal its "how the hell did he GET to that shot?!" its just two extremes of tennis finesse and the physical side (not to suggest nadal or djokovic doesn't have touch or fed doesn't have fitness)
Dolgopolov is such a talented player. Just like Safin, isn't really seeming to live up to his potential. Either way, Safin was a slam winner and no1, and I think Dolgopolov will be the same
@explodingpimp Maybe, but unlikely. Marat was a two-time Slam winner (and four-time finalist). Dog might find Roland Garros success, once Rafa is done, but he most likely will be a guy in the QF's or SF's of slams. I hope I'm wrong, though.
the true sign of djokovic's greatness is that whenever he gets broken he places heaps of pressure on his opponents serve straight away and usally breaks back straight away
The way he hits is damm weird..not trying to be rude here..But it's not like a good looking forehand.. Although, his forehands is a monster and he is very talented..Juz weird-looking forehands, back hands and serve
thats the tennis i likefrom dolgopolov, high risk, many winners (lots of errors :S). not boring at all. no offence, but i don't like the players who win cause of there consistency. of course anyone needs consistency, but if you can win matches with like ten or even twenty winners, thats just boring to me.
@KikasisIluvya you must be federer's fan then? I have the same preference with you. I cant stand nadal's tennis when he is being passive on the court....I found it was really boring. but when he stepped up, it was all good! I left O2 when he was playing Fish...:( This first set is so stunning!!!
@andy316800 jup I'm rogers fan. but there are many other guys i like watching, like gulbis, soderling, nalbandian, safin back in the days. all who take some risk. agree with you on nadal, he ist great when attacking but boring when playing passive. dislike djokovics play as well sometimes, he played a really good season, but his tennis looks boring to me (my opinion). runnig for every ball is impressing the way he does it, but i'm actually falling asleep after a set or two.
@KikasisIluvya agree 100%. i like to watch good players of course, but i also like players that are entertaining. (monfils, dolgopolov, sciavone on the women's side)
@insomniawheesung Not really, he is a top 25 player with enough talent to give anyone some serious trouble. If he gets hot and his opponent is off he has the game to beat anyone. He is his own worst enemy but man is he fun to watch. And still very young, I look forward to seeing what he does in the future when he gets more experience and better shot selection.
Dolgopolov feels like sleepy

I think the point at 2:53, Dolgopolov could have had a chance to take a set off of Djokovic if he had won that specific point.
